When the guards saw us back, they swiftly opened the door and helped Hu to place the kid on the bed. I sent one of them to fetch the physicians before sitting on the edge of the mattress, stewing in anger.

By the time the two old men arrived, I had worked myself up and… I channeled my inner Priscilla.

“The two of you are a disgrace to my father’s empire! How dare you disobey his orders!?”

“But princess-”

I glared at them and the royal guards in the house unsheathed their swords, the very sound making the two men tremble.

“I haven’t given you permission to speak, so be silent!” They bowed their heads and said nothing until I finished speaking. “My father explicitly told you to treat Gu Yi well, because he was instrumental in me being safe, did he not? Then why in heavens did you not obey? You have one job and one job only: to follow our commands! Now, tell me exactly why you saw fit to disobey that one order!”
