Bab 27: Seizing the throne (4)
Things didn't quite go as Esteban wanted as he found himself on the wedding altar getting married to Elsie. His mother was a tough woman to deal with and he lost to her. He stood uncomfortably at the altar with Elsie beside him. He wished that at the very least Elena should not witness his wedding to someone else but fate was against him as Elena got up from the bed and got ready to attend the wedding.
She took her bath and wore a beautiful off-shoulder black dress that swept the floor and hugged her body revealing her curves. She put on a pearl necklace and earrings and combed her hair. Before she used to have servants who attended to her needs but now she had none. She used to have lady royals but Elsie took that too. She used a butterfly clip to hold her hair in place and wore her tiara but took it off. The realization hit her that she had lost her crown along with everything else.
She looked at herself in the mirror for a long time and got rid and any sign that may show others that she had been crying. She walked out of the room wearing a very big smile on her face and jumped her way to the hall where the wedding was taking place. She whistled the tune to her favorite song as she went to the hall. She arrived at the hall and the guards were clueless on how to introduce her to the people. They opened the door for her and let them in the hall without an introduction.
"Thank you," Elena said as she made her way into the room. Everyone was shocked to see her and they all stopped to look at her. She made her way to an empty seat right next to queen Regina and sat down. The whole hall was staring at her including the bride and groom.
Esteban felt his heartbreak in his chest when the love of his life came to witness him getting married to someone else. He glanced in Elena's direction and caught her smiling, he bit his lower lip until it bled. He could see that Elena was forcing herself to smile and understood that it wasn't easy for her to get through everything that happens to her.
"Didn't expect to see you here," said the queen in a hushed voice.
"It is a royal wedding it would be rude if I didn't attend. And you should know by now that I don't expect defeat easily."
"But there is no way for you to get out of this one. I mean the shame of being an illegitimate child that is and there is no way you will ever be queen," she said and Elena grabbed hold of her Phoenix sword. She calmed herself down not once losing her smile and turned her head to look at Regina.
"But without the crown, I have no limitations. I have lost everything and have nothing more to be taken from me, I can do anything I want. And as you know I have a way of blaming others for my crimes. So I would watch my tongue if I were you."
"True but the Queen, Elsie would have to punish you for your crimes."
"Who knows, I might just kill Elsie and pin it on you. Then who will punish me?" she asked with a sinister smile on her face that sent shivers down Regina's spine.
She trembled in her seat at that threat, she was well aware of the girl's capabilities as she had once fallen victim to her plans not long ago. That is the very reason she didn't want Elena n the throne but she now realized that it wasn't the crown that gave Elena power but anger. And she had just made the biggest mistake, taking everything from the girl has provoked a fire on her that would consume all.
She sat nervously in her seat and tried to put some distance between her and Elena. Elena loved the fear that she smelled on the Queen and it made her happy to see her uneasiness.
"Don't be afraid queen. I won't hurt you today but you can be certain that I will never forget that you snatched everything I held dear and gave it to someone else. I also will not be able to forgive you for the mistake that you have made and I will get even very soon."
She got her attention back to the wedding and watched another bride take the man she loved. Today was supposed to be her day and she had made all the arrangements but some else got to be the bride at her wedding. She controlled her emotions and watched the wedding with a smile. She could hear murmurs around the hall, she paid attention to hear what they were saying only to realize that they were gossiping about her. They were talking about her and calling her all sorts of names.
She looked forward and held on tightly to her sword, she wanted to paint the whole castle with their blood but chose not to. Revenge will come to Atria and when it did it will be something that they will speak of for many years to come. The bride and groom took their vows and exchanged rings and the wedding ceremony was called to an end.
The reception was held by the lake where the food and drinks had already been set for the guests. Elena took Regina's hand and held it as they made their way to the lake. She enjoyed the way the Queen tensed at her touch, the nervousness that was clear in her face brought a real smile on her face. The queen hurried to the lake and sat at the high table, Elena set herself next to her.
The servants served her food and she waited for a couple of the day before she could dig in. Sofia the queen of Izmia sat beside her at the table, she didn't seem pleased that Elena was seating at the high table meant for the royals but she didn't say anything. The couple sat down in their respective seats and the people were allowed to start eating.
"I am glad you could make it to the wedding," Elena heard and lifted her head to find that Elsie was the one who spoke.
"How could I not. I needed some motivation that there every dark cloud has a silver lining and every dog has it's the day," she replied.
"And did you find your motivation?"
"Yes, I did. Right, Regina?" she asked and the witch choked on her food. King Marcus was kind enough to offer her water but it didn't ease her tense body. "See, she agrees with me."
"I am sorry about everything that happened to you."
"No need to apologize to me, crown princess. I think that it is good that the misunderstanding was cleared and you got what you rightfully deserved. I wouldn't have it any other way and I even told Regina that. I am happy for you," she said and gazed at the tensed queen with a bright smile.
"Then you are going to love what I have planned next." Elsie took her glass and a spoon, she gently hit the glass to get everyone's attention. When they all stopped to listen she made an announcement. "I would like to this opportunity as the crown princess to select and crown Elena as the royal concubine," she said and Elena's jaw dropped.
