Walking down the hallway towards my school dorm room a girl shouts from down the hall, "Don't fall Terra!"
The harassment had become a daily occurrence for her, but it still bothers her just as much each day and she couldn't do much about it except retaliate.
Terra stopped and readjusted her glasses as they had slipped down the ridge of her nose. She needed a new pair and you could tell how many times they had taken a fall. The corners had tape holding the arms to the frame cause them not to fit straight on her face and there were several scratches on the lens.
Turning around Terra gave her the middle finger saying, "I bet you don't event know how many fingers I'm holding up!"
The girl clenched her fist and started to chase after Terra, "You're a level 1 piece of crap! When are you going to learn that you don't belong here?"
The girl placed bother of her hands together and a blue ball of water formed. When she was only a few meters away from Terra, she through the ball of water forward and it shot out from her palm.
Seeing the water ball coming at her Terra ducked down but it still wasn't enough as it hit her arm. All she could do was grit her teeth and bear the pain, as she got hit by the water ball she was sent spinning backwards into the corridors wall.
"What's going on?" One of the Students nearby asks.
"Are they fighting on the last day of school?"
A crowd of student starts to form as they open their doors to see what was going on and interested in what the commotion was about. One of the other female students ran over to the damaged part of the wall to check on the student's safety, but once the dust started to settle and Terra's wavy strawberry blonde hair tied into a ponytail coming into view. When the dust eventually cleared up and the girl saw who it was, she immediately backed away and went back to her own business as if nothing happened.
Though when she got back to her friends, Terra could hear them laughing at her.
"I can't believe you tried to help her!"
"I didn't see who it was," the girl retorted back with cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
Standing up Terra picked up her glasses off the floor, one of the sides had fallen off again, "Darn it, not again!"
It was the last day of school for Terra and she was hoping just once that someone wouldn't try anything with her. Terra was sick and tired of it and she wasn't the type to ignore it either. She had seen people who had chosen to just keep their heads down and tolerate the harassment and their treatment was far worse than what she got.
Terra didn't bother to stay at the school afterwards like the rest of the students. As she walked past, she saw people talking to each other. Some were laughing while some had tears thinking the it was going to be the last time they would ever see each other again but Terra wasn't part of any of that and she didn't want to be.
When she finally arrived at her dorm room on the far side of the dorm building, Terra immediately got to work. Terra lived in a single bedroom dorm room provided by the school it had just enough room to fit a single bed and a desk with a small stool. There was a small laptop on the desk for her studies and work rarely using it for anything else. The dorm room and laptop had been provided her by the government since she had no living relatives and was still under sixteen years of age. On top of the bed was a suitcase with all of her belonging neatly folded and packed in.
When Terra entered her room, she didn't have much work to do other than pack in her laptop and one other item. Going to her desk and pulling out the drawer which contained a book. It was an old thick book that weighed about half a pound. The front of the book was red and in the center was a black dragon flying in a ring with lines in different direction away from the ring like the rays of a dark sun.
"Let's try again today," Terra says as she places the book on the desk. Going back to her school bag that was now sitting next to her suitcase. She pulls out a little test tube which had a clear liquid inside.
"Test number 108, Hydrochloric acid. Let's see it if this works."
Terra then started to slowly pour the liquid out of the test tube and onto the outer area of the book.
"No reaction so far," looking at it Terra stops pouring it on the book there's not reaction at all from coming into contact with the Hydrochloric acid, putting the cap back on the test tub she puts it back into her back in a safe space where there would be not chance of it breaking.
Carefully examining the book after disposing of the Hydrochloric acid into the small trash bin by door after nullifying its' affects using a base. There wasn't any damage done to the book, it looked the same as it always did.
"Gaahhhh another failure, why won't you open? Why would mom and dad even have this thing?"
Over one hundred and eight times, this was how many different ways Terra had tried to open the book. Not only would it not open, but it also seemed like it wasn't able to be damaged in any way either. Terra had tried to cut it, melt it, and even burn it, but nothing had ever worked.
Lying down on her bed she took out her laptop and turned on the new station for background noise so she would feel less lonely.
"The peace treaty with Drakons has lasted seven years now but some officials are saying that tension is rising once again and that we must prepare in case of another war," states a new reporter.
The mention and the threat of war has been repeatedly shown on News nonstop since that day twenty-eight years ago. The human race had received a visit from the so-called Drakons. They looked similar to humans except for their short lizard like tails and a green scales that ran up there sides to their faces.
The had demanded that the Human race hand over their resources and wanted to use them as their slaves. Of course, humans decided to fight back but found out that their modern technology was useless against them. The Bullets couldn't penetrate their skin and as for tanks, well the Drakons had spaceships.
Every man and woman were ordered to fight for their planet and that had included Terra's parents. The war went on for many years and Terra grew up not knowing what her parent and other family members looked like. When the human was on the verge of defeat, a select few came forward that had special abilities. They began sharing their knowledge of how they obtained these strange powers in the hopes of turning the tide in the war and it worked. Even though the Drakons were strong and had a seemingly endless energy the stalemate lead to a peace treaty signing seven years ago.
Of course, human greed got the better of many and instead sharing these powers with everyone, the higher ranked government officials decided to keep the best abilities for themselves. Only those with money were able to learn the more powerful abilities while everyone else was left with just the scraps.
Terra was given nothing when her parent died, the only thing the government agreed to do was pay for her living accommodation while he was still in school but that was it, and there were many other children just like her in this situation. When her parents died, she was only ten years old when an agent appeared at her doorstep and handed her the very book that was on her desk. She was told that this was the only thing her parents possessed which they passed down to her when they died.
"Why is the world so unfair?"
Terra got up from the bed and went over to the desk. She picked up her glasses that were still in bad shape and decided to fix them one last time. She noticed that one of the lenses was slightly out of place and tried to push it back into its frame.
"Come on, go back in," she mumbled as she pushed down a little too hard.
The lens suddenly broke in to pieces and one of the shards of glass created a deep cut in her thumb, "Ouch, why do my glasses hate me?"
Terra started to clean up the little pieces of glass and notices a few had landed on top of his book. As Terra removed the pieces of glass and place them in a pile on the desk, a drop of blood had fallen from her hand landing in the center of the book.
The ring, lines and the dragon started to glow and suddenly the book started to lift itself into the air.
"What the hell is going on?!!!"
The book started to shine even brighter and shake uncontrollably. It finally opened up and the pages began to turn. Terra couldn't take her eyes off of the book as it shone brighter and brighter it was as if she was in a trance. The words written in the book weren't in any language she had ever seen before but for some reason she felt like she could understand what they said.
When the book had finally turned its' last page, it started to disappear as if it was slowly turning to dust. Though at the same time Terra's vision began to fade and her body felt weak and slowly her eyes slid shut as she fell to the floor, but just before she passed out a single voice was heard.
<Congratulations you have received the Dra…>
Though Terra was unable to hear the final words as she passed out.
