Bab 16: Division of Power
The Arrancar in question was sitting down in the throne room waiting for the duo to arrive back in Las Noches to give the report, this was the first true field operation and Espada has done in the world of the living so everything needed to be reviewed. The other Espada and their Faccion were present as well, seated in positions around the throne room befitting of their ranks.
Layla's Faccion consisted of 2 Arrancar, Coyote Starrk and Lilynette Gingerbuck. Nel had her original 3 plus Yammy Llargo, While Hexxius just had Baraggan Louisenbairn, the former king of Hueco Mundo. Therefore, these 3 Espada sat closest to the throne.
Ulquiorra and Zommari arrived in the throne room shortly after they left the world of the living, "After evaluating the Soul reaper in question, I have deemed him nothing more than Trash." Ulquiorra said this as he looked Lord Aizen in the eyes,Yet his eyes quickly moved over Layla, her demeanor was as usual, a bag of snacks in hand she looked disinterested by the whole process but Ulquiorra knew she was paying the most attention in the room.
"Very well, show us all what led you to this conclusion."
Removing his Left eye Ulquiorra crushed it and allowed everyone to see what had happened. When Aizen saw Zommari counter both Kisuke and Yoruichi his eyes narrowed slightly as he looked over to the Espada casually eating chips. 'These Espada are growing stronger everyday, and this one here is at a level where I can no longer be too casual with her.' Aizen thought as he looked at Layla who was stuffing snooker doodles in her mouth like they were going extinct.
"So why didn't you just kill him?" An Arrancar with Blue hair spoke, as he looked at Zommari with a stern look.
"That wasn't the purpose of this mission and you know that, let's not get all high and mighty. While it may have seemed like I was on par with both Kisuke and Yoruichi, I could never defeat them." Zommari looked at the Blue haired Espada with a stern look which caused the Espada to get slightly annoyed and release some of his Spiritual pressure.
"Grimmjow." a Small voice spoke but when it resounded sweat immediately appeared on Grimmjow's back. Turning his head he looked at the small pink-haired Espada seated next to an old man.
"Yes, Hexxius?"
"Do you think you would have done better in Zommari's position? It's obvious to see that the two didn't even break a sweat while attacking Zommari, sure with Ulquiorra there it would have been easier to force them into a fight but that would have only allowed more time for reinforcements. That wasn't the purpose of this mission, do you understand?" The small Arrancar was swinging his feet as they hung off the edge of his position, the number 2 was Tattooed on the inner side of his right calf.
The line of questioning Hexxius asked was simple but with each word, there was a level of authority that Grimmjow could not refute. Sitting upon the throne, Aizen watched the entire exchange while taking a sip of his tea. 'This is actually a pretty interesting dynamic. I feel more like the Head Captain leading a legitimate military. I don't always have to interject because a higher-ranking Espada will resolve the issue before I have to voice my opinion. This isn't what I expected when I decided on using Hollows to fight the Soul Society.'
Aizen looked around the room at the Espada. 'Ranks 0-2 are basically in a completely different dimension compared to the others. Their intellect, leadership capabilities, problem resolution, and power make the other Espada look like children. Even then a lot of the time Laylini and Nel do not interject only Hexxius speaks. However, because of this, the Espada are more like a team than an individual collection of power.'
Placing his teacup down on the small table next to his throne Aizen looked up at the Espada that were now quietly seated around the room. "We will continue as planned, the Hogyoku will awaken in 4 months' time. We will take this time to build up our forces, I will leave the task of dividing the Arrancar up to Espada Cero."
Looking at Layla who responded with a slight nod, Aizen stood up and left the throne room. 'He's placing more responsibility on me to test my loyalty huh. Very well.'
Looking at the Espada who now had their focus on her, Layla began formulating her plans. "This winter we will be going up against the 13 Court Guard squads. Including Lord Aizen, Gin and Kaname there are 13 Captain level individuals in Los Noches. We Espada each lead a separate Palace, therefore why not create a force similar to the 13 Court Guard Squads?"
The Espada around the room showed differing faces of confusion Which allowed Layla complete control over the room. "The 13 Court guard Squads are divided into 13 separate Divisions led by a Captain. Under the Captain, there are 19 seated officers, you all know the structure so I will stop there. Each Espada will lead a "Palacio '', Under the Espada, we will have 10 "Vaina '' which will lead the Numuros. This will create something similar to the 13 Court Guard Squads, to fight an Army we need an Army."
Each Espada showed a look of Understanding and listened closely. "This will create a Chain of Command: Lord Aizen, The Espada, The Faccion, The Vaina, then the Numuros. The Espada number 0-9, The Faccion will be 10-99, The Vaina will be 100-199, and the Numuros will be 200+. Like the Espada, their number will be Tattooed onto their body, as not every Espada has 10 Faccion, like us they will be given a number based on their strength. This number will also act as their rank which creates a more formal military that we can control and issue orders to."
So to make things more clear only the Espada can command Faccion, even if one faccion serves a higher ranking Espada than another, and the same applies to the ranks below. Faccion can only command the Vaina under their Espada, and the Vaina can only command Numuros under their Command. This allows commands and information to flow both up and Down the Chain of command without being hindered.
"This is a war we cannot afford to lose, the Espada are natural Arrancar, the Faccion are Vasto Lorde turned Arrancar by the Hogyoku, The Vaina will be Adjucha turned Arrancar, and the Numerous will be Gillian turned Arrancar." Layla looked at the understanding on the faces of the Arrancar. "Espadas Ranked 0 to 4 are permitted to have naturally created Arrancar in their Faccion, these will still be utilizing the same ranking system but their numbers will be Red, designating them members of the Elite Guard."
'These Espada are far more powerful than the ones in the original, this change will make our positions far loftier and untouchable, after this change I doubt an Espada ranked 4 and above will be deployed so easily. Also, since Aizen is testing me I will give him a few small victories before I strike, during the Winter showdown when we are finally deployed in full strength. That is when Aizen will be no more.'
Layla then turned her head to Hexxius, "So what were you saying to Grimmjow earlier?" All the Arrancar in the room then focused their eyes on Espada number 5, being put on the spot by Layla made him even more uncomfortable than before as he nervously turned his head up to the dark-skinned Arrancar eating various pastries.
"Oh! Yeah, basically I was saying that he needs more insight on the purpose of a mission. Rather than thinking everything is Destroy all the things. I understand Destruction is his aspect of death but there should be a brain behind those eyes capable of logical thought." Hexxius looked at Layla then his eyes locked onto Grimmjow once again, "After this, I was going to have a discussion with him privately."
This made the high and mighty Espada number 5 more nervous, "Cool, i'll leave it to you then. In the upcoming days, I would like you all to get this done, I will also think about the specialties of each Palacio and get back to you all by the next Espada meeting. Also, Espada 7 and Below, you three will take the time to find us worthy comrades to fill these positions. Espada 6, Lately I have noticed that when I, Nel, or Tier speak you seem to have an issue. Can you tell us why that is?" Layla smiled brightly as she looked into Nnoitora's eyes.
