Bab 100: Castor's Armies Pt. 3

Niel Month 11, Day 24, Year A.F 652. Avern, Kingdom of Rosalia.

The moment two thousand knights entered the field, was the moment I knew we only had a few hours to survive this battle.

Along with that realization was the thousand of fireballs dotting the sky. One intented on wiping out any of our resistance. With hurry I ran back to the safety of a tent, intent on conducting battle there.

But as I do so, "Brace for Impact!" I give a shout as the walls shake in from the damage those fireballs did.

Chunks of stone flew up as the wall breaks from the sheer might of their forces. With such a display of power, I steel my heart as I give out another order. "Send the first garrison to defend that hole in our walls."

The hole which opened up was a terrifying sight, the falling rocks and the melting stone all showed my men a sight of a terrifying promise.

A promise filled with death and fire. A messenger runs from the wall, bearing with him news.

"Sir! Five thousand infantry are heading towards the wall. Supported by the two thousand knights!" He reports to me before another barrage makes contact with the wall and the ground trembles once more as the wall collapse in a destructive sound and a sight of fire and destruction.

With such a sight I give a shout, "All men, wait for my orders. Hide behind the walls. We can't afford to lose men here."

The man salutes as I look down at the map, taking the little ink I have as I cross any part of the wall that has been compromised.

WIth quick thinking, I order my men to their designated post, aware of the upcoming push from their infantry.

"First and second garrison, send your men to the eastern wall!" I give orders to the officers around me as they look at the place my finger was pointing before nodding, gripping their reins as they ride to the walls, riding through the terrifying sounds of battle.

Another messenger then runs to my side as the once consistent barrage stop, "Sir, their knights are riding to the northern side!"

His words echo something in me as I give out another shout, "Have the second and third garrison station themselves there. We can't afford to have a single hole in out defenses."

The men around me salute as the adjutants of the second and third brigades run out to send the message. A sudden explosion rock the northern walls as a messenger runs to me at the same time.

"Sir, the northern wall has broken, the second and third garrisons have arrived at the hole in our wall." He shouts to me before he salutes, returning to the battle.

"That's good," I mutter.

Each garrison held at least a thousand soldiers. Ill-equipped or untrained in some aspects. But their capability to defend remains the same. One that should hold us for some time.

Another barrage explodes out as another messenger runs in, "Sir, the scouts report at least a thousand men running to the northern wall. A new hole has opened up."

"Send the fourth and the fifthe garrison, we must avoid them exploiting any more of our defenses." I reply to him as the recent event make me think.

With the current amount of explosion, those knights would at least need a rest. Something that would leave them at risk.

With that thought in mind, it would mean that something is making them risk this much. Another army perhaps? That's good, I can at least plan on holding for a few hours at least.

"Sir the enemy infantry has made contact!" An officer runs in his expression now filled with panic.

We are on our last legs, I have sent all of my reserves. The garrison is on the verge of breaking from the sheer amount of casualties we've incurred.

Their infantry are much more trained than ours, one capable of pushin us back with the advantage in equipment and training.

The city only survived from the continuous stream of soldiers I've put in. With the tenth garrison attacking the soldiers from the eastern wall.

An officer beside me then shouts, "Sir! I urge you to surrender! We can't handle any more of this battle. We'll just lose more men! Your reinforcements are not arriving!"

I give him a glare, "Stand Down! We fight here!"

The tensions heighten and the other officer stiffens, their eyes roving the situation trying to find a side, though before hostilities could start, a messenger runs in with a shout, his expression a mic of excitement and hope.

"Sir! Reinforcements are in sights!"

Ignoring the rebellious officers I ask him with a shout, "How many and where!"

"Sir, we approximate it to about ten thousand soldiers, no knights, all originating from the southern direction." He reports to me as I nod.

I look to the men around me as I shout, their eyes lowered from the almost rebellious turn of events, "Return to your battle stations! We'll hold till they arrive!"

"YES SIR!" The resounding reply was all I needed to hear as I remain seated, breathing out a sigh of relief from the escaped storm.

"Sir! The knights have ceased with their bombardments! They are redirecting their forces to our reinforcements." A messenger spoke as he entered.

"Good, tell our men to hold firm! Victory is within our grasp!" I shout as the man leaves.

The tent has become a flurry of activity, the countless shouts and the ringing of steel more than apparent through the tent as the battle intensifies, a reasonable response from the desperate enemy.

Though as time ticked on, it stopped. A fact that should have filled me with dread, insted filled me with relief, it could only mean that they are already diverting their resources to our reinforcements, a great relief for me.

A messenger then runs in once more, "Five thousand infantry has disengaged, our garrison are holding them off with ease."

I breath a sigh of relief at such a fact and mutter to myself as I let my head down to the table, "Thats a relief."

The relief, though, was followed by a messenger, whose expression were filled with anxiety and hesitation. He spoke, "Sir, I believe you should see this."

I look to him in curiosity before shrugging, I look around the tent to see the officers now relaxing, I give him a nod as I exit, "So, what' so strange?"

The messenger remains silent as he pushed forward unto the walls, the silence almost making me uneasy and the mess and destruction more than apparent.

The messenger only point unto the battle field before me, the strange battle almost comedic. The knights beaten by enemy infantry almost with ease.

While the five thousand infantry, was being butchered as if they stand meaningless. The army that has been our bane, one that has pushed us to the limit is now being crushed with ease.

It was only a matter of time before the enemy capitulated and all I could do was watch in awe and reverence.

"What are they?" I mutter to myself.

The messenger only replies, "We do not know sir."

With a soft click of the gun, I aim. The click of trigger was followed by an explosion, one that rocks the entirety of the clearing as the once one hundred men turn fifty.

The knight look around in shock and desperation. There are those pushed forward with hesitation, while some almost retreated from a primal fear.

Through it all I watch with a simple smile before Mary rides her horse forward before raising her sword, intent on fighting as I give her my support.

"Watch my back!" She shouts to me as I follow right behind her.

Orvin watchin this all with a passive expression as he follows right behin me.

The knight raise their hands, their magic cast as fifty fireballs head to our direction. I give Orvin a simple glance before he raises his hand with a flourish dispelling it all with ease.

It really was a boon that he's on our side. The knights, though, only look in shock before Mary arrives with her sword and eyes shining in a red light.

She makes contact with the enemy, her battle ferocious as blood spurts from any opening they leave behind.

Though some provide support, hand filled with fire launching themselves at Mary, one Orvin easily dispels.

I take aim myself as another, smaller explosion bursts out from the ground, hitting the knight that once more lost ten men from a single strike.

The enemy ready to fight for the last time, pushes forward before a loud drumming was heard and the enemy army retreats.

"Well, that was certainly easier than I expected." I said to Mary as I cross my arms.

She covered in blood only looks on as the knight run from her in fright as she ask, "Should we pursue?"

I take aim as I smirk, "There's no need."
