Bab 226: C226 Salazar

Once everyone dispersed and returned to their normal business, Tom and the Ancient One were left standing there alone in the courtyard.
The Ancient One couldn't keep the smile off of her face as she watched Tom stood rooted to the ground with the dumbest expression she's seen from him.
In fact, her vacation wasn't truly an entirely self-serving one. She wanted to give Tom a chance to show the people of Kamar-Taj that he has what it takes to be the next Sorcerer Supreme.
If the Ancient One just made him her successor, many would protest and infighting would spark.
Tom is young and inexperienced, but he's probably the strongest person on this planet and will continue to grow stronger with time.
The problem is that these people didn't know much about him, so she staged her vacation in order to show the Master of Kamar-Taj that Tom has what it takes, at least in the administrative department, to take her place.
If and when the attack from the Dark Dimension happens, they will learn of his strength as well. Making Tom the perfect successor in her opinion.
"Surprised?" The Ancient One asks with a cunning smile.
"... You did this on purpose, didn't you?" Tom asks as he starts putting two and two together.
"Maybe..." She says as her smirk widens.
"What about Doctor Strange?" Tom asks with a quirked eyebrow.
"Remember what I told you that day?" She says with a far-off look in her eye. "I said I would put my hopes on you, not the future I've been working towards. The first step of that is this. You will be the Sorcerer Supreme, but that doesn't mean we can't take in Doctor Strange. He is a rare talent after all."
"Huh, so we just make him a normal Master or what?" Tom asks questioningly.
"Well, if you want to, you can make him an elder or some other high-level sounding title." The Ancient One says with a shrug.
"That might work..." Tom muttered as he thought it all over. "Thanks, Mom..."
Tom never thought that he would have this position. He knew that his mother favored the future she's been planning for since forever, but now she's starting to let go of that.
"Of course, Son. My hopes are on you."

After getting his new position of successor to her grand baldness, Tom left Kamar-Taj as fast as he could.
He could feel that his mother would be pushing some of her work to him in the name of 'practice for the future', and Tom already has a million other things to do.
'That's definitely something she would do...' Tom thought as he made his swift escape.
Hiding out in one of his many properties, Tom started experimenting with the two founders' relics he has.
Starting with the cup, Tom tried anything he could think of that pertained to well... a cup.
After trying a few things, like pouring certain liquids in and seeing what happens, Tom found that the effects of potions drunk from the cup are heightened by around 50%.
Meaning, if Tom lost a lot of blood and drank a blood replenishment potion from the cup, the blood would replenish an extra 50% faster, which would definitely come in handy during emergency situations.
That could easily be the difference between life and death for some people.
Moving on to the locket, Tom wasn't sure how to test it. It's just a locket after all.
He's worn it for about a day and a half now and hasn't felt anything from it the entire time, so that leaves out any sort of passive boon it could give.
This means it probably has to be activated somehow unless it's just a locket and Salazar never did anything magical to it...
Not giving up, Tom tried anything he could think of from pushing magic into the locket to trying to activate it with English and Parseltongue commands.
Everything he tried failed, which caused him to give up and summon the ghost that the locket originally belonged to.
This would be his second time summoning Salazar Slytherin.
'Hopefully, he doesn't hold a grudge about the last time...' Tom thought with a small chuckle.
Mentally calling forth the spirit of his ancestor from the afterlife with his deathly powers, the bald-headed man appears before him once again.
"Huh?" He grunts as he spots Tom standing in front of him. "You again?!"
Seeing his reaction, Tom thought that maybe he should have been nicer in their last meeting. First impressions are important after all.
"Yes, it's me. How've you been old man?" Tom asks.
"I've been great. Just spending eternity in a grueling and boring afterlife. What do you want?" He asks guardedly.
"Straight to the point, huh?" Tom mutters as he holds out the locket that once belonged to him. "What does this do? The other founder's relics have some sort of function, but I can't figure this one out."
"Why should I tell you anything?" Salazar asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Because if you help me, I will upgrade you to a more pleasant afterlife, and if you don't, I'll send you to a more torturous one." Tom says with his hand on his chin in a thinking motion.
Carrot and the stick. Help and you get rewarded. Don't help and you get punishment.
"Haha, as if you could control where my afterlife is!" He laughed openly at Tom's answer.
"Hmm, it seems you'll need some proof before believing me..."
