Bab 22: New year's kiss
I always thought when you have a best friend, you would always love them till the end but I guess I was wrong because the hatred brewing inside me right now isn't heavenly.
"Thanks for ruining the moment Trisha." Christian said.
"Anytime." She smiled too sweetly. "Now are you coming or not?"
"Yeah yeah." Christian said standing and pulling me up with him and we walked towards Trish.
"I hate you." I seethed when I got beside Trish and she smiled.
"Awwn babe. The feeling is mutual." She side-hugged me. "Yo Christian wait up!" She called to Christian who was a few steps ahead of us.
"C'mon let's go. I have a lot to tell you." She said and winked at me and the hate I had for her reduced a teeny tiny bit.
"I still hate you." I said to her as she linked her arm with mine.
"I know." She smiled as we walked towards Christian.
Days passed and finally it was New year's eve. After Trish ruined our moment, we went to Chillitos for dinner. An Italian middle age man named Diego runs the palce and he always loves to rain profanities on his workers. But on the bright side, he serves the best Italian dishes in Oaksville.
As for what Trish wanted to talk about, she and Caleb are now officially dating and they had been loveydovey since.
Christmas also came and left. Emily threw a great Christmas party which was fun and we all got presents. Emily got us sweaters, Mark got me a black purse, Trish got me a new red headphone and Christian got me a pendant with small a diamond shaped key on it. I asked what the key is for but he told me with time I would know.
Whatever that means. After that, we went to a Christmas costume party that Caleb threw. Trish dressed as a reindeer, Christian as santa, and I dressed as an elf. The party was a blast and drunk Ashley came out.
My nightmare became frequent mainly because of the accident happened three days after Christmas. I got through with Christian because he was by my side the whole time and he was acting kind of weird.
And now I was currently with Trish in my room, getting ready to go to a countdown party with her.
"Do I really have to go?" I asked for the billionth time.
"Yeah. Who wouldn't want to go to a countdown party?"
"Me. I wouldn't."
"C'mon go get ready, we are going to be late!!!" She said on my bed scrolling through her phone and I was at the edge of the bathroom.
Trish was dressed in a black turtle neck top, short black jeans skirt and thigh high boots.Her hair was straightened and she was wearing minimal makeup up. The promise ring Caleb gave her was on her index finger.
"But I dont want to!" I whined.
"Ashley Kara Colton, if you don't go get ready now, I will go tell Christian you have a massive crush on him." She sounded bored.
What?
"Wait what?"
"Did you think I wouldn't find out." She looked up at me. "Ashley I'm your best friend. And I'm a little disappointed that you didn't tell me." She returned back to her phone.
"I just found out myself you know." I defended.
"Yeah right, just go get ready or I'll go tell him."
"You wouldn't dare." She stopped to look at me, dropped her phone, stood up and walked to the door, opened it and
"Oh Christian! I got something to tell you." She sang.
"Okay okay I'm in already." I entered the bathroom but not without seeing the victory smirk in her face.
With the music blasting in full volume, I'm pretty sure I would go home deaf today. I decided to go with a plain white turtle neck top with a black jumper dress and black heels.
Christian also decided to come with us and he was dressed in all black like his twin but in white sneakers.
Trish and Caleb were no where to be found and Christian went to grab a drink for me.
"Here you go." He said handing me a red solo cup.
"Thanks."
"Not a fan of parties?" He asked and I shook my head.
"Why?"
"We all know what happened the last time I attended a party." I took a sip from my drink.
"Ah, old times." He said and I shoved him playfully.
The music stopped and everyone groaned.
"I am sorry for stopping the music but we got a special something for this year's countdown." The dj said. "Apparently, it's New year's eve and since we all know we have to get a kiss, why don't we switch it up a little bit. Currently it's 11:30, so when it's 11:59, to be exact, 30 seconds before New year, the lights are going to go off and you are going to grab the person nearest to you and kiss them. In those 30 seconds, the person you are kissing won't know who you are and when it reaches one, the lights are back on." He said and everyone cheered. "So for the next 30 minutes, enjoy and till next time guys." He finished and turned the music back on.
"Did you know about this?" I turned to ask Christian.
"Nope. I didn't even want to come."
"Then why are you here?"
"Well, a particular somebody was going to attend."
"Oh." I smiled. I couldn't help but blush even though I might not be the 'particular somebody.'
"Wanna dance?" He asked after a while.
"No. I think I don't want to be here when the countdown starts."
"Why?" He sounded disappointed.
"Well, I don't want a stranger shoving his tongue down my throat " I said in a duh tone.
"You could kiss me then?" He suggested and I felt butterflies even though I knew he was probably joking.
"Yeah right."
"I'm act-"
"Okay places everyone. It's 11:59 already." The dj interrupted Christian.
"And my cue to leave." I didn't even wait for a response from Christian before I headed for the door.
Only have 30 seconds to get out of here.
I thought to myself. I didn't want to go around kissing anyone just for New years even though it's a particular somebody I want kiss.
"Ashley wait!" Christian shouted and he sounded like he was right behind me.
Not now Christian, I have to get out of here.
Suddenly the lights went off and I stopped in my tracks.
Great, I didn't make it out in time.
I heard lips moving and smashing against each other.
Gross.
A hand suddenly pulled me and I was against a hard chest. The unknown person put his hand round my waist and pulled me towards him.
Oh god. Tell me this is not happening.
Before I could object, his lips were on mine and the first thing that came to mind was that he tasted like strawberries.
I'm sooo in love with strawberries right now.
He kissed like he was trained and I enjoyed it. I placed my hands in his hair, taking my hands through it.
Soooo soft and silky.
Before I could deepened the kiss,he pulled away and I groaned. I checked the large digital clock on the wall and saw we still had 15 seconds left. I pulled him in for another kiss and this time I did deepen it. I touched my tongue with his and oh god was it heavenly.
From a short distance, we could hear the voices of people who were shouted from ten at the town square.
"10,9,8,7..." I was still kissing the guy but when it reached three, he pulled away and I felt a sudden emptiness in me. "2,1.....HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!" The lights came back on and everyone cheered. I slowly opened my eyes, looked left and right and groaned.
To my left was Kelvin Parker. The captain of the school's swimming team and a total nerd. To my right was Paul Turner. A total kill joy. I know Kelvin likes me because he told me junior year, but I kindly turned him down letting him know I didn't feel the same. I offered literature with him since and wevwere kind of friends?
"Hey Kel." I greeted him
"Hey Ash. You look beautiful." He smiled making his blue eyes twinkle.
"Thanks. Happy new year."
"Same." He said and I turned to see Christian staring at me a few steps away. I waved and he smiled making his way over to me.
"So," he started, scratching the back of his neck and I waited for him to continue. He was nervous and I wondered why. A brief thought came to mind but I quickly dismissed it. I couldn't help but think about it.
What if he was the one who kissed me?
Nah. He was like ten feet away.
But he pulled away 2 seconds and it did take me sometime to open my eyes.
It also could have been Kelvin or Paul. Like Kelvin likes me and Paul is a perv.
Yeah that's what probably happened.
"So?" I promted. He stared at my lips before looking at my eyes again and I could feel myself blushing.
"Want to get out of here?"
"Totally." I said with a smile
