Bab 46: Ch.46 Bitter Pill to swallow...
[General POV]
O'Connell opened up a crude map on the table. While pointing to various locations he said, "Following this river, we will get off the ship by noon tomorrow. Then we will walk west for about half a day, and reach the biggest, and only, oasis on the way to Hamunaptra."
"That's also the place for merchants to exchange items. We will buy the camels and supplies then. After that, we will go southwest, and we should reach it after three days and nights if there are no accidents"
"Evelyn asked, Accidents? What accidents?"
[Flash Back]
When Zheng and his group joined, Kris, Felicity, Evelyn and Jonathan at the ship's private Dinner hall that Kris booked for them, O'Connell ask them to gather around an empty table to show them the course of their travel.
[Flash Back End]
Which brings as to the scene where Evelyn's dumb founded expression could be seen as...
O'Connell suddenly threw his bag on the table and opened it up. The bag was filled with handguns, rifles, and bullets. Enough for every one of them.
Evelyn was shocked to say the least. "I, Did I mistake something? We are here for an expedition right? Or, are we here for a war?"
"Lady, that place isn't safe. There's something under the tomb, and it was guarded by a mysterious group, It is literally the city of the dead."
Kris chimed in, "Which is why those aren't enough."
Felicity secretly took out from her magic bag, a small crate of WW I grenades, and placed it behind her.
When Kris gestured towards her, she step aside, and showed the crate to the group.
Evelyn immediately turned to Zheng. Didn't you say you will protect us? I only want those two books, you can take everything else. Even though my brother believes there are treasures. I dont think you will actually find gold.
Zheng nodded. I told you we are only here for exploration. We are not interested in anything else but you seem to be familiar with those two books.
Evelyn replied excitedly, "Of course, the legendry Book of Amun-Ra, also called the golden book of revival, and the Book of the Dead. These two books contained ancient Egyptian spells. They made me fall in love with Egypt"
Honglu interrupted her suddenly, "What time is it?"
They were taken aback for a moment. Zheng looked at his watch and said, "Ten oclock." He paused and saw Honglu nod.
[Kris's POV]
He saw Honglu nod at Zheng, knowing that this was the kid's way of reminding Zheng about the plot. Lan surely have told them how the events will unfold.
Kris then looked at Zheng's face, evident that he just remembered something.
Which he should because the Medjai is about to attack the boat to get the key. But, they will be disappointed 'cause the key is not with Evelyn anymore.
Felicity bonded with Evelyn during their dinner at the hotel, and talk about mystery novels, and how the damsel's always have something the villains want.
Following this line of thought, Felicity manage to convinced Evelyn to send the puzzle box away, to her flat in London.
When she did sent it off the next morning, Kris intercepted it, and the key was now safely kept in Felicity's magical bag.
[Genral POV]
Zheng began to order everyone around after getting his epiphany.
"Evelyn, go get the ke- go get the map and that puzzle box."
Evelyn frowned, and crossed her arms interupting Zheng," If what you're worried about is the puzzle box being stolen, then, don't. The puzzle box is now on its way to London. I sent it away to keep it safe."
Everybody was shocked of her declaration, and look at her with wide eyes. Evelyn felt the scene was getting awkward so she said, "What!! I'm a librarian!!, I just don't arrange books all day... I read Sherlock Holmes too!"
Kris just began to chuckle, and said" She really is a smart girl!!"
Zheng frowned at Kris's words knowing, He had just blatantly change the plot.
So, he told Zero and Jie."Go protect her."
"O'Connell, come find Jonathan with me."
[Kris's POV]
Kris told Zheng, "He's probably still playing poker with the Americans. Ever since you gave him that gold nugget, He's been itching to make more of it. But, I bet he's already lost it by now."
"No offense Evie, I'm your brother's friend but, the guy can't even win a bet, much more gamble."
"None taken." Evelyn looked at him, and shook her head.
"Felicity dear, why don't we get our luggage, and find a boat. I feel that this plesant cruise will be cut short."
"Evelyn why don't you come along, and point out which is yours. I'll carry it for you. Don't worry about your escorts, they'll be happy to follow."
Jie just looked at Zero, and rolled his eyes at Kris's words, for painting them out as man servants. But, still picked up the crate full of grenades and followed along.
[Scene Break]
After getting their luggage and killing a couple of Medjai's along the way Kris, Felicity, Evelyn and Jie was safely riding on a small boat towards the shore. Zero decided to help the others, after he saw Zheng and O'Connel exchanging gun fire at the would be assassins.
By the time, the ship was on fire they've already made it to the shore, and was watching the rest of their group get out of the water.
Kris smiled and said, "Cold night for a swim ain't it guys?!"
The sonorus groans, could only describe the groups bitter feelings at the moment.
Then a shout from opposite the river was heard.
"O'Connell! Hey, O'Connell! Haha, it looks like you have it rough. The horses are all on this side. Haha!"
"Hey, Beni. Looks like you are on the wrong side of the river. Haha..."
[Scene Break]
Kris and the rest of the groups trek towards the oasis went without a hitch.
After seeing that the oasis is not that far away, Kris ask Felicity to land the Flying Car near some tents.
[Newbies POV]
While Felicity was maintaining control of the Flying Car, the newbies were just sitting back, and enjoying the ride.
But, the constant view of an arid desert was getting boring. So, when they felt the car was about to land they were excited.
When the car landed, and the invisibility was turned off. Zhuiyu was the first to get off, she wanted to look for a rest room and stormed into some tents.
They weren't worried of getting left behind, due to the drone that's constantly keeping an eye on them.
Heng also got off the car to stretch his legs, the only one left in the car was Hongliang the computer programmer, Being unable to withstand the desert heat he opted to stay in the car.
Heng took the bow they have purchased in the market the other day, and told, Hongliang that he'll be practicing with the bow.
Being a sub for the olympic archery team, Heng knows his way with a bow. Taking shots at a palm tree not far from the Flying Car, He saw Kris and Felicity approach him.
"You're not half bad with that bow, I'm glad your taking time to get use to the long bow. But, that's not why I'm here." said Kris
"I wanted to ask you, since you're one of the newbies that actually have a skill the could be used in a fight."
"When we get to Hamunaptra I'll be sending Zhuiyu and Hongliang to a safe place to wait out the end of the movie. So I'm asking, If you would like to join Zheng, and the others?"
"I'll be vouching for your ability to keep up with the group, and have an actual chance at gaining some points. So, what will your choice be?" Kris asked
Heng hesitated but, grip his fist and said, "I would like to stay, and give it a chance." He answered.
"Ok. But, just to warn you; we are expecting another team to appear soon, and there's going to be a fight."
"You must not have, noticed it. But, when we got to our apartment on the first day. We received a message thru the black watch on our wrist saying we have a negative score, and were subtracted points because of the bald guys death. 2000pts to be exact."
"Zheng and the others will definitely engauge the other team to win back points, and so will I."
"My goal is to eliminate the other team completely as it would eliminate the possibility of getting erased by god."
"Back in God's dimension a golden tablet with information about this team battle exist, and it states..."
"That killing a member from another team will reward 2000 points and a rank C reward. Killing a member that had unlocked the genetic constraint will reward 7000 points and a rank B reward. Eliminating the whole team will reward every member 1000 points and a rank C reward."(A/N: last part's a lie)
"So, If we eliminate the other team the newbiew will get 1000pts and a C rank reward, and that to 1000pts basic reward from the movie mission. No body will be erased."(A/N: Lies all Lies!)
"I'll be informing the other two as well."
Unknown to Kris(Wink.Wink!) Zhuiyu and Hongliang approached them.
By the time Kris concluded his explanation. A voice was heard from behind.
"No need we have heard enough." Said Zhuiyu
"I've already decided to go to the safe place you mentioned. I've seen the message back in the hotel when, I got down the stage after the song. I tried to wipe the sweat of my forehead. That's when I saw the notification."
"I almost couldn't sleep because of it; but, you seemed to care of our well being so, I calm down after you told us to stay in the invisible car. So, you don't have to say anything." Hongliang nodded to Zhuiyu's words.
"So, its decided only Heng will stay." everyone affirmed
[Kris POV]
When Zheng, and the others finish bartering for camels plus some supplies they needed. The newbies boarded the Flying Car again.
While Kris and Felicity were walking back to the group. Felicity asked, "Are you sure this is alright? they might not be able to fight, or protect themselves against whats coming. But, we still had shared some good times with them."
"I know, but for now, we can't afford to stir the pot too much. I can't believe that a day will come that I will say these words but..."
"IT'S.FOR.THE.GREATER.GOOD."
Felicity could only sigh...
