Bab 45: Chapter 45: Exchange Function
One day had passed.
Adam was educated by Gil and others about the ins and outs of the base, starting from the basic food and water distribution, tasks and special cases like research and innovations.
Even in the apocalypse, the people still regarded research as an important factor for survival that's why geniuses and brilliant researchers are treasured by the base.
Of course, Adam knows his own capability and didn't indulge himself in the field of research.
That's why he decided to join the production field which mainly focuses on planting mutant plants.
Yes, mutant plants.
Adam just knew right now that some plants actually mutated and it had become one of the focused materials that the base is researching.
Some of these mutated plant even have abundant yields and extremely strong vitality.
Although not all mutated plant bear fruits and some are even poisonous, some edible mutated plants were discovered and they are being studied in the base and even in the main army base.
But these types are hard to find and cultivating it is still in the observation stage.
Some mutated plants that were taken from their original planting space died. Even the seeds taken failed to grow.
There are successful cases of growing mutated plants with edible fruits but the current amount failed to meet the demand of the base.
That's why botanical experts and others are stumped on how to cultivate mutated plants.
This is also why these fruits can only be bought using contribution points which is the system used in the the base for trading and they are also very expensive, even treated as luxury items by the strong survivor teams in the base.
So what is the point of all these?
Of course it is related to his fruits in his space! He want to try whether he can transplant it outside and make stable food supplies in the base.
Of course Adam didn't plan to transplant each types but only offer the most common one. He can just say that those are mutated plants that he luckily encountered in the south region and he can easily clear out any suspicion.
But this is still theoretical.
He must first observed whether he can plant those fruits outside his space first. In the past days, that garbages and leftovers were left to Jaya that's why they didn't have any chance to observe one.
Now, they must have one fruit seed to observe and see if any changes happens.
" Let's go outside Jaya, Arthus and make our first garden. "
Jaya who is cleaning the house until it sparkle immediately left the rest of the task undone.
Arthus who was having a serious face off with the table adorned with a simple vase is on a serious contemplation.
Tried putting the bumblebee on the side of the vase.
Can't fit.
Move the vase on the side... don't look good.
*Swoosh * push the vase off. * crash "
Put it in the center, Perfect.
Satisfied with his work, Arthus burned the vase fragments using the flames of the abyss and clean up his mess.
" Are you done? " Adam asked.
" Yes... my [ lord ]. "
After the short episode, Adam trio went outside and look for a place to experiment.
Good thing that Gil and the others are busy as they set up their identities in the survivor team administration to make Abyss Team an official group in the base.
As for Adam, Jaya and Arthus' background, they were easily settled by Base Chief Rhea.
" Come to think of it, Chief said she will visit in a few days. I think I should prepare something for her. "
But that's for later. What is important right now is to try planting a seed outside the [ Garden of the King ] and see whether it is feasible.
The single detached house given to them is covered in all corners by a three meter fence which provide a sense of privacy. Planting a single tree should bot be too eye catching.
Adam then took an apple and get some seeds from it.
Why apple?
It is because apple is one of the highest yielding fruit trees and if ever, it will surely help the base if successfully cultivated.
Also, the shelf life of apples are actually long and it will be helpful in the current situation where refrigerators and waxes are not available to preserve foods.
Adam then dug a pit and put the seed in as he wait on the side patiently.
" It's not going to grow any minute now? "
" Planting doesn't work like that master. "
" You should... read... books, my [ lord ]. "
Erm, how embarrassing. Arthus and Jaya witness my stupidity at it's finest.
Of course tree won't grow so fast normally.
Is it the same principle in the space too?
" Enter. "
Adam along with his two people were transferred inside the [ Garden of the King ] and he immediately took another seed and tried planting it on the ground.
In less than 2 minutes the ground started squirming then a sapling burst out turning into a tree and even already bearing fruits.
" So it grow so fast in here! "
" System, can't the seed be planted outside the garden? " Adam asked the system. If a problem is hard for you, let those who knows better tell you the answer. That's why search engines are made in the first place.
Ding!
" Answering the host, plants granted in the garden can be planted outside but it will take a normal growth time for it to fully reach maturity. "
Can it be accelerated?

" Can. "
Great! So how can it be accelerated?
Ding!
" Processing host's request... "
" To satisfy the host, a new function has been added. The host can exchange using 5 tokens for specified requests that is possible within the range of the system's capability. "
5 tokens? That's quiet a lot. Counting the tokens from slaughtering a hundred thousand zombies barely reach 21 in total. Spending 5 in a single request is actually expensive.
The good thing, you can already request for a specific items or abilities without relying on chances and generosity of the system.
" Use five tokens to modify the plants inside the [ Garden of the King ] to have accelerated growth outside the space. Full maturity and fruit bearing age must be reach within 5 days but make the fruits ordinary but very nutritious. "
Having 5 days maturity should be good compared to 2 minutes right? If it is only 2 minutes, people would be too shocked. Even if 5 days seems short, some mutated plants are actually capable of it according to Gil.
So having the same maturity time should not be that conspicuous in this apocalypse.

Request granted. "
Five tokens gone and there are only 16 left. Money is burning too fast!
After that, the trio went out of the garden and return outside their house.
Adam plan to observed the growth rate in person. Even if he know that the plant will reach maturity in 5 days, he wants to see it too.
Well, who made him so idle. Instead of staying in the room, it is better to have something to do.
" Let's camp here! " Adam decided.
It's better to turn this waiting game into an outdoor experience. They took a tent and even prepared a fire to roast marshmallows as they waited.
after an hour, the ground broke and a sapling is already visible.
2 hours later, it grows in length and diameter which should be enough to be called a twig.
5 hours later, it is already at waist length.
" The growth rate should not be too shocking. The researchers would surely love this. "
During this time, Gil and the others returned but they didn't see Adam or Jaya and Arthus inside.
" Where is boss? "
" Did he went out? "
" I told you one of us should accompany them! "
" Chill. Maybe they are on the yard. "
The six people hurriedly went on the backyard and there they saw a tent and a bonfire where 3 people are roasting marshmallows.
On the side of the tent is a small tree but the newly arrived people failed to recognize the uniqueness of the tree.
" We thought you went out. " Gil said as he and the rest approached the trio.
" What are you guys doing here? " Uncle Jackson asked Adam.
" You should have informed us if you want to camp Adam. " Anna said shyly.
Among the 6, Anna is the only one who don't call Adam as boss.
Maybe it is because of close age gap but there is a particular reason it is awkward for both side of the term " boss ". In the team, the youngest male is Michael and Anna for the girls. Without any question, Uncle Jackson is the older dude.
" You guys done with the registration? Come join us. " Adam said enthusiastically.
Camping is now one of Adam's favorite. Being cooped up in the hospital for too long, being outside hit him differently. Now that he had a chance to do so, he will take advantage of it.
" We had already finished with registering Abyss Team and with the goods we were able to bring to the base, we were exempted with a lot of unnecessary procedures. Also, the administration knows we have Sir Arthus and you in the team so they basically get everything done fast. "
" So what's with the sudden camping? "
" We are observing this tree. " Jaya said as she points out the growing apple tree on the side.
" This... ? "
The small tree looks ordinary enough that nothing particular can be observed.
" That's a mutated apple tree like the one I'm giving you guys but slightly different. This is a high yielding plants and can produce lots of fruits which will solve some of the food problems. "
" I am planning to cultivate these mutated plants and provide a stable food source in the base. "
" And there's more, this will only take 5 days to mature and have fruits to harvest. "
" Isn't it amazing?! "
