Bab 39: Promise me.
After Lisa slammed the door without looking back, I turn to aunt Mary to see her gulping her drink and I sigh.
I walk to my room to sleep but obviously I couldn't get any sleep and before I knew it, it was morning.
I got up, showered, got dressed, and was ready for school.
I saw aunt Mary sprawled out on the couch on my way to the front door.
I walked into the living room and saw bottles lying everywhere on the floor, a bottle that was half empty in her hand, and used tissues all over.
I sighed, dropped my bag on the couch, and began cleaning.
After some minutes, I was done and I hurried to the bus station.
I made it in time before the bus left and by the time I got off, I was almost late so I made a run for it. Luckily, I got to school five minutes before the bell rang.
"Woah. What happened?" Chloe asks as I reach my locker panting.
"I.....had....to...run... here."
She brings out a bottled water from her bag and hands it to me. "Easy there girl." She pats my shoulder.
"Thanks." I opened it and took a big gulp.
"So how are you feeling?" She asks.
"Peachy."
"I've been there."
The bell rings and we both head to class.
....
I haven't seen Lisa nor Nick since and we were already in lunch.
I was anxious.
Anxious of the fact that Nick might truly be avoiding me.
And I haven't seen Lisa all day. She might be slacking in school, but she still shows up everyday.
"Um Chloe?"
She looks up from her phone. "Hmm?"
"Have you by any chance seen your brother?"
"My brother?"
I nod. "Yeah."
She shakes her head. "I didn't see him during the weekend, but we spoke yesterday. He said he's busy."
Yeah. Busy avoiding me.
"Oh okay."
I get back to playing with my food.
"Hey girls." We both turn to see Miles sit beside me.
"Hi." I give him a small smile.
"Hey Miles."
He turns to me, rests his hand on the table and gives me a big smile.
"Hello sweetheart."
Although he looked like he hasn't had any sleep in days, he still looked hot.
Shit.
I looked away and cleared my throat.
"You look like you haven't had a decent sleep in days." I state.
"Yeah. The test must be taking its toll on me." He yawns. "But you could make me feel better." He winks.
Chloe throws a fry at him. "As if you ever study Anderson."
"The way you think so little of me is so touching Hart." He picks a fry from my try and throws it at her.
She rolls her eyes. "Very funny."
"Only for you babe." He winks at her and she gags.
He turns back to me. "So where were we? Ah yes, so dinner tonight?"
What?
"What?"
He ignores me. "I can come pick you up let's say eight-ish?"
"I didn't agree to anything!"
"You might not say it in words, but your eyes say everything."
"Gag." Chloe interrupts.
"You're just jealous."
"You wish."
Their banter was starting to make my head ache.
"Listen Miles," I begin. "I'm flattered and all, but I'm tired and I'm not in the mood to go out tonight."
"Tomorrow night then?"
"No."
"You're really adamant on not going out with me huh?"
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine." He smiles. "It's makes it all interesting."
What?
"See you girls later." He takes another fry and throws it at Chloe before he winks at me and walks off.
"God that boy is annoying." Chloe huffs.
"Yeah." I mutter.
"Listen," Chloe starts. "I know it's not my business, but I have your best interest in heart, but I think Miles is bad news."
I look at her. "Why do you say so?"
"Nick really keeps his friends for long and there must have been a really good reason for him to stop being friends with Miles."
"Have you ever thought maybe if it's Nick's fault they aren't friends anymore?"
"I know Nick can be annoying sometimes, but he can't just ruin a decade old friendship like that."
"And you think Miles can?"
"Raven, I have known Miles since when I was little. And I can tell you that boy has some really loose screws."
I roll my eyes. "Yeah right."
"I'm serious here Raven."
"So am I."
She leans close to me."Just promise me you'll be careful?"
"Trust me, he isn't harmless."
"I know but I've known Miles longer and I've seen him. Just promise okay?"
I sigh. "Fine. Although I think it's totally unnecessary, I promise."
She smiles. "Thanks. Now time to dig into my fries before the bell rings."
And just then, we hear the sound of the bell.
