POV Velvet Scarletina
After a couple days on campus, a late arrival to the Academy appeared in the cafeteria. She was a rabbit faunus with long brown hair and brown eyes. It was none other then Velvet Scarletina, a member of Team CFVY (Coffee). Due to falling ill for a while over the summer, she had not come when the upperclassmen first arrived, so her Team was already assigned a mission without her. She could only hope that Coco, Fox, and Yatsuhashi remained safe.
She was pretty depressed with worry as she went to take a seat, not really paying attention to her surroundings a she did.
------
POV Death
When he saw Velvet enter, Death was quite surprised, not expecting to see her until later in the term "Velvet?" he quietly seemed to recognize her.
Presently he was sitting between Ruby and Blake, with the rest of Team RWBY, Team JNPR, Team FAMS and his siblings all clustered at the same table.
"Yeah, that's her." Blake verified and chuckled, he knew Death kept in touch with her, so he knew she was a Beacon Student, but she assumed he hadn't expected to see her so soon since the upper-classmen were all away on missions.
After first year, Beacon Students were primarily trained in the field, returning between jobs for a few days of rest, as well as three times over the year for two weeks of classroom learning to ingrain the many things that they had already learned.
"Are you going to go say hello to her?" Blake asked Death with a grin, well aware that Velvet would be elated to see him.
Death considered Blake's idea, and then nodded before getting up to head towards Velvet's table.
As Death was heading over to Velvet, Cardin and his team suddenly gathered around her and Cardin started yanking on her right rabbit ear while laughing with his teammates.
"Owww, that hurts." Velvet answered.
The laughing and the yanking continued. "Please stop." Velvet asked
Death had sped up when he saw Cardin and his teammates acting out, and when Cardin went to speak, suddenly the metal barrel of Ebony was shoved into Cardin's mouth "You like bullying girls, do you Cardin?" he asked coldly "Let go of her before I have to splatter your brain matter all over the cafeteria. It's not like you need a brain, since you never use it anyway, do you, Cardin?. If you used it then why would you try to bully an upper classmen who could kick your asses if you pushed her too far?"
Cardin, while terrified, finally let go of Velvet's ear, and Death chose that moment to make Ebony disappear "Good boy, Cardin. Now, if I hear about you bullying anyone else, I will come and kick your ugly sorry ass, you got it?" grabbing Cardin by the neck, Death casually threw him across the cafeteria to crash to the ground near the exit.
The rest of his team, in terror, fled, exiting the cafeteria along with Cardin. "Hello Velvet." Death said and then turned a smile towards the rabbit faunus.
"Death." Velvet jumped up from her seat and hugged him.
Death hugged Velvet as well and found she smelled very nice, like freshly cut grass, along with a subtle perfume that had flowery scent. When he thought about it, Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang also had scents which were pleasant to him, but the grass-like aroma he got from Velvet seemed unique.
"Are you smelling me?" Velvet asked, blushing and somewhat surprised.
"Fresh cut grass." Death noted "Sorry, the smell surprised me a bit, but it's really nice." he complimented her "So, how have you been doing, Velvet?"
"Oh....Well....I....Umm..." Velvet blushed even more intensely after hearing him say that she smelled really nice "Better now that I get to see you again in person."
Death chuckled "How about you pick up your tray and come sit with my friends and I?" Death offered to Velvet before parting from the hug. Velvet nodded, accepting his invitation, and followed him over to the others, and introduced her to each of them, even the ones she had met before, just to not exclude anyone. Also it was possible that she might have forgotten one of their names, so it seemed a reasonable thing to do regardless
They chatted with each other and were quite friendly until lunch ended and Velvet had no class in the afternoon, so Death created a body double to hang out with Velvet while the others were headed to their afternoon combat class with Professor Goodwitch.
There first few combat classes they had completed drills and were given some pointers, but today was to be their first opportunity to dual other students. Knowing that, Death was not surprised to see Pyrrha approach him.
"I want to fight you today." Pyrrha declared to challenge Death..
Death chuckled in amusement "I don't mind." he agreed "You've had a couple years to grow stronger since I last fought you I am also curious about fighting you as well."
"Thank you." Pyrrha seemed genuinely relieved that he agreed, since she had feared he would reject the idea completely
Death, though, was aware of the way that Pyrrha had been looking at him and felt that after he had beat her in the Mistral regional tournament two years and a couple months ago, that she seemed to have a crush on him. Since he was already forming a harem anyway, he figured that he may as well play along with her wishes and see where things led too.
If he did end up in a relationship with Velvet or Pyrrha then he was determined to treat them both well, along with his other girlfriends. He was starting to suspect that there was some Harem aspect to his system, and that he was gradually being nudged in the harem direction, but if that was true them he certainly did not mind it. How could he after that night with Team RWBY?
Entering combat class, everyone took their seats with their teammates, and waited until Professor Goodwitch asked for volunteers who wanted to fight Both Pyrrha and Death volunteered.
Death decided not to wait for Pyrrha to challenge him, and promptly agreed to be her opponent. It had been more then two years since they had last fought, so he was curious about how much stronger she had grown.
------
POV Pyrrha Nikos
In her heart, Pyrrha was feeling quite worried. She had been working hard for over two years preparing for this rematch, and she felt she was much stronger then she was the last time that they had fought, but he was probably stronger then he was then as well.
If Pyrrha had been at her current level a bit over two years prior, Pyrrha thought that she could have beaten him, but if he had any substantial growth, as she suspected he would have, since then, she was likely to still lose. Her main source of hope that she might have a chance was the fact that he hadn't joined any other tournaments since that day, so it was possible that he might have neglected his training or he might be overconfident.
Realistically, Pyrrha knew that her chance of winning was very small, but her pride made her have too try!
"I wont go easy on you just because you are beautiful. Good luck, Pyrrha." she heard Death say, which caused her to frown.
They both were in position for the match, so Professor Goodwitch announced the start of it.
------
POV Death
Death, as he had warned, did not hold back in terms of skill, though he did not draw out a weapon either, considering that all his weapons were able to easily penetrate aura, and he could accidentally hurt her badly. Death rather liked Pyrrha's character and definitely would not let her die if he had a say in the matter!
"I thought you were not going to hold back?" Pyrrha asked while dodging punches.
"I don't want to kill you. I didn't bring a special weapon that wont easily slice through your aura today." Death admitted to Pyrrha "So I'm using my fists, but don't underestimate me since I've trained with Yang plenty." his fists kept coming at her, becoming swifter and swifter as he probed Pyrrha's defenses while dodging her sword.
The class was quite surprised since Pyrrha was wielding weapons and Death was not, but he was gracefully and seemingly effortlessly dodging her strikes while it appeared that his strikes were getting harder and harder for Pyrrha to dodge.
With Death not holding or wearing any metal at the moment, Pyrrha could not use her semblance to turn things into her favor, and his attributes were simply higher then hers.
When Death finally managed to hit her once, that was basically the end of the fight, since the first punch was followed up by many more in rapid succession, until her aura was shattered and Pyrrha was thrown back, hard, blasted out of the ring.
Death Teleported immediately and appeared in Pyrrha's path, easily catching her in a bridal carry position before she could crash into anything and get hurt..
"You've gotten a lot stronger." Pyrrha muttered before passing out.
Death immediately started healing Pyrrha. Her injuries were minor, but he sure wasn't going to leave a pretty girl to suffer, even if it would have only been extremely minor. Her biggest issue was fatigue. From what he could tell, she probably hadn't slept much the previous evening, likely due to knowing she was going to challenge him today.
"Nicely done, Mr. Rose" Glynda Goodwitch, who had been about to catch Pyrrha with her telekinesis, was nevertheless fine with him catching her, since she didn't want any of her students to really get hurt. While she could have been there to catch Pyrrha, she was not able to be everywhere, so it seemed like a good habit to encourage. "Would you be so kind as to take Miss Nikos to the infirmary?" Professor Goodwitch asked Death.
"Certainly, I don't mind" Death agreed and started carrying Pyrrha out of the classroom, ignoring that most of the class that hadn't known him or his siblings for years, were still gawking at him shocked by how overwhelmingly strong he was.
They all thought that Pyrrha was strong and agile, but next to Death she'd seemed almost like a slug.
------
Following that class, the rest of the first semester started flying by uneventfully. Death kept an eye on the news around Vale for any dust robberies, but they did not start until a three weeks before the first half of the school year was set to come to an end, and they became quite prolific, robbing eight to ten shops each night with the cooperation of the Bloody Fang, with fifty-four robberies in the first six days.
Prior to those robberies starting, though, at least Death could enjoy a nice time with his girlfriends, which now included Velvet. Since Velvet often was away for various missions, Death tried to give her special attention when she was around, and he tried to also have individual dates with each of his girlfriends, followed up by bringing them back to his room for a little one on one fun time.
As amazing as it had felt to experience being with the four RWBY girls at the same time with the intermediary of avatars, it was also quite nice one at a time as well. While the pleasure wasn't as overwhelming, it was more intimate and nice in it's own way, because he felt like it let each of his five girlfriends feel more special
He had only used body doubles in that way one more time in the first semester to help his five beautiful girlfriends unwind after the end of the first half of the first semesters testing period, with the maximum number of body doubles he could make increasing to nine, and the maximum distance his clones could be from him increasing to 5120 miles, so with two more levels in that and he could literally send them to anywhere in Remnant. One more level was sufficient to have body doubles in all four kingdom capitals plus Menagerie so long as the real him was in or near Vale.
Death had used his Body Doubles plenty over the past couple months, but gained the most growth in it the two times he was with the girls using it, though even then he still made sure to personally participate as much as possible..
The other thing that Death had been waiting for was the arrival of the boat with the first batch of students coming for the Vytal Festival Tournament. After six days of robberies, the day had finally arrived, but unlike in the canon, Weiss never expressed any interest in coming to observe them, so Death left a body double to hang out with Weiss, Blake, and Yang, and he headed to town, dragging Ruby along with him, planning to meet Penny.
He didn't care if they met Sun, since Blake was his girlfriend and he certainly wasn't going to let him easily meet her, but Ruby meeting Penny was something that he felt was necessary, so naturally he convinced Ruby to come along and headed to town looking for Penny, while sending out his remaining body doubles to locate her so that he could more easily arrange to accidentally cross paths with her.
"Death, why did you want to come out tonight?" Ruby asked, slightly blushing as they walked together.
"It may sound a bit crazy, but when I watched you prior to coming down to Remnant, today was the day that you met an important friend in Vale, a girl named Penny." Death admitted "I guess the presence of my siblings and I changed things, because originally Weiss would have dragged team RWBY to the docks to spy on the students coming in from Vacuo and Mistral today to have an advantage in the upcoming tournament, and during this trip you would have met Penny."
"I see." Ruby smiled and nodded "Since this friend was important to me, you want me to still meet her, even though Weiss didn't decide to come to do that."
Death nodded and smiled "Of course, there is no guaranteeing that she will be here or we will run into her, since potentially the butterfly effect has spread out and affect her as well."
"Butterfly affect? What's that?" Ruby asked with confusion.
"It's a theory from my original world" Death insisted and grasped Ruby's hand as they walked "Maybe something equivalent exists in Remnant, as I haven't looked into it before, but basically the theory suggests that if you could go back in time and make a tiny change, such as accidentally killing something as simple as a butterfly, then overtime the ripples may spread out and cause large changes, causing you to return to a completely different world when you return to your own time."
"How can killing a poor butterfly cause that?" Ruby asked while they walked.
"Alternately, the butterfly effect is described as s single flap of a butterflies wings eventually causing a tornado." Death chuckled "The point is, that by even coming to Remnant, some things may have changed, even if it wasn't directly caused by me or my siblings."
He then smiled because one of his body doubles spotted Penny "One of my body doubles spotted her, so we can go meet her now."
With a grin and an arm kept around Ruby's waist, he brought her in the direction to meet Penny.
A couple minutes later, Death brought Ruby around a corner and saw a girl with short orange hair approaching them from the opposite direction.
" "Hello friend." " Death and Ruby both greeted her as they met on the sidewalk.
"My name is Penny, it is a pleasure to meet you" Penny greeted them both.
"I'm Ruby" Ruby smiled at Penny as she greeted the girl.
"My name is Death." Death greeted her as well.
"It's a pleasure to meet you" Penny said again.
"You already said that Penny" Death chuckled, amused that that much hadn't changed from this meeting, so he happily filled in Weiss's role of pointing that out.
"So I did." Penny agreed cheerfully "Did you mean it when you called me....friend? Am I really your friend?" she asked the pair.
"Of course." Ruby answered without any hesitation, since she trusted Death that she was an important friend in the future.
"I mean it too, Penny. In fact, we came looking for you to specifically befriend you. The benefit of a little future knowledge." Death explained to her "I knew we were destined to meet you and become good friends."
"Sen-sational!" Penny said happily "That's an amazing semblance."
"So, are you from Vale, or somewhere else? Death didn't tell me other then that you're a good person." Ruby explained to Penny excitedly.
"I've come from Atlas to fight in the tournament." Penny insisted "I'm combat ready" she gave a salute emotively as she declared that.
------
After speaking a while, Penny eventually had to go, but Death got Penny to agree to meet them on Sunday. With Roman Torchwick and the Bloody Fangs now actively robbing dust shops, Death felt that they might appear on Sunday
