"You only have one try," Sanya told Aesop, and he nodded.
Dr. Jaia went over to Lia and placed her hands on her shoulder. "To get you motivated, your caretaker will stand at the FINISH line."
Lia looked at Dr. Jaia and looked worried. She didn't like the idea that she was being used for Aesop's field test, and she pushed the scientists' hand away from her shoulder. She then asked her, "Please don't do this to him. He can do his best even if I'm not going to stand at the finish line. Instead, take me somewhere where I can see him inside the maze… like the control room."
Dr. Jaia raised one of her eyebrows and stared intently at the fearful caretaker. She's got guts to go against her, the scientist thought. Her deep blue eyes pierced through Dr. Jaia's strong front and she had her agree, "Very well."
