Bab 39: Upperhand
"What?" Ivan frowned. The sudden mention of his late mothers name made him feel uneasy.
"Don't get us wrong." Gritting at Rylon, Dylon snapped, "I told this idiot that he heard wrong."
Vigorously shaking his head, Rylon defended himself. "No I didn't, I am very sure she mentioned aunt Elena's name."
"What happened after that?"
"She kept cursing her while smashing things. 'You ruined everything again' she said this," Rylon quoted.
"That's not it, we also saw something else. We saw a strange black mark on her finger." Lifting his hand up, Dylon pointed out the exact location. "Right here."
Thinking for a while, Ivan inquired, "Did she see you both?" When they shook their heads, he sighed, "Alright, don't sneak into her workplace next time. You don't know what she keeps there and it's dangerous, okay?"
"Okay, we will be careful next time."
Glancing at the watch, he frowned, "I don't think she is coming, let me call Jason over to fetch you guys."
As Ivan was about to contact Jason, he received a call from the security team of the apartment complex.
"Let her in," he instructed before hanging up the call. Looking at the twins, he informed them. "Cynthia is here."
After some time, the doorbell rang. When Ivan opened the door, Cynthia smiled at him.
"It's been a long time," she remarked.
He briefly nodded his head without saying anything before letting her in.
"I purposely avoided the windows because I heard sudden entrance pisses you off." Looking at Rylon and Dylon, she sighed, "I hope these two did not trouble you a alot."
"Why don't you both go inside for sometime? I need to talk to Cynthia about something in private." When both of them left, Ivan folded his arms in the front and looked at Cynthia in a suspicious manner. "What are you up to?"
"What do you mean?"
"Why did you bring Dylon and Rylon here just to leave them by themselves all day? And where were you? From what I know, you hate being here so why are you here?" Ivan suspiciously questioned her.
When she did not say anything, Ivan added, "Listen to me Cynthia, I don't care what you were doing but if you are up to something it better not be related to people I know or someone I am close to. Maybe Darius puts up with your shit but I won't."
Smiling at him, she remarked, "You sound like your father, I see him in you." Helplessly shaking her head, she sighed, "You know Ivan, I always say this and I will say it again. You would be a great leader just like your father only if you were one of us."
When Ivan did not say anything, she smiled at him and called the twins over. "We will take our leave now."
"Maybe I am not one of you—" When she stopped and looked at him, Ivan marched towards her. "But I am still a Carter and I will forever remain one no matter what happens. So it doesn't really matter whether I am one of you people or not. I will always have an upper hand over you and everybody else."
Smiling at her, he added, "You may be one of them but I have more power than you, how interesting is that."
"Very interesting," Dylon grinned while Rylon chuckled. But both of them were forced to stay shut when Cynthia glared at them.
"Are you trying to threaten and accuse me of something?" she questioned Ivan.
Shrugging his shoulder, he answered, "Why would I accuse or threaten you? I am just asking you to always remember what I told you a few minutes ago."
"Let's go."
After Cynthia left with the twins, Ivan closed the door before walking towards the couch.
