Leo stood paralyzed, his feet like blocks of lead as his eyes stayed fixed on the room Amelia was taken into, hoping that she would burst through the door, giggling as she always did. Praying that the doctor made a mistake.

His greatest fear, the cruelest fact, dawned on him when his mother's wailing sounded in his ears, bringing him out of his shock-induced coma.
