Bab 94: Lone Guard Tower
Something in the water? Is it blood?! Cue the music! Or not haha. How mysterious. I check inside and I can see…my house. Right, I almost forgot about that. So after having my house disappearing on me it now sank. In both cases it was my fault, but it still feels bad.
"Why did you summon it there?"
If I say it was a mistake, she'll expect me to recall it. I totally can't do that.
[Just letting it soak a bit.]
"Why?"
Now this part will be hard to say with a straight face.
[Won't it feel cool and comfortable down there?]

Now I just need to proceed with my bluff. I slowly enter the water and swim downward. Can I proudly tell people I have a tiny version of Atlantis? I am AquaPlantVessel! The one and only!
Before long I see the entrance. I just want to see the damage. In theory, everything should be fine. Should I just sit on my throne while submerged in water? Play the hidden wise king of the pond.
Wait, there is something peculiar. Yep, there is no water at all inside. Apparently, not only does it resist fire but there seems to be some sort of barrier. Quite similar to back in the volcano with the lava.
Now my only question is how much heat can it handle? How much damage too? Could it possibly serve as a shield?

No answer. I'm better off waiting for a confirmation from him or Yggdrasil himself. It would be ridiculous if I did durability tests on my own and ended up destroying it. That's when the huge head of the wyvern pops in.
[Hey there.]
"This is yours?!"
[Indeed.]
She goes in and out her eyes glowing at the phenomenon at the entrance.
[Cool, isn't it?]
"Very! How is this possible!"
[Magic.]
"Can you teach me?!"
Let's go with half-truths.
[Hehe, this place was actually built by a friend. I won't reveal any of its secret without his permission.]
Not that I know myself haha. I sit upright and close my eyes. That is how I spend the next two weeks. All this time working on my proficiency at accessing my sea of consciousness. I find that the trick is to recall my past. As simple as that.
Well, it sounds simple but there is the state of mind required to go with it too. I can't really explain it. Anyway, I'm glad I finally got rid of this flaw of mine! Ta-da-da! I am now able to bring it out and in at will!
I and the Queen Wyvern also became closer somehow. Enough for her to let me ride her. Alright, enough time wasted.
[Queen bring me to that first guard tower. The one you said is weak.]
We depart promptly. I keep riding her all day and night long. A few times. Taking short flying breaks from time to time. Until finally we arrive at a desolated-looking building. To my surprise, it doesn't even seem maintained. I wonder what happened here.
"This is as far as I can bring you."
[Why?]
"Anti-Monster formation and alarm magic. They'll know if I come any closer."
[Can't we just bypass it to leave?]
"We could but there is a shortcut in the area it covers.
Otherwise, we would have to spend a month going over the mountain peaks."
[How do you even know all that?]
"I saw them set it all up. After I ate a lot of their cattle. They had too many troops for me to fight."
[Wow. So how do I bypass it?]
"There should be a magic gem that fuels it.
A black one. You can't miss it. As long as you destroy it quickly it should be fine."
[Roger that.]
She lowers me onto a ledge on the cliff. It takes me a long time, but I crawl my way right under the building. That is when I can hear a conversation.
"What are we even doing here?"
"You mean guarding this place?"
"Well yeah, there is no reason for us to be here."
"Well, the reason is that we both slept with the general's wife."
"I mean who hasn't?"
"Let me rephrase. Because we got busted sleeping with her."
"True, but still they will get alarmed automatically if a strong monster shows up anyway."
"Yes, but they could lose a mana core. Sadly, both of our lives are worth less than one."
After that, they stop talking for some reason. I could keep eavesdropping, but I prefer a faster method. I casually climb over the tower to enter by a window. Then I quickly summon vines to capture both of them.
They are disheveled and seem to have known better days. Their beards are unkept. Their smell is atrocious. But they do wear what looks to be a military outfit. I can't help but smile.
[Hello to both of you.]
*Panicked*
"Don't kill me I have a kid!"
"What? Liar!"
"Maybe I do, and I just don't know!"
"Then so would I!"
[*Sigh* Are you guys done yet?]
"Yes! X2"
[Now, I need information. You guys have information.]
"We are proud soldiers of…"
"Dumbass! I'm not dying here for you! I'll talk!"
"Asshole! I'm going to talk more than him!"
"So what if you talk more?! My information will be more accurate!"
[Are you guys done yet?]
"Ah, yes."
[Tell me all you know about this place.]
"It sucks!"
"The food is the worst!"
"Yeah! We've been eating mushrooms ever since coming here!"
"At first it wasn't that bad but after a few months it becomes horrible!"
"Then there is also how boring this place is!"
"Yeah! All we can do is play cards! But that guy always cheats!"
"Hey! So do you!"
Okay, it seems months of proximity rendered them completely insane.
[Let me get this straight. You both hate this place, right?]
"Of course! X2!"
[Then why don't you just leave?]
"On one side is a mountain full of wyverns. On the other, a whole formation made with blessings."
[You guys are human and shouldn't get blocked by these anyway, no?]
"Nope, the one here is just an alarm but the one over there is a murder formation."
"Otherwise, we wouldn't still be here. *Sigh*"
"Yeah, we would have run and hidden in some small town away from our enemy."
"Sadly it's not possible."
I look at them grinning.
[I am going through. Want to join?]
