53. It's time to talk.

Days breezed past as spring turned to summer, bringing along with it the usual pests, beetles, cicadas, and exams.

Not that it bothered me.

Nope.

What bothered me was the sheer incompetence of the japanese police force.

After I handed them Stain, gift wrapped and on a silver platter, they still failed to contain him.

He escaped police custody literally hours later.

You had one job. One fucking job.

Fuck.

And now here I am, getting an earful for their mistakes.

"...sort of powerplay this is? Yuji-shounen, pay attention when I'm speaking!" Small might shouted.

"Yes, sensei~" I answered, half-heartedly.

Small might sighed in defeat.

"Couldn't you have just ended it neatly? In one punch?" He asked, imitating a punching gesture.

"Sensei, he was inciting a revolution, strengthening the authority of the villains. Not to mention he was part of the league of villains that attacked both USJ and Hosu!

I could see the disaster that would have resulted from his words and ideology!

An army of villains, against less than 6000 heroes!" I explained.

"We won't lose!" Small might assured me.

"Of course we won't lose, sensei. We are strong, well trained and we have the army on our side.

But that's if they meet us in the field.

Grassroots revolutions have a historic tendency for guerilla warfare.

Bombings, assassinations, mass menace.

And we still won't lose. I know as much.

But sensei, have you thought about the toll that would take on those that aren't us.

The common people, who lose their homes and loved ones in the bombings.

The instability brought forth by the assassination of key political figures, that will lend itself to riots and disorder.

Do you know how many people, how many children will die from this?

We will be safe, and we will save them, but we can't everywhere all at once.

And I know that I can't save everyone, sensei, but I refuse to weigh the lives of the many against even a single innocent life.

Especially, if all I have to do is something so small as publicly humiliating a known terrorist." I acted, putting forth a righteous and honorable front.

"Small changes, like ripples in a pool, will turn to waves of destruction, like storms off the wings of butterflies.

I intend to nip such problems in the bud. And if possible, as peacefully as possible.

So many people joined Stain and the league, knowing they would likely spend the rest of their life in prison.

Have you ever thought, sensei, as to why?

Sure, there was the money, but no amount of money is enough to convibce them to go against you, the symbol of peace!

And yet they did come, knowing their fate was sealed.

What pushed them into such desperation if not that their lives are a much worse form of hell they wish to escape from?

That is why I became a hero, sensei, not just to save the innocent but also those who have been pushed into villainy through no fault of their own. Those that can still be saved. I will not abandon any of them!" I finished, letting out a staggered breath.

Small might looked at me through conflicted eyes, gleaming with a hint of admiration.

"...why do you have to be so considerate?" He muttered.

"You chose me because I was considerate." I replied, smiling cheekily, "Don't begin doubting your choices now."

"YujiMart offers no refunds!" I added, crossing my arms in an X form.

A smile formed on his worn lips, and he snorted, breaking character.

"So I take it I'm forgiven?" I asked, hesitantly.

"Just don't do it again." Small might answered, hiding an unwitting smile, "And when you do, tell me first."

"Hai~" I replied, walking out of the counseling room, back to class.

Taking my seat, I was bombarded by questions and praise.

"That was so awesome!" Kaminari praised, excitedly pumping his hands.

"Thanks." I replied, "Couldn't have done it without these two though."

I pointed at Iida and Deku.

"How did you find him?" Came a voice from the back of the class, as Shoto sat up straight.

"I was there. My dad was there too. For him. But you guys caught him first.

So....how did you do it?" He added.

I looked at him, his expression betraying only the slightest bit of humor and curiosity, as the class gave his words right of way, as if they hadn't been wanting to ask theirs first.

Hmmm....pretty boys do be different huh?

Even with his daddy issues and burn scar, just a word could get all of their attention.

I could even see Tsuyu stealing glances at him from time to time.

Someone has a crush~

I shook my head a little, clearing my throat.

"I didn't." I replied, "Iida did. I just followed his trail of breadcrumbs."

Shoto turned to look at Iida, who just shrugged.

"I saw him out of the corner of my eye and ran after him.

But I was wondering about that too. How did you find me, Yuji-san?" Iida asked, flapping his hand at me, curious.

"I am a trained detective. And it's my quirk too." I answered.

"That tells us nothing! Can't you just explain it!?" Kirishima insisted.

I smiled mischievously at him and replied.

"Nope."

Kirishima didn't back down though.

"Come on! I wanna know! It's not like it's some big secret right?"

"I think you know enough of my secrets by now." I replied, shooting him down, as he slumped back into his seat disappointed.

"Aw man." He whined.

"He can see people lives." Deku said, suddenly, as everyone turned to him.

"Matsun's books, they catalogue the lives of everyone he has ever touched, in the form of books.

He calls it Alexandria Eternal."

"Deku!" I protested.

"They are our friends! Your friends! Why won't you trust them?!" He asked, almost shouting.

"This isn't about them, is it?" I asked, as Deku looked away, clutching his arm.

"We'll talk about this, later." I added authoritatively, "So stop sulking like a bitch, Deku. You're a grown ass man. If you wanna say something, just say it. Straight up. Face to face. Don't act like a spurned girlfriend about it."

Deku jolted in place, rage and indignation bubbling in his eyes.

"No. Let's talk now." Deku insisted, tearing up, "Because I know you'll just find a way out of this. You always do."

I looked at him, as I sucked in a cold breath.

Tsss...fuck.

"Fine. You wanna know why I didn't tell you about Stain? Is that what this is about?" I asked, annoyed.

"That's not all you've been hiding. I know you're running operations with the crew. Important missions, stuff that makes a difference. And it hurts Matsun, knowing that you don't trust me enough to help with that." He said, sniffling, his fists balled up, nails digging into his palm.

He turned to the rest of the class, with pleading eyes, before focusing on Kirishima.

"Doesn't it, Kirishima-kun?" He asked.

Kirishima looked away, with a conflicted expression, and nodded at me.

I rubbed my temples, and let out a tired sigh.

If I didn't still need the two of them for one last heist...

No point delving into that now though.

Let's solve this problem first, before the whole class is dragged into it.

"Alright. You wanna be a vigilante that much? Play lotto with your hero career? You got it." I snarled, scanning the room, "But know this. You are not ready. None of you are. Not for what evils that lurk the shadows of society. Not with the power they have.

And I'm not just talking about their quirks.

If you do this, and I take it you are doing this....I can assure you, you'll be lucky if you live to regret it."

The temperature in the room felt like it fell a couple degrees almost immediately, as a sombre silence descended upon the lot of us, before a resolute voice piped up.

"We're ready for the consequences Yuji-san. We are to be heroes. We can't just walk away from things of such import, not at any cost. It's not what my brother would have done. It's not what I will either." Iida said, looking me in the eyes.

"Yeah. A real man faces challenges head on, with courage!" Kirishima cheered, pumping his fists.

"See." Deku replied, "You can trust us. Let us help. Please!"

"That what the rest of you think too?" I asked, looking at the rest of the class, "Playing hooky?"

Few met my eyes as I scanned the room, nervous, despite Iida's speech.

But some still did. Kaminari, Momo, Tokoyami, and to my surprise, Uraraka.

I observed her close as her resolution shook.

Tch...idiots.

"Uraraka....are you sure? You have a dream don't you?

You want to take your parents to Hawaii, give them a good life?

Can you afford to risk it, risk your hero career? On vague promises and unclear intentions?" I pushed.

Uraraka quiver, and her eyes betrayed guilt.

But she did not back down. Taking a step froward, she dry swallowed and gripped her fist, pushing out her chest.

"I'm...ready." She stuttered.

Shit...that almost moved me.

But, that aside, I needed to resolve this situation first.

"Very well. I was going to talk to the principal about this soon anyway. If you're in, follow me. I'll wrap it up in one go."

As we stood up to leave, another student followed me out.

Shoto.

"You too?" I asked intrigued.

"Yes. I'm tired of living under my old man's shadow. I want to be more than just Endeavor's son." Shoto replied.

I smiled. This might be easier than I had initially planned.

Perhaps, it was time for a change in the plans.

"Welcome aboard." I said, as we entered the Principal's office.

"Yuji-kun? And class A?" He greeted.

"Sensei, can you call All Might up here. I think it's time we talked."

"About what?" Nezu asked.

"All For One. And the traitor among our ranks." I answered, as gasps rang out among the group.

Sheh~

Nezu chuckled quietly, "So you figured it out?"

"As I thought.... you too Sensei?" I asked, acting surprised.

Nezu on the other hand didn't reply, instead choosing to press a button on his desk as a familiar ring sounded.

"Yagi-sensei. Meet me in the second conference hall, at your earliest convenience." He announced over the mic.

"As for you." he said, looking up to us, "Follow me."
