Bab 162: The vortex (4)

After the banquet, she knew Loretta was expecting her so she went in search of her. 

"How did it go?" Asked Loretta. 

"I think he's interested in me," Marlena said. "What now?" 

"Now you wait for his proposal." Loretta gave an order and four maids came rushing in, carrying uncountable gowns. Loretta looked her up and down. "You will wear these from now on." 

"You don't need to…" 

"Do you  want everyone to talk about the prince of Kallistar taking interest in a maid?" 

Marlena gritted her teeth. "What's wrong with being a maid? You used to be one!" 

"You ungrateful little…" she charged at her and was going to slap her, but something stopped her. The same thing that had stopped her for years, which Marlena was yet to understand.
