Chicago, present day
Dawn finished her chili and attempted to serve some to Cheryl, but she said that she couldn't eat. Cheryl was working feverishly in the newspaper archive databases.
Cathy sat down with Dawn to share the simple meal.
"I feel so helpless," said Dawn. "I wish there was more I could I do."
"My family is happy that you're here with us today," answered Cathy. "My mom really likes you and once secretly wished that you and Cyrus would have stayed together."
"What about Katya?" Dawn asked.
"Oh, don't get me wrong; she loves Katya, too. I mean, this was how she felt before Katya came on the scene." Cathy paused to take a bite. "I'm scared, Dawn. I can't feel him. Cyrus and I were the type of twins who could feel each other's presence, even across time."
"I know," said Dawn. "You got it from your dad and Great-Grandma Kate."
Cathy answered. "But I can't feel him. It's like he's... dead."
