The truth about the past is getting clearer and Rose is happy to know she is almost at the end of the way.
FORTY-FIVE
"I can't believe that there is a person who is so evil, cruel, despicable, terrible, vicious...Iri, help me with more synonyms," Lily ranted.
"Hostile" Iris complied after rolling her eyes.
"Yes, Hostile. Like who in the world would kill your childhood friend? That's just some messed up shit!!" She gulped down her juice and pushed her blonde strands out of her face.
We are in our house and I told them everything I found out yesterday because I knew it wasn't a conversation to have on the phone.
I took the excuse of seeing my nonexistent grandmother to come out of the mansion.
"At least we are getting somewhere now. We've found out the reason she killed our mother" Iris let out.
"Yeah, Mother and Father were from wealthy families. Miss Helda said that the Bladderworts were the reason behind their bankruptcy" I ran my fingers down the cold glass of juice that was on the table.
"She is my bane of existence," Lily groaned as she slumped down the couch dramatically.
"It's weird to know that Miss Helda was the one who named me. I always knew she was a nice woman" Iris smiled.
"She hid the truth. If she had reported Avalor, maybe our father would have still been with us" I spurt out with annoyance.
"Hey, not everyone is perfect. She was scared back then and Avalor is just like her daughter, I understand why she did what she did" Iris argued and I rolled my eyes.
"This is about a person's life. Covering up won't help anyone, not even the murderer herself"
"Sometimes you do the worse things just to protect the ones you love," Iris said with a knowing tone.
"Enough with that. Come take a look at this" I brought out the picture from my bag and they leaned closer to take a look.
I moved back to take a look at each of their expressions.
Lily's eyes were filled with awe, she gasped out and used her hand to cover her mouth as tears began to fall from her eyes.
Iris had an indifferent look as usual but I have known her long enough to differentiate her expressions. The look she had was a gaze of deep understanding and respect. Deep down, I knew she was marveled at the beauty of our parents.
"This is beautiful" Lily choked out.
"They were stunning beside each other" Iris said as she held her tears back.
"Doesn't it feels weird?" I asked.
"I mean, we were used to always seeing father alone and dejected. Although he smiled like sunshine but thinking about it now, I realized that most of his smiles were just a facade for us. It was just a mask for us to not see through his loneliness. But look at him..." I pointed at the young man in the photo.
"He looked like he had the world in his hands," I said wistfully.
Lily lay on my lap and held the photo in her hand and we all stared at it in silence as though we were conveying all that couldn't be said in the short time we had together.
Dear Mother,
Although I never got to see you, I still feel your presence everywhere I go, Father made sure that I never once passed a day without thinking of you.
I know you were loving, caring, inspirational, and gentle. I know that when I fell from my first horse ride, you would have wiped off my tears and encouraged me to try again.
I know that when I started school for the first time, you would have held my hands and never let go.
I know that you were always beside father when he sang us the lullaby he made up.
I know you loved us unconditionally.
I love you too.
Dear Father,
You were the reckoning force during our hard times.
Instead of you mourning the death of your life partner for a bit longer, you took the burden of three children all by yourself.
You never once showed us weakness, you never once gave us a reason to complain. You were the best father a child could ever ask for.
You made it possible for us to grow up and be independent and proud of ourselves. You gave up on your life and instead took it upon yourself to provide for us.
Your efforts were never put to fail.
I know you must be up in heaven, watching us and without a doubt, proud of us.
Your smile still attacks my dreams every night.
Your love is still buried in my heart.
I love you.
I opened my eyes and when I looked into their eyes, I knew they were smiling at me.

After greeting the receptionist, I walked down the familiar hallway and stopped before the room I was headed to.
I gripped the doorknob tighter than I should and my knuckles turned white as I deliberated whether to turn back or not.
Miss Helda said a nurse came out of Mother's room, looking frightened. That could only mean she witnessed something and the nurse said that Matilda kept on repeating my birth date.
So it could only mean one thing,
She knows something.
And I'm about to find out.
I decided and opened the door. It was just as I remembered it, simple and delicate. The only difference was that this time, there was a person on the bed.
"Matilda?" I called out and this time she looked up at me.
"Hi!" she said in a chirpy voice and I took that as an invitation.
"Hello, you seem to be in a good mood today" I sat on the chair beside her bed.
"Yes, aunt bought me lots of chocolate so Matilda is happy" she grinned like a small child.
"That's very good. Now, I will give you more chocolates if you answer my questions" I said with an amicable voice.
"Really?" she tilted her head.
"Yeah. I just have a few questions and the chocolates are yours" I grinned as she took in the bait.
"OK!!!" she nodded vigorously.
"Alright. Now, I'm going to show you some numbers and you have to tell what the numbers are, OK?" I took out my phone.
"OK"
"Now, what number is this?" I showed her a huge number.
"Twenty!!" she yelled quickly.
"Wowww!!! Matilda is so brilliant" I clapped my hands enthusiastically.
"Okay, now you're going to tell me what date it is," I said and typed out the date.
"20th May 2000!!!" she read and bounced on the bed.
"That's amazing!!! Now, do you remember what day that was?" I asked and she looked at me with confusion.
"Think. A hospital, inside a room, a lady with black hair and blue eyes" I urged.
Matilda suddenly covered her ears with her hands and shook her head as though she was denying the truth.
"No! Stop, let her go!! Don't do that... Please" she began to scream hysterically.
"Matilda, calm down. It's okay, nobody is here except me" I tried to calm her down and after a few minutes, she removed her hands from her ears and looked around the room.
"See? No one is here" I nodded.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I mumbled.
"Matilda wants to go to bed. Read me a story" she climbed out of her bed and dropped a book on my hands.
"NOW!" she demanded and I sighed.
"Okay. Lie down" I said dejectedly.
I began to read her the storybook as quietly as I could. She lay on her bed while looking up at the ceiling.
"She took a single rose..."
"Rose" she whispered something.
"What, Matilda?" I asked.
"Rose" she repeated louder.
"You like Rose?" I smiled.
"Rose's and Avalor's babies were switched on 20th May 2000"
Just the way the book fell from my hand, my heart also fell in a deep pit and for the very first time, I was afraid it was going to be hard to revive it.
*dodges the items thrown and hide in a corner*
Calm down, people.
Ok, you don't need to throw your shoe too.
Alright, I know you must be shocked, marveled, and whatever synonym that is out there but please don't kill me. This book is not done and is far from the end so stay tuned and see what this wicked teenager has in store for you.
Vote if you want a quicker update!!!!
bye,

Rose meets up with her sisters and tells them about the event of yesterday. She goes to see Matilda again and this time, she wasn't leaving empty-handed.
FORTY-SIX
"Rose's and Avalor's babies were switched on 20th May 2000," she said as her grey eyes were far off.
"W-what?" I stuttered out in a daze and my heartbeats became too loud that I could hear it in my eardrums.
"W-what are you...saying?" I whispered and clutched the chair with my sweaty hands.
"Rose's baby was a beautiful girl just like Avalor's but they were switched in the hospital," she said and a single tear dropped from her eye.
"Oh, God" I spurt out as I slowly got up from the chair.
I don't know how my legs carried me out of the room and through the hallway but all I know is that the sun was burning my skin as I walked out of the gate.
I couldn't register anything in my head. What Matilda just said, I didn't understand.
It can't be possible, it just can't.
How could I possibly be the daughter of the woman who killed my father? No! No! That's not possible.
It's not true.
I heard a screeching sound coming from somewhere but my brain was too occupied to care.
"Hey! Are you insane?! How could you walk in front of a moving car like that?!" I heard a man saying but I didn't pay a single attention to him as my head was ringing.
Before I knew it, I fell on the pavement. I couldn't take it anymore. I brought my fist to hit my chest as I felt the familiar sensation of doom taking over my heart.
No! I am not the daughter of Avalor Bladderwort.
Miss Helda...
She would know.
I abruptly stood up and walked away without answering the young lady who was concerned about me.
I walked down the streets and hopped into a cab. My fingers were tangled and my bottom lip quivered as my head was reeling with denial and pain.
As soon as I got into the mansion, I walked into the kitchen, searching for Miss Helda.
"How's your grandma?" Violet who was by the counter asked.
"Where's Miss Helda?" I ignored her question.
"Uh, in her room..." she frowned.
I walked to the maid quarters and barged into her room, forgetting about the courtesy of knocking.
"Tell me I'm not her daughter!!!" I exclaimed as I entered and she looked up from her book.
"Excuse me?" she asked in confusion.
"Tell me I'm not Avalor's daughter, please..." I bit my lip to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall.
"How...Who told you that?" the dreaded look on her face didn't appease my anxiety.
"I met with the nurse that was in charge of my mother that day and...and s-she said the babies were switched. Regina and I were switched?!" I ran my hands through my hair.
"Rose, calm down. I didn't tell you yesterday because I thought it wasn't important" she took off her reading glasses.
"Wasn't important? How the hell is telling me I am the daughter of a murderer not important?! How?" I cried out.
"Lower your voice. Do you want the girls to find out?" she hissed.
"Sit down," she said and I grudgingly sat on the chair opposite her.
"It was after your mother was killed..." I didn't want to listen but I forced myself to.
"The doctors ran a few tests on Avalor's baby and they found out her heart was failing and they predicted she wouldn't live till five years of age. Avalor was devastated but most of all, she was scared. She knew that if Brad's father found out about it, he would be livid and demand the baby to be killed.
"So before Brad's parents got there, she ordered a nurse to take her baby and switch it with another baby"
"T-that baby was... me?" I whimpered.
"No," she said and I looked up at her.
"Yes, the nurse did change you with Avalor's baby but I changed you back and put another baby in your place. After what happened to your mother, I couldn't let something like that happen to you" she let out.
I brought out a huge breath of relief and my entire body relaxed.
"Thank God..." I breathed out.
"Do you hate her so much that even the thought of being related to her creeps you out?" she asked.
The glare I shot in her direction made her look away from me.
"Do you even listen to yourself? I hate that woman with every single cell in my body, in fact, I abhor her!" I raved.
"If I were ever her daughter, I will cut my own throat rather than call her my mother"
"But..."
"But what? But what?! I should forgive her for what she did? I should forget the sins she committed? Is that what you're trying to say?" I stood up from the chair.
"Even if I were to die, I would spend my last breath cursing her entire generation!!" I spat out harshly.
"She had a reason to hate your mother-"
"Are you seriously defending her right now?! She is a monster, a monster that didn't think twice before throwing her daughter out of her life!" I ranted out of anger.
"She..."
"Save it!" I walked out of the room before she could complete her sentence.
I'm not in the mood to listen to gibberish today.
I am feeling so upset and I just longed for someone's company.
I knew just who to go to.
*****
I slowly turned the doorknob as I stealthily entered the room after making sure no one is around the hallway.
I saw him sitting on his desk with his back towards me as he rapidly tapped the keyboard and a sneaky smile rushed into my lips.
With my best sneaking skills, I walked slowly towards him without making a single sound.
He hummed a light tone and bounced his head as his entire focus was on his laptop.
"Hey, baby boy!" I wrapped my hands around his shoulders and he jolted up with a fright.
"God, you scared the poop out of me!" he exclaimed and held his heart as I laughed at his face.
"Ha, ha. Real funny" he said with a flat face.
"What are you so engrossed in that you didn't even hear me opening the door?" I smiled.
"I was working," he said and pointed to the laptop.
"Yeah, I can see that" I taunted and ruffled his hair when I saw a girl in a bikini on his tab.
"Stupid ad!" he cursed and quickly removed the page.
My laughter filled the air and I felt instantly refreshed, the incident of this morning vanishing from my head gradually.
"What?" I implored as he was staring at me with a small smile.
"You came into my room willingly, everything okay?" he raised a question.
"Does something has to be wrong before I can see you?" I crossed my arms and raised my eyebrows but the smile was still planted on my lips.
"Technically, no. Just asking so I can watch out for any incoming danger" he shrugged.
"Oh, I may have to tell the sniper in the other building to hold the trigger" I rolled my eyes and he snickered.
"I'm glad you came to see me" he drew me forward and I settled on his lap.
"I missed you" he smiled and wrapped his hands on my waist.
"I did too" I used my finger to trace his bottom lips and he let out a shaky breath.
"I missed your voice" I trailed my hands over his lips.
"I missed your smile" I ran my hands over his cheekbones.
"I missed your strong arms" I brushed his arms.
"I missed you" I wrapped my hands on his neck and leaned closer.
As I was about to enclose my lips with his, we heard the screech of the door opening and in a second, I flew out of his arms and straightened my uniform.
"Didn't I tell you to get my clothes from the dry cleaner?! Why haven't you still got it?!" he yelled and I jumped back a little for the effect.
"I'm... I'm sorry sir" I lowered my head to mask the laughter that was rumbling in my stomach.
I looked at Francesca that was standing by the door, holding a glass of juice in her hands and her eyes were diverting between Chris and me.
I motioned for her to just leave because he is very angry and she stepped out of the room after giving me a pitiful look.
We went in complete silence for some seconds after she left. We then looked at each other and it wasn't long before I was on the floor, laughing so hard and holding my stomach.
And just like that, he made my day.
Oh, I'm fluttering in a pond of bubbles. I got you there, didn't I?
*smiles a not so innocent smile*
Well, it would have been a pretty good twist if Rose was Avalor's daughter but that was never part of the plan, sad to say.
Who needs a packet of Chris's cuteness?!
I do!!!!
