Bab 26: Speech 100

"Excusing miss how much for these three." I picked up the small wooden kokeshi doll, "Oh, that will be one silver." I balked at the price, but I handed over the coin, and the woman wrapped the wooden doll in a paper and bow before handing over my package.

"Have a nice day!" I grumbled as I left the shop.

Looking down at the map I bought I tried to find the correct house, after flying for a week or so I reached the Wano Country. When I arrived, I styled my hair and robbed a few thugs of their hard-earned cash, and I bought myself clothes that didn't scream imposter.

After asking around for my future teacher's address, I started the climb to see him. The large zig-zagging ramps were a bother as I didn't want to use my devil fruit powers.

Looking at the house in front of me, it fit the description, knocking on the door, I waited. I almost knocked a second time when the person I was looking for answered the door.

"Who are you?" I looked down at the short man dressed as a tengu, "Are you swordsmith, Tenguyama Hitetsu."

"I asked who are you." Hitetsu reached down for the sword at his waist, and I could tell it was extremely well made, "My name is Soren Arvil, 16th division commander for the Whitebeard pirates."

Hitetsu froze, "Hmph, fine, come in already." He shut the door behind me, and I looked at the simple and plain room.

"Sit down while I go prepare us some tea." I smiled and sat down at the knee height table as Hitetsu disappeared into another room.

After a few minutes, I felt someone's eyes on me and looked over to see a small girl staring at me from the stairs.

Realizing she, I had spotted her, the purple-haired girl yelped, and she ran back up the stairs. Hitetsu returned a moment later with two cups of steaming tea, "Forgive me for showing up unannounced, but I had no way of contacting you."

Hitetsu frowned, "Tell me why do you need to come here in person." I took a sip of the tea and noted that it was quite good, "I need a sword. My old one broke in a fight."

"You do realize even if I agree to make you a sword, it can take months for me to make one." I shook my head, "I think you've misunderstood. I want to forge my sword myself. I just need you to teach me."

Hitetsu brows immediately furrowed, and his voice was cold, "Why do you think I would hand over my secrets to someone I've known for less than an hour."

"I can pay. I have some wealth built up." Hitetsu growled, "I don't need your money."

"Maybe if you were feeding yourself, but that little girl upstairs is looking a little thin." In the blink of an eye, Hitetsu was standing on the table, his sword at my throat.

"If you even think about harming here..." I pushed aside Hitetsu katana, "I didn't mean it as a threat, here take this." I reached into my robe and placed a pouch on the table, the bag toppled over, and gold and silver coins spilled out.

Hitetsu put away his sword and stepped down, "I don't take charity." I smiled, "It's not a donation. It's payment for my teaching."

Hitetsu growled, and he picked up the money, "There's a shed out back next to the forge. You'll be sleeping there. Be ready in the morning."

Hitetsu showed me the shed, and he closed the door behind me, and I could swear I heard the lock click in place. That when I realized that the sun was just rising overhead, sighing, I laid down on the small mat and closed my eyes.

Waking up early in the morning, I decided to make a good impression. Looking in the fridge, I saw Hitetsu's meager rations. But it wasn't the first time I had to scrape together a meal. In ten minutes, I had a decent meal that would make any starving man weep.

Taking my bowl back to my shed, I waited for someone to fetch me. It wasn't long before Hitetsu opened the door.

"Come, we have work to do." I followed Hitetsu as he walked into the bamboo forest around the house. After walking for ten minutes, we entered a clearing.

There was some sort of clay structure about two meters tall and one wide and 3 meters long. Near the bottom on each side, there were small holes no larger than my thumb.

"This is where you will start. To learn to smith, you must learn how to refine metal. This is a Tatara, a traditional smelting forge. In the next month, I will show you how to make metal strong enough to smith."

I pushed my robe off my shoulders, leaving my torso bare, "Of course, sensei." Hitetsu huffed, "I am not your teacher just yet, now start by shoveling coal into the furnace."

Hitetsu gestured to the pile of coal next to several barrels of what looked like black sand. Grabbing a shovel, I started to fill the furnace with coal until I had depleted half of the pile.

"Alright, stop there. We need to save the rest to keep the fire going once it's lit." Hitetsu then proceeded to light the coal on fire before handing me a pair of bellows, "Well, get to it."

Kneeling next to the furnace, I placed the bellows' tip into one of the small holes and started to pump. The coals began to turn cheery red in a few minutes, and foot-tall flames started to shoot up into the air.

"Now, the iron sand." I shoveled the black sand into the furnace, and the flames almost licked my hands. Hitetsu stopped me when I got through one barrel, "And now you'll maintain the fire for and add more sand and coal when. I come back and check on you tomorrow.

Before I could ask anything else, Hitetsu was gone leaving me alone to manage the forest.
