Bab 119: Fare Thee Well, My Love

Mu’s spirit didn’t let go of him until we were out of the restaurant and on our way back to my house. Before then, it had moved awkwardly left and right, murmuring under his breath about some of the marvels of this world and I just looked at him in stunned silence.

It was clear that his spirit wanted him to have some physical recollection of events, so as not to break whatever spell he was under. Often, he would come back to my side and take my hand, and in those moments the tension of his limbs lessened, and his eyes looked almost clear again.

It wasn’t until we stepped into Veska’s manor that his eyes cleared, and his smile became much more natural. After a few moments of gazing intently at me, he said, “I don’t think I have ever thanked you, milady.”

“Thank me? Why would you ever do that?” I asked, puzzled.

He shrugged elegantly. “Before I came here, my spirit was tired and weary. In this place, with you, I have finally found solace.”
