"What in heaven's name do you think you are about to do!?" 

The woman questioned her housekeeper with a note of stoutness in her voice. It was Mrs Blythe who had done this. She stayed her condescending gaze on the culprit whilst she waited for an effective response. 

Bessie, on the other hand, did not know how to exonerate herself from this but she was adamant to push through with her plans regardless.

Bessie had woken up that morning as she had done every other morning since the departure of Elizabeth who was yet to return for a period of two weeks or more. So it seemed to her conscience which tormented her sore day and night, pricking at her heart like pointed needles to injure her for not having put in enough effort to have Elizabeth found out already.
