Bab 35: First Kill?
Because of his slight distraction, the utryon gained an upper hand for a second as it scratched his thigh resulting in a nasty cut. Jin Lin took a step back and gave a casual glance at his wound. It was painful but maybe because his body constitution had changed his pain tolerance was higher.
At the smell of blood, the creature stuck out its long slithering tongue and licked its claws savouring the taste of blood. Jin Lin was greatly disturbed by its perverse action and frowned in disgust.
That is when the system interjected after being ignored. It suggested, 'If user needs to watch an introductory video on how levelling up works and what to expect at each level I can make arrangements,' seeming helpful.
Jin Lin thought it wasn't necessary but because it was available there was nothing wrong with checking it out lest there is anything so he replied, 'Sure,' while lunging forward to meet the creature head-on.
'Oh great, that would be 10 Qin. Would you like to rent the video on credit?' replied the seemingly excited system.
Jin Lin, "...."
He didn't even bother replying as he engaged in a heated battle with the utryon. Even as a novice player in Gods of Equino he never had to work this hard to kill creatures but now he was a sweaty mess with a leg injury and the beast didn't look like it was getting worn down.
The utryon would climb up the walls and launch attacks from above which was incredibly annoying. Its claws were razor sharp which meant he couldn't risk being scratched by those things again. The only good thing was that the cut from earlier had taken away its ability to be invisible because he could still see the streak of blood.
After going at it for ten minutes straight Jin Lin was fed up. He shot up at a great speed and dodged the long limbs striking in his direction by sliding down with its arm hovering two centimetres above him. He abruptly got up, spun 360 degrees in the air and sliced the feelers on the creature's head in the process.
The utryon's blood splattered in all directions like a hose pipe on a rampage as the cut feelers wiggled on the ground like fish out of water. The enraged utryon struck at his chest sending him flying across the cave. His body hit the cave wall with a loud thud before he fell to the ground.
Jin Lin placed his hand on his chest half kneeling on the ground as he coughed out a mouthful of blood. Breathing heavily he glared at the creature that was still distraught about its feelers like a girl who just woke up and found all her hair gone.
A burning pain emanating from his chest prevented him from getting up. He could only endure it as he half supported himself with the arming sword he had stabbed into the ground. But the pain seemed to get worse the longer he stayed down.
To make matters worse the blue tattoo on his neck started to itch so much that he couldn't bear it. The excruciating pain had him checking his inventory for some healing elixir. Lucky for him the system wasn't stingy. Inside the care package was a low-grade healing elixir.
He took it out and tried to open it but because he was in so much pain his hands trembled and he dropped the bottle. Lucky for him the ground was covered in red sand otherwise he would have wasted his only hope.
Just as he reached to pick it up, it seemed the creature had finally become lucid. It stopped trying to put back its feelers when it realised it was a pointless task. It bellowed as it dashed towards him in a frenzy.
"Fuck!" muttered Jin Lin as he hurriedly picked up the bottle. One could easily tell that he was sweating bullets because his blue hair was damp sticking to his forehead. He hurriedly stood up and made a break for it as he opened the bottle in haste.
With the bottle open he gulped down that elixir like a man dying of thirst. It seemed the effect wasn't instant because his body still felt like he had been hit by a train. Because his strength had reached its limit and the pain was unbearable he felt dizzy and miss stepped resulting in him eating a mouthful of dirt for the second time today.
He quickly turned over intending to get up but the utryon was faster than him. It pressed him down by directly stepping on Jin Lin's right arm. Venting out all its anger at this stubborn prey that refused to die it squeezed its leg on Jin Lin's arm and its claws dug into his skin making him cry out in pain.
The utryon bent down and growled at him with its blood from the chopped off feelers dripping onto Jin Lin's face. Unwilling to die like this, he stretched out his hand to grab the sword that had fallen a few inches to his left.
His face was red from the pain with his veins throbbing under his skin. The longer his left arm stretched out the more excruciating the pain from his right arm but he was determined and reluctant to be this nasty beast's dinner.
Just as his fingers touched the hilt of the sword it was suddenly flung away by the utryon extinguishing his last hope. Jin Lin began to see his entire life flash before his eyes as the creature raised its arm to finish him off.
He didn't get to achieve his goal but he had no regrets because he had tried his best. The young man had resigned to his fate so he closed his eyes hoping for a quick death but just as an overwhelming feeling of peace swept over him the expected blow didn't come.
He opened his eyes only to find the creature's hand paused mid-air. Vexed he looked down only to find his body shrouded in a yellow light like something big was about to go down. This is what had distracted the creature buying him time.
Maybe it was because it also realised something big was about to happen that it suddenly moved deciding to finish the job before its too late. Just as it moved its arm its entire body suddenly came crashing down as it fell on top of Jin Lin.
