Katya watched her friend get a little too close to Cyrus as they danced. But she realized that Stephanie was lonely because her own beau had enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corp and was currently somewhere in the south of France. Katya allowed this small indulgence of intimacy. She would wait for the next slow number to get her chance to dance close to Cyrus.

Cyrus wondered why dancing with Stephanie had become easier until he realized that she was doing the leading.

"Cyrus, may I ask you something?"

"Sure, shoot," he replied.

"You like Katya, don't you?"

"Actually, I'm in love with her," he answered. "Why do you ask?"

"You're a handsome one, you are. Would you like to kiss me, she's not looking?" she asked.

"As tempting as that is, sorry, no, I'm true to Katya," he answered. "What is the old term? Ah, yes, I am her steady boyfriend."

"So, you would never do anything to hurt her?"
