After Rafaela finished the food, she investigated the "waste disposal" compartment. It turned out to be a far more comfortable and elaborate bathroom than she had quite expected to find.
She felt like her brain was still waking up as she remembered how small the Beyonder ships had been. Not as small as the Prince's ship in the race, but not much larger than her mother's ship. The room she was in wasn't quite as large as the cabin in the old scout, but if each side of the square hid another curved room to fill out the circle, it would be equivalent.
She couldn't help raising her eyes to look at the ceiling that hid a room with display screens and a seat, and then dropping her eyes to the floor that hid at least one unknown room below. It didn't quite make sense. Presumably these ships had traveled between systems. Sure, newer drives might be smaller, but surely something that could produce a much higher speed would need at least as much, if not more fuel.
