Kaito felt himself almost panic when he saw the omega walk closer to him. He was not presentable at all - his saliva almost overflowing and his eyes had a weird flow.
He was sure that as soon as the omega saw him, it would be all over for him. He would never be able to regain his dignity in front of the omega ever again.
"Are you comfortable now? Should we start?" the omega asked, not really looking at him and Kaito found himself glad for that, even if his wolf was not.
'He should look at us. Make him look at us' his wolf's demand was something he could not understand at all. Why would he want to be seen in such a shameful condition?
'Our desire is not shameful. Mate is just too irresistible,' Kaito supposed that his wolf was simply just an animal with higher intelligence and magical powers but the base was still made up of just instincts.
The animal kingdom was much more open about its affections after all and this was not something that would seem uncommon there.
'Humans are different. Believe me when I say that Noah would run if he saw us like this' Kaito saw his wolf panic at his words and also shut down the demand from earlier. There was almost quiet inside his head now which gave him enough time to get himself under control.
Once he felt ready mentally, he turned toward the fox.
"I'm ready now. So, what do we need to do?" The fox looked at him with narrowed eyes and Kaito almost sweated at that look. Had his shame been discovered causing the other to be disgusted with him?
But then the fox approached even closer and his brain began panicking even more.
The first voluntary touch at his hand by the wolf felt soothing. Soothing like a block of ice at a burn, it cooled his skin down a lot.
Vaguely, he noticed that the other's skin was still colder than a normal one but was at a much more bearable temperature than before. Some of his worries lessened and he found himself breathing a little easier all of a sudden.
"You said you feel the energy coursing inside you? Can you try and move it?" the fox demanded and Kaito instantly closed his eyes to comply.
It completely slipped his mind that an ordinary 21st-century kid should not have any idea what the fox was talking about.
The energy felt familiar and excited once he made contact. It gave no resistance when he tried to make it flow, his body circulating the whole thing over and over again through every part of his body.
The soothing touch was still there and always present at the corner of his senses which gave him a confidence he was lacking before. He felt connected with Noah, his magic flowing inside Kaito's veins.
It was an almost perfect moment, serene and time stopping.
But it came to an end all too soon when the omega pulled back abruptly. Kaito was not aware that anything was wrong but the flushed face in front of him made him feel like something was.
The thin body almost swayed on his own feet, the current body not being used to expelling such huge amounts of energy and regulating it in another's body and the effect was clearly visible on that face.
"Noah" Kaito called out, trying to catch the swaying body but his hands were swatted away by thinner and smaller ones as he tried to regain his own balance. Kaito and his wolf mourned the loss of opportunity.
"It seems like your expertise over magic was much stronger than I expected. You should not have any problem with manipulating it at all" the fox was heaving a little, clearly not fully recovered and it made the wolf worried over the other.
But showing anything on his face was probably not a good idea for now. Instead, he decided to divert the attention of the other.
"What can I do with magic? Is there a limit? Or a way to use it?" Kaito already knew all this but to keep up an act he had to act dumb.
The other bought his words with ease, a small and easygoing smile on that stoic face made his pupils shrink and his eyes widen just a fraction.
"Magic is something which is limitless unless you make it have a limit. The way to use it is different for everyone, but for a beginner like you, I would suggest going with a weapon. Would you prefer a sword? Or a spear?" The words were almost said casually and sounded nothing more than facts that the fox was coming up with.
But Kaito heard something completely different in those words and a sprout of doubt took root inside his mind.
After all, weapon mastery was an advanced magic form and not the basic one which the fox was suggesting. Kaito knew that he was bound to slip here and there but he was not sure when he had slipped so far to actually make his identity dubious.
This was no doubt a trap. If he relieved his knowledge then he would be caught but if he showed his skills in the sword, he would be found out even faster.
This was a tough choice.
As a ruler, he had seen his fair share of spies in his army, some trained and some untrained and one thing was common among all the trained people - they were never able to pass as untrained soldiers.
No matter how well they tried to pass off as untrained people, small habits would give them over and Kaito would be no different in this regard.
Noah had been a soldier too, he knew his way around battle and weapon as well as Kaito did. There was no going past him even on his best days.
So there was only one choice left and he toughened his face for the humiliating display he was about to present the other with but it was a necessity at this point. His identity depended on the other buying into his act enough to not question it.
He twisted his face into an expression of annoyance and unjustness.
"But a weapon sounds boring, not to mention I don't even know how to use one. Why can;t you just teach me how to make things explode instead?" Kaito made sure to whine in front of the other.
His cheeks burned at the humiliating display he had to put forth with the other but it was well worth it if it got him what he wanted. His only saving grace was that his body was still sixteen, young enough to be demanding and childish without anything being wrong.
The amusement was back on the fox's face and Kaito was sure that the heat in his cheeks this time was not due to magic at all.
"Alright, I see your point. But it's going to be tougher on your reserves. Are you sure you want to do this instead, master?" Kaito must have imagined the barest of the teasing tone in the fox's voice.
It was just his nostalgia that was making it sounds similar to his past life and he was sure that it was not the only time he had imagined it. Agreeing with Noah was all but a simple matter of saying 'sure' and then the real training started.
Noah had been right, his body felt much heavier as he tried to move the energy himself. Oftentimes it caused him to lose control of his leg or arm which became useless but by the end of the first four hours, it was much more manageable.
The break did wonders for his body and every attempt expanded his own reserve just a little bit more.
He still might not have had the magic of his own but Noah's flew almost effortlessly through his veins. It was soothing and a welcoming vibration below his skin.
Noah just watched from the sidelines, content to observe and provide guidance when he needed it the most. Kaito was not sure if he was going too fast or not, was it even normal.
But it must have been if Noah expected him to master it only one day. Besides, the fox did not look too worried or thoughtful at his practice so he took it as a good sign overall. If the other would let him be then he was more than happy to take the opportunity.
The night came far too early for his liking but his body appreciated the opportunity to rest. It was the deepest sleep of his life, his wolf shutting himself down even further to regain all the energy they used today.
And then came the morning of the dreaded week and it started with a strong earthquake which woke Noah up, the energy waves colliding with the ones inside him and he knew - the rift valley was opening up.
