"What have you been doing all this time?" Slate asked after the game finally ended.
The others were playing the next one but because he stepped away after that game, Clara obviously no longer wants to stay and actually returned to their cottage as well.
"Looking around?" Amethyst replied while tilting ehr head to the side.
"You know that is not the answer to my question," Slate said in a matter of fact tone.
Amethyst laughed, "But that really is what I am doing. I still don't know how I should collect materials here so I am looking around."
"But you haven't gotten close to the pool at all," Skate reminded taking a drink for himself.
"I'll get there," was her simple reply.
Slate no longer questioned her and took out a book to read. He came here to accompany her and not to swim, so he brought his book with him.
Amethyst seeing him go into his own bubble, didn't try bothering him and started making her brain work.
After she was able to get close to the pool, she needs to think of ways on how she will get the data she needed.
But her thoughts were disrupted when Clara suddenly came to the cottage.
She and Slate were sitting opposite each other and when Clara appeared, she actually sat beside Slate.
"Hi!" she greeted Amethyst.
Amethyst smiled back, "Hi."
"I really apologize for what I have done in the hospital, I really didn't know that you were a friend," Clara once again said.
When she uttered the word friend, it was in a tone that she was emphasizing that Amethyst was just a friend.
Amethyst smiled again, "Yes, I am indeed. But you really don't have to worry. You didn't know back then but you know now."
She was not in the mood to be quarelling over some pety things with this woman who was marking a territory that wasn't hers in the first place.
Slate remained silently reading his book, not sparing the two of them a glance.
"Anyway, why don't you join us?" Clara said with a smile pointing towards the group who was still in the middle of their activities.
"I thank you for that but I shall decline. I came here for a different reason and I want to focus in it for now."
Clara was obviously trying to separate her from Slate when in the first place the two of them weren't doing anything for her to actually feel jealousy about.
"Come on, it is not that bad. You'll meet more people, who knows you might end up meeting someone," Clara stood up and held Amethyst's hand.
Amethyst frowned because the grip was tight.
"She has work she needs to do. You came here to play, she came here for work. Why don't you stop disrupting her?"
Late finally spoke when she noticed the discomfort in Amethyst.
He was the one who invited her to join them in this outing, making her uncomfortable because of his colleagues is not something he would want.
Plus, Scarlet kept reminding him to watch over Amethyst because she knew that there is someone who wants his attention so much within his colleagues.
Clara bit her lower lip as she let go of Amethyst.
"We- Well, if you feel like it, you can join us anytime," she said but this time despite her smiling lips, her eyes weren't smiling at all.
Amethyst smiled in return but no longer said anything.
Clara could only leave but not without giving Amethyst one last glare.
"Wow," Amethyst sighed as she drank from her coffee.
"I'm sorry about that," Slate put down his book and said.
She shook her head, "Don't apologize, you actually drove her away for me. So I should thank you."
Slate didn't reply making Amethyst shake her head.
"You see, we don't choose the people who will like us. They fell for us, or have infatuation, or just attracted to our physical looks. But we never asked them. So you really don't have to apologize on the things that your admirers do because of their so called jealousy."
Slate looked at her for a good few seconds before his lips went up into a half smile.
"Woah, wait a minute, don't go suddenly showing me that," Amethyst was stunned.
He was always serious that she never really saw him smile.
He frowned hearing this.
"I am just saying that I guess I know why miss Thompson had fallen for you. Half smile from you could send anyone's heart jumping."
His frown deepen and Amethyst could only shake her head again and looked back at the pool.
"I'll get going and do my job. You go on and read your book."
Slate just watached her walk away before returning his eyes to the book.
Amethyst wasn't lying though, Slate was a handsome man and when he had that half smile a while ago, she did feel her heart flutter a bit.
And of course, Clara saw him having that half smile towards Amethyst, sending more jealousy to her heart.
Amethyst now slowly walked towards the pool, after getting used Little by little, she finally got close to it.
'I never thought I'd get the chance to stand this close to a pool again,' she thought as she looked down the water.
'And yeah, breathing is really difficult right now,' she added trying to calm herself down.
The memories that she was able to suppress a while ago started rushing back as if to taunt her.
'Calm down, calm down,' she kept repeating in her head.
The memory of their backs rushing away and her vision being obscured by water from time to time.
'Calm down Amethyst, you will be fine.'
"Just who do you think you are?"
A voice from behind interrupted her thoughts.
'Oh gosh, why must she follow me now?' she thought before turning to Clara.
"Just who are you? I never heard of someone like you being around Slate before," Clara was glaring at her.
"Weren't you the one who said I was a friend a while ago? And that is who I am, a friend of theirs," Amethyst was calming her nerves down while trying to act normal towards Clara.
"Do you think I couldn't see it? You are obviously trying to get his attention and you came here just so you could fend off other girls by having him all for yourself," Clara replied.
Amethyst didn't know whether she should stare at her with her mouth open or to raise an eyebrow towards her for her non sensical comments.
Oh no, it has a sense, because Clara was the one doing the things she was accusing Amethyst with.
"You can't answer? Because I was right," Clara added when Amethyst didn't reply to her.
'I am not in some kind of drama for me to experience this. I came here for work and this person just won't believe it. Seriously, some admirers are truly too much to handle. I think I pity him for this,' Amethyst narrated in her mind.
She has no desire of having a showdown with Clara and all she wanted to do is to step away from the pool because her nerves that is now being disturbed by Clara, could no longer focus on over coming her trauma.
So she took a step to the side, intending to wlak past Clara.
"I am not yet done with you," Clara pulled her by the arm and dragged her back to her original position.
A very bad move because she ended up slipping and is now falling towards the pool.
'This is not good.'
