KAI GROWS QUIET, staring deeply into her eyes under the glow of moonlight.
"You were in the ball, weren't you?"
He pushes himself off of Aubrey, taking a step and placing both hands into his pocket. His body language only exposes him and Aubrey finds it funny, a soft chuckle leaving her lips.
"You saw everything that was happening to me at the ball and yet, you watched."
His expression grows cold, masking away every look of guilt and remorse. "It had to happen that way, sweetheart."
Her stomach turns at the nickname, "Why don't you just kill me now?" She urges him, pushing him slightly in the chest, his warm skin making her palms feels lonely once she takes them off. "Push me off this balcony now."
She tries to push him again but he grabs both of her arms, pulling her against his chest. She stays in his embrace for a couple minutes as her temper begins to calm, listening to his fast-beating heart.
