Bab 45: Tears
Riku and Zeus landed on Flower Hill, well what was left of it anyway, and Zeus whistled. A cloud came down and formed a table with two chairs. On the table, two cups and a bottle of wine surfaced and poured out the wine into the cups before sinking the wine bottle down and surfacing a pack of cigarettes.
Riku was impressed but declined the cigarettes and the cloud moved them to Zeus' side. Zeus took out a cigarette and lit it before saying "I want to offer you a deal." Riku immediately said "I reject." Zeus was startled and said "You don't even know what it is yet." Riku held his hand and said "I thank you for the hospitality but I will not do deals with criminals. Doflamingo is a prime example."
Zeus nodded and said "Aren't you afraid that I'll force you like he did?" Riku flinched and Zeus waved his hand saying "I won't. But I would like you to hear me out, please."
Riku thought about it and said "I suppose there's no harm to listening." Zeus cleared his throat and said "Thank you."
He formulated his words before saying "I want you to move to another Island. You will have no restrictions at all and it will be just like the old Dress Rosa before the accident. As you can see, the island is completely devastated. It will take millions if not billions to even think about starting to rebuild and with the limited funds, perhaps Dress Rosa will never recover. I can provide you with a new island, homes for your people and all the attractions that made Dress Rosa what it was before, the only thing that would be different is that the Island will be under a different name and you will have to move."
Zeus paused before saying "I don't expect you to contact me at all but I would like to know if you plan on changing anything on the island, that is, if you choose to agree."
Riku narrowed his eyes and said "What's the catch?" Zeus smiled slightly and said "The catch is I would like Princess Viola to relay information about any suspicious persons she finds snooping around the island." Riku opened his mouth and Zeus cut him off saying "I understand that you don't want any connections to the underworld what so ever but I can assure you that my information branch is completely clean. If anything happens, I will take full responsibility for Princess Viola's as well as you and all the people of the island's safety."
Riku said "Let me see if I understand this correctly. You want the royal family to move to another island, along with all it's citizens. If I want to make major changes I need to speak with you, and in addition my daughter will be a part of a completely clean information selling and buying organization, with no connections to any underworld business whatsoever."
Zeus nodded and said "That's right. I predict that within a year the island will be bustling with people. As we speak, only 20% of the island's total area has been used, I estimate that with the hopeful addition of the Dress Rosa royal family and it's citizens, a total of 40-50% of the land area will be used. There is plenty of room for development in the future and I have a team of excellent architects that can implement whatever you would like into your palace, whether it's secret hallways, rooms, etc. Even I won't know unless you tell me, I already have several of these set up around the island, hiding the underworld affairs."
Zeus stopped before saying quickly "Also, the Island's inhabitants as well as the businesses and residences are completely clean and legal, the only thing is that our organization is behind it all in the shadows. The city is completely separate fr-"
Riku cut him off and sighed "I can't agree." Zeus was startled and said "May I ask why? If your worried about Viola, then I don't hav-" Riku cut him off again and said "It's not about Viola. I like the conditions and it seems very nice but I don't even know who I'm talking to first of all-"
Zeus stopped him and said "Not a problem." Zeus took off his mask and smiled as he said "Monkey D. Zeus, Nice to meet you." before extending his hand for a handshake. Riku was stunned and shook his hand dumbly saying "Nice to meet you.."
Zeus smiled and said "I'm sure you're very shocked. I would like to ask you to not tell my brother or his friends.. Or anyone for that matter. Very soon everyone will know and I want to reveal it myself." Riku nodded with a smile and Zeus said quickly "So about our deal. It's purely for the Island itself, I already have development plans-"
Riku cut him off again and said "Zeus. I appreciate your offer but even knowing who you are isn't what the problem was. As I was going to say, I may be the King but I cannot make such a decision alone. These things require time and effort, I appreciate your sincerity but right now without any consultation to my citizens, I just can't agree. No matter how good the offer is."
Zeus rubbed his chin and pulled a paper out of the cloud before printing it on another one and handing it to Riku as he said "I understand, but I would like you to think about it, at least until my brother and his crew leaves. I'll give you this as a greeting gift, this is what I plan to build in he middle of my Island. I, of course, gave you a simplified version but if you like this then maybe you'll reconsider my offer. I appreciate you letting me speak with you, considering your past with underworld figures."
Zeus smiled and drank his cup of wine completely before dropping it into the cloud. Riku held the rolled up paper and laughed before drinking his cup and dropping it as well saying "No problem. Thank you for the gift."
Zeus smiled and vaporized his cigarette as he said "Need a ride back?" while putting his mask back on. Riku chuckled and nodded, Zeus chuckled and grabbed his shoulder before disappearing.
Zeus reappeared in front of Viola and Rebecca with Riku before nodding and leaving wordlessly. He was still busy so he had no time to chat, even if they were beautiful ladies.
Riku watched him go before turning back to, a worried, Viola, who said "What did he say? Is it like Doflamingo?! I don't know if Luffy and his friends can beat him right now.." Riku had black lines on his forehead, what about me?! Rebecca said "He's really strong, maybe Lucy can't beat him!" Riku had even more black lines and finally said "No faith in your father and grampa?"
They both looked at him and shook their heads in despair. Riku felt a vein bulge on his forehead before taking a deep breath and saying "Nothing happened. He's not as bad as you think." Viola said snappily "That's what you think! Those Underworld guys are all the same!"
Riku felt something was wrong, those? Meaning multiple? Meaning dating? EH? He grabbed Voila's cheek and said "Have you been dating?!" Viola paled and shook her head quickly, Riku narrowed his eyes before letting go and turning to Rebecca and patting her head saying "Look at Rebecca, she doesn't think about boys at all."
Rebecca blushed deeply and said "Actually grandpa, Lucy is really nice and kind!" Riku felt like spitting out blood, he finally gave up and told Viola and Rebecca what Zeus offered him and held out the paper, he had yet to even look at himself saying "This was a greeting gift."
Viola snatched the paper out of his hands and mumbled "Dumb old man.." before opening it cautiously, naturally nothing happened and a beautiful circular courtyard with a big fountain appeared in front of their eyes.
Viola gasped and said "Beautiful!" Rebecca nodded dumbly and even Riku was stunned before saying "This is the simplified version? What does the full one look like?" Viola was silent before rolling up the picture and giving it back to Riku saying "And you said no! What a crazy old man!"
Riku stammered "I didn't see this before I denied! Plus, what would the citizens think?!" Viola threw her hands up and said "What do you mean?! You don't have to pay for repairs, you get a beautiful fountain, a new island, most of all you don't have to fucking clean!" she kicked a rock next to her and it went flying through the air, hitting a random man in the head and knocking him out cold.
Someone grabbed him and screamed "Medic! Oh god!"
Viola grumbled and crossed her arms. Riku was stunned and Rebecca sniffed saying "You know grandpa... It sounds pretty good.. I think you should have agreed.." Riku looked at Rebecca in surprise and said "But your mother's grave.." Viola was saddened and sighed before saying "Maybe not.."
Rebecca said "We can move it.. And on the new island we can have a new graveyard for everyone who fell during the battle..." Viola closed her eyes and sighed "Rebecca you don't have to-" Rebecca shook her head and said "I'm the princess, if it's best for the country, I will do it."
Riku sighed and said "Notice the people and ask for their opinions." Viola nodded and said "Where is it?" Riku was startled and said "Actually I don't know..." Viola was stunned before laughing and walking away to spread the news.
Rebecca stood next to Riku, who looked at her and said "You like that Lucy boy eh?" Rebecca turned red and ran away covering her face and screaming "Grampa!!!" Riku laughed loudly before sighing.
Zeus flashed across the island and hovered above when the crew was, he took a long hard look at Luffy. Bonney said "Just go see him." Zeus shook his head and said "Very soon, I'm just waiting for the call. Once I become a criminal that's when I'll see him again." Bonney shook her head and laid down on his shoulder comfortably and falling asleep.
Persephone spoke up "Do you think that King will agree?" Zeus sighed and said "I have no idea. I hope so, under his leadership Abyss Island will grow very fast and I have no doubts that the citizens who are already living there will like him. Plus with me behind the curtain protecting the Island without the government knowing it, coupled with the fact that they are real royalty, there will be no problems..."
Persephone said "But.." Zeus added "But, the only concern I have is how Riku feels about Cipher Pol and the marines. I will not allow a marine outpost on my Island, nor do I want those rats snooping around. If it were only Marines like the admiral that is currently on the island, there's no problems, but if it's marines like that red candle lighter, then I will simply not allow it. I won't take any chances either."
Zeus looked down intently and Persephone lost her soft tone and said coldly "Don't de-rail yourself for a moment of happiness. Your life, the rest of Tartarus, as well as theirs hang in the balance of your every move. You have a plan, stick to it. Don't make me look down on you."
Zeus closed his eyes and flashed away, he rubbed Persephone's head softly and said "Thank you Persephone." Persephone smiled and went back to her usual tone saying "If your so thankful we can have an affair~"
Zeus almost fell from the sky and cursed "Vixen!" before flying off, Persephone's silver bell-like laughter ringing in the air.
A few hours later
Zeus was sitting in the conference room with a giant map of the current Abyss Island on the table. Zeus was concentrating intently and smoking while looking at the island and occasionally writing, drawing, and erasing things on the map. He was currently waiting for the government to call him to move up the trade and jack up the cost for the fruits.
Zeus was also working on the structure of the island, whether Dress Rosa joined or not didn't matter. The Island needed an expansion anyway, if Dress Rosa comes he will simply add more buildings and attractions. A large influx of people will flood Abyss Island and if they want to stay residents of the island but don't have a place to stay are they going to live in the wild? Naturally not, thus Zeus decided to map out the island, the way he wanted, leaving space for Dress Rosa specific attractions.
Persephone was sitting next to him and looking at the map in thought, Bonney was on the other side giving ideas and pointing to spots she thought were good, it had to be said, Bonney was excellent at planning, even her current ideas and locations were really good.
Zeus really loved her to death, this cute little wife of his. He looked at her, only to see a side profile of her face, her pink hair that was tucked behind her ear was slowly falling down onto her perfect jade face.
He smiled to himself before turning back to the map, but he was thinking about something completely different. Maybe he should get Bonney a ring and ask her to be his wife for real? His heart spun up at thought and it grew and grew in his mind, until it wasn't a thought but a requirement.
Zeus decided to get on that immediately, but the snail started ringing. Zeus was a bit irked and grabbed the snail before snarling "What." A voice on the other end was startled but quickly said "The deal has been moved up and changed."
Zeus calmed his temper and said in a neutral tone "Speak." the voice said "The cut was upped to 25%." Zeus waited and nothing, he sneered "Upping the price but not the goods? I thought I told you I don't like jokes, Mr. Ghost."
Mr. Ghost said "Please make a counter then, Mr, Kronos." Zeus said "I want the goods doubled and my requirements doubled" Mr. Ghost said "Mr. Kronos, If you don't like jokes why are you making one now?" Zeus continued "You didn't let me finish. You double the shipment and I provide you with a 30% instead of 25%."
Mr. Ghost was silent before saying "Please wait a moment." Zeus said nothing and looked back to the plans before drawing on them again. A few minutes later, Mr. Ghost said "We can double the Zoans and Paramecias along with the requirements but the second Logia is not negotiable."
Zeus thought for a moment before saying "That's fine. I want to meet in 2 days, is that possible?" Mr. Ghost immediately said "Not a problem at all. The meeting point will be Punk Hazard, is this acceptable for you?"
Zeus said "Not an issue. Goodbye Mr. Ghost." Mr. Ghost said "Goodbye, Mr. Kronos... Good bye." before hanging up. Zeus sneered at the snail before putting it down, Persephone frowned and said "What was with that tone at the end?"
Zeus sneered even harder and said "They want a bigger piece, since they found out I was at Dress Rosa and all of Pinkie's assets were lost.." Zeus chuckled and said "They're planning to burn me. Good, I can't wait." he picked up a different snail and said "Meeting, right now. Hurry up and unload into your women, if you're not here in 5 minutes, I'll finish for you." before putting down the snail again.
Persephone and Bonney glared at Zeus, who waved and said "Just a joke." before looking at the map and saying "So you were saying a restaurant here?" Persephone giggled and Bonney said angrily "A five-star one!" Zeus drew it in and said "Of course! Only the best for my wife!" Bonney crossed her arms and nodded in satisfaction, while Persephone giggled with a smile in her eyes.
5 minutes later.. exactly.
Zeus exhaled a mouthful of smoke and said "Call came. 2 days, Punk Hazard. Shipment's doubled, except the Logia for 30%." the rest had ugly faces and Zeus held up his hand and said "Good news is were not paying. Another piece of good news, the government knows we took Pinky's assets and are going to burn me at the meeting."
He grinned maniacally "You all know what that means." Lucci licked his lips and Crocodile grinned. Tesoro said "What if they don't bring the shipment at all?"
Zeus pointed at Tesoro and said "Ding ding! Someone's getting smarter around his wife!" Tesoro chuckled and Zeus continued "I already thought about this. They will definitely bring the goods but they will only take them out if they feel threatened, which is not what we want."
He looked around the room before closing his eyes and saying "Which is why I will be going... Alone." the conference room went into an uproar and Lucci said "Impossible. What if they flood you with hundreds of agents?"
Tesoro said "What do you mean alone!? We're all part of Tartarus no?!"
Crocodile nodded and said "As much as I hate to say it, without you, none of us would be here. Tartarus wouldn't exist, the Zodiacs would still be runaways, Void would still be the small time information gathering group, and Tesoro would still be a widow on a golden boat."
Crocodile slammed the table and said angrily "Even though we all joined under conditions and being controlled by various means, we still signed up willingly. If we don't take us, even if you do have my heart I will try my hardest to kill you."
Lucci nodded and said "I agree." Tesoro said "Me too." Shiruton spread her hands and said "I know, I'll die but I will try as well." Snow formed in the room and Perona floated in through the window while the other 9 assassins, and Bentham and Daz Bones appeared in the room and said "Us too."
Zeus looked at everyone and slowly took a drag from his cigarette, he slowly turned into his hybrid form and spread his Conqueror's Haki, his eyes turned red and lightning wisped off the sides as he exhaled a ring and said "You all still think so?"
There were several gulps but they all nodded firmly, completely prepared to fight.
Bonney was nervous, but Persephone had her eyes shadowed, her expression unable to be read.
Zeus said grimly "Looks like I'll have to kill you all..." they tensed up and braced themselves, but Zeus reverted and sighed "But then I have to go recruiting again and that's such a pain in my fucking ass. Fine, you win. Now get out of here, you bastards!" a small smile appeared on his lips as he ended his speech.
The rest let out their breaths and grinned victoriously before leaving quickly, going to prepare themselves for a big fight.
Only Zeus, Bonney, and Persephone were still in the room.
Bonney let out a breath and said "That's a relief! I thought you were going to kill them all!" what responded her was silence, she turned and saw Zeus staring at the map with a big smile and tears pooling in his eyes. Bonney was startled before understanding and smiling softly, she leaned over and hugged him, whispering quietly "You did it.."
Zeus heard her words and the dam burst, he moved the map up and his tears fell on the table as he said "I.. I've been working so hard. Never stopping for 2 years..." Persephone looked up and revealed that she also had tears in her eyes, she lunged at Zeus and hugged him crying "Awwww! They all respect yoooooou!"
Zeus hugged both the girls, not caring about anything else, just pure joy. He let them go and wiped his eyes saying "Finally... I.. I couldn't ask for better people. Some of them might be assholes but fuck! They're MY assholes!"
He slammed the table and his tears started falling again as he said "It's all worth it!" he chuckled and it soon developed into happy laughter "It's all worth it for them! Bwahahahahah" he swallowed his laugh and said to himself "Can't become gramps!" Bonney and Persephone laughed and wiped their eyes, they were both happy for Zeus, his efforts paid off.
Zeus rolled up the map and wiped his eyes again saying "Fucking bunch of clowns, good thing they left. What kind of boss cries?" Persephone looked at the window and saw a bunch of heads and giggled, she quickly waved them away and the heads smiled and vanished.
Zeus put the map in his cloud and walked out of the door to see Kuzan leaning against the wall next to the door with his mask hanging off his waist. Zeus smiled and said "How's living on Abyss Island, Uncle?"
Kuzan nodded and said "Not too bad, but there's not enough room." Zeus nodded and rubbed his chin as he said "Yeah, I'm working on it. I have to make the plans, maybe in a few days we'll have a bunch of people coming over. I'll call the architects later.."
Kuzan nodded and said "That's good. By the way..." Zeus looked up and Kuzan smiled slightly "You have quite the loyal people, Zeus." Zeus smiled slightly and said softly "I know. They're pretty great."
Kuzan patted Zeus' head and said "Pretty capable. I'm proud of you kid. Back in the marines, I would never even think you would accomplish this. Though it's not the best profession but you did it all by yourself."
Zeus clenched his fists and his eye turned red again, Kuzan smiled and waved over his shoulder as he left "Keep going kiddo. I'm rooting for you." before he walked out of the building and disappeared.
Zeus' tears fell once again and he wiped them while laughing "Fucking bastard. What's with everyone today.." He slapped his cheeks and took a deep breath before walking out of the building with a big smile. Bonney and Persephone watched with smiles behind him, they looked at each other and sneered before transforming and jumping on Zeus' shoulders.
Zeus stood on the cliff before smiling and spreading his hands out and jumping off. He fell from the sky until he hybrid transformed and flew towards the docks, ready to start his plans once again.
