The gap between messages closed swiftly, even as they seemed to slow down, as the ship used the gravitational point to drag their momentum away. 

They were less than a year out when they received the King's first response to the messages they had sent as they had left the other solar system. They had already passed the station that had been sent outward to bounce their messages more strongly.

By the time their reply reached the King, and he replied again, they were less than half a year from home. 

Rafaela could only regard Brendan's father with amazement. The King reported that he had already restored the status of all aboard to living. Though he warned that the possessions and accounts they had held, that had been distributed in accordance with their wills, remained with those who had inherited them.
