Her face brightened at my words.
"Ah, you're right. What matters is the present. Haaah... It is such a pity though. If only I could fix it? Can one do that?"
My head tilted to the side.
"Fix it?"
"Can memories be healed? It's not a wound though... Well, I don't know since I can't use my magic anymore," she mumbled.
"You can't?" I was surprised.
That's right, my mother can use magic too, I forgot about it.
Her lips set into a firm line, looking somber all of a sudden. She then touched the front of her chest in shame.

Helen then pulled the neckline of her dress to show it, what's she has been hiding all this time. On her chest was an obvious scar, looking almost like a star inked on her flesh.
I stared at it dumbfounded.
"What is that...?"
"I think they took my mana core."
