CHAPTER 23

Half-dressed, Danny was standing over his bed while reading—well, more like struggling—through one of Mary’s dusty old books. The room was filled with them, all chaotically stacked both on surrounding shelves and windowsills. Parallel to his fold-out bed was a wide, wooden table in the middle of the small library that was also piled with books and covered with dust, only a few of which were in English. True love. Earth magic. He turned past several pages.

“True love,” he mumbled. A little over a year ago he would have laughed at those words, but after seeing it bloom for real between two very real people, the humor was gone. He skimmed down one page, trying to move past the unpleasant parts about faeries capturing women. He wanted to find out more about magic. Since Catherine was practically made of magic now, he was curious as to how it worked, at least for her.
