In the wheelhouse, Michael held Desi in his arms and refused to think of it as the last time. He was immortal, and so Desi would be, though she would forget her beginnings in Asgard. With time immemorial, he would find her again.
“Remember,” he whispered against her hair.
“I could never forget you,” she said with a small shake of her head. She’d told him it wasn’t possible for her to forget the love they shared. That somehow, she’d remember. It wasn’t that he didn’t believe she wished it was so, but Michael knew what stood between them. He knew what Heimdall’s power could do - and she would not remember her home. Or him.
“It doesn’t matter,” he said. He tucked her hair behind her ear so he could kiss her temple, then the corner of her eye, her nose. “I’ll find you - I swear it. And when I do, I’ll do everything in my power to help you remember.”
