He wasn't expecting to find him inside the cave, as that would be just too convenient for him, but he was hoping for his traces to be warm, and to find a trace of his presence.

Once he managed to find a trace of that guy's presence then he would be able to easily discover him in these Senkaku Islands.

After his evolving to Realm 2, Eric's spirit sense had increased quite a bit, as now he was able to easily cover the surroundings up to a 1.3 kilometer's radius.
