Bab 3: [III] - Concrete cage

In the darkness, being softly lit by the mysterious and ominous blue light, a tall and slim man was standing. Wearing a black industrial oversized hoodie with suspenders, attached with two guns, one on each side, covering his face with a hood and a mask, he truly looked like a master of the void. Only his big beautiful diamond eyes were glowing, looking widely at me from under the long dark bangs of this man.

Those eyes... looking directly into mine. I was sinking in them, drifting away, and forgot in what horrible place and situation I am.

There was a dying man, on the edge of his life, lying next to me. And not only that. He was also an Order Officer, one of the kind that were above the law. Helping him would not only make him in debt for me, maybe I could even achieve a friend? But that's only a materialistic way of thinking. Even if he would be a totally different person, a friend or an enemy, I would help him too. Because that's the kind of a person I am. I pity everyone. If I'm not going to care about them, then who's going to do it?

Thinking about it as I stared at the mysterious person, I realized at the last moment, that the person standing before me was probably the one that has contributed to the state of the dying person next to me. In the awkward silence, I could feel the breaths of us three. The blue-eyed man was breathing deeply and calmly, as if he feared nothing. My shivering and shallow breaths couldn't get outside, and the lying officer... almost imperceptible movements of his injured body. Is he at his true end? Or maybe he is trying to act like a dead person, so he can possibly get out of this alive? And the mysterious person... he is still staring at me. I know, that as long as he is looking at me, he won't do anything bad. So I just have to think a bit longer about what should I do? What should I do, don't panic, what should I do? Think, think, thi...

"What the hell are you doing?! Kill them! Kill them both! What is happening to you?!" — Out of nowhere, another mysterious and masked person, holding a strange weapon, appeared near the blue-eyed man.

He was shoter, wearing a silver-gray mask, and similar clothes. In his voice I heard great anger and irritation. Pressure and compulsion.

My heart was beating like crazy. Every breath was taking precious seconds away from me. One wrong move and the outcome will be solid. My death. How can I escape with an injured man? Can we both come out of this alive…?

This extending moment had to be finally interrupted.

I decided.

As the slim man turned to face the other one, I immediately got up, with all my force pushed his body towards his companion.

I started running as fast as I could, in the direction of the blue light, without looking back behind. I didn't return into the darkness, I would definitely lose them, but probably could also lose myself. If there are even any chances to escape, I will run where I can see and perceive. Depending myself on my senses has made me come this far.

With the fear entangling my body, I could sense all my limbs becoming weak. I couldn't feel my legs at all, as if made from cotton, I only ordered them in my mind to move as fast as possible, while trying not to trip and collapse to the ground. The nausea started to kick in, as I felt a large bulge growing in my throat. The terrifying thought of coming across someone more dangerous than a mere officer, I have never imagined this.

In drastic situation like this, there is no hoping that everything will come in your advantage. Wishing for miracles is futile. In a reality like this… everyone climbs up a ladder made of corpses, just to achieve their own personal goals.

Whatever these two want to have, they will after all cost. To push themselves to fatally injuring an government officer…

They won't have any barriers to end me as I am.

I didn't have enough strength to pick up the bleeding officer, but instead came up with an idea that could probably work.

Barely having the guts to gulp my own saliva out of the terrifying statement I came to realize, I also understood, that they won't let me out of here alive.

If wanted to escape, they would have to pursue me. Either one person of two, I would definitely have somebody on my tail. And the injured man... Would be left alone or with only one person.

Before I got up to run, I carefully took out the communication device I used, out of my pocket, and dropped it near the wounded officer. I hoped that no one would notice it, and that this man could probably use it, to help himself. So many probabilities, I hoped for the best of them to come out true, I hoped that no one will notice that he is alive. Maybe someone will come for him. We will get out of this. We must.

"Don't look idiot! Run after him! He can't escape!" — I heard the shouting voice of the man in the gray mask in the distance behind me.

Still running chaotically though the alleyway, escaping in fear twice the same day will definitely have an impact on my physical and mental health. But screw that, I have too many to things lose, so I don't care about my health. If I can get out of this alive, even after burning up my lungs, pushing my body to its edge, will do it, I must do it!

I headed in the direction of the noises and lights I heard before, now that they disappeared, I wasn't fearing that something would happen to me at that place.

But how different the truth become, when I run outside the alley, on the big square I didn't know even existed in my city, so near to me.

The big gray asphalt square, probably 100 meters long and wide, covered from every side with tall and concrete buildings, without any windows - impenetrable walls - was covered in a dark red substance which was blood.

On the ground, countless bodies of Order Officers, were lying.

Shattered all around the place, in dark blue clothes, in the most miserable positions, a true picture of a massacre, a one that a mere human could never even imagine. A sight out of a horror, I couldn't even count them all, as they all merged into one mass of blue clothing soaked in blood, covering distorted bodies, with no shapes of any parts of the body.

When beholding this view, I became paralyzed.

How could one… how could anyone do this?!

Murdering so many people, so brutally like that?! Why?!

My cold hands started to shiver, as I felt sick looking at this all.

I… I need to move fast, and… Try… Try not to think…

My eyes became swollen, I felt like crying my tears out.

These were the officers I despised so much, but… Killing so many alive people like that… They didn't deserve an end like that.

I can't end like them. Ordering my legs once again to move, I forced myself to run through the path between all of those bodies.

I tried to avoid them as far as I could. This is the most frightening picture I have ever seen in my entire life. Was there anyone alive? If only I could help... Anyone...

I noticed that the concrete walls had weird black irregular marks on them, as if something dangerous exploded many times. The bullet marks carved ominous and scary patterns. This place was truly a battlefield. Two unknown assasins versus a squadron of armed and strong men, a battle with an obvious outcome you would say, but how different the result is. I was so terrified. I want to get out of here as quickly as I can.

I ventured across the place, but as I was getting to the other side, I couldn't see any way out of it. No way!!! There must be another way to get here! Don't tell me that the void alleys that I used to get here are the only ways of the escape!

As I was getting closer and closer to the wall, I urgently looked around, panicking. Nothing apart from lying bodies caged inside four concrete walls of doom.

Think!

My body was shaking. Climbing those walls definitely isn't an option. They are definitely too steep, with no carvings.

Think!

My heart was jumping inside of my body. Where is even this place? Was it on a map of my district? If not, then where would it possibly be?!...

Think!

My hands started to go numb. The bodies around, there was a fight, and where a fight is, weapons are... Weapons! Guns!

I couldn't escape. My only option was to fight. But... I... Never used these kinds of weapons before. Every time something dangerous was about to happen to me, I just ran away, like a coward. And I, couldn't hurt anyone either...

I searched next to me, but I couldn't find a single weapon. No! There must be some left! They couldn't take every one!

I knelt down trying to urgently find something that would help me defend myself. While I was quickly searching through the clothes of the bodies, my hands came across something. I reached into the pocket of a lying body of an officer. I grabbed something hard and took it out.

It was a communication device! The similar to the one I use at home to secretly listen to Order Officers channels, news and announcements. I looked at it with the excitement. I just have to communicate! Holding the device in my left hand, I reached deeper into the pocket, there was something more! I can't believe it's so eas...

A sound of a lifting gun came from right before me. Before I could do anything, react, a loud and ringing shot pierced through my thoughts.
