Eru pulled his makeshift spear, but the dagger was stuck firmly. He helplessly watched the jaguar pounce on him.
Tugging the spear was useless, with his knee broke the stick in half. Something weird happened. The power in her body expanded so much that it formed a ball around him. The power flowed towards the spear's stick, making it stronger.
With a cry, Eru plunged it into the jaguar's neck.
This time the stick did work. It penetrated through the tough skin of the jaguar.
Panting, he watched the jaguar tilt and die right in front of him.
"phew.... I thought I was going to die," he whispered and wiped away the precipitation on his forehead.
"I thought so too," a voice whispered behind him.
Startled, he glanced back to find a smirking Lumian.
"Uncle," he exclaimed and dashed over to him. He turned him around and check if he was injured. "Oh thank god, you are not hurt. What happened I didn't hear you for a while," he whispered.
Lumian patted his hands away. "that.... I was busy with... um...." he whispered.
"Uncle!" Eru watched him with his eyebrows raised. His actions were quite dubious and doubtful. And with the present situation, it is impossible to trust anyone completely. "What WERE you doing?" he whispered and stepped back slowly.
Lumian chuckled again and stepped closer.
With each of his step, Eru stepped two steps back.
"Why are you stepping away, Kid?" Lumian whispered as he walked closer.
"Why are you getting closer?"
"I don't know because you are stepping away," Lumian said with a mouthful of smiles.
Eru stepped further until his back hit a huge tree stump. There was no way around it because Lumian had already stepped closer to him, blocking his path.
"Lumian..... are you a spy?" Eru whispered doubtfully.
His uncle did not answer instead he unsheathed his long sword and walked closer.
Eru gulped. If he had a one-on-one fight with this man, he knew that he would definitely be on the losing end. At present he did not have a weapon or even a small stick. 'ugh, why is staying alive so hard?' he thought desperately.
But Lumian had already walked so close.
Clenching his fist, Eru took in his attack position. If worse comes worse, it's better to die fighting. "Come on old man, I can take you any day," he shouted bravely.
Lumian chuckled and held the sword high. With one fell swoop, the sword came down.
Eru ducked down. And the sword cut through a huge snake that was slithering down the tree. With his eyes wide open, he glanced up at his uncle who was cleaning his sword and sheathing it. "eh?"
"Now, that's going to be dinner," Lumian laughed out loud. "Come on kid, stop ducking and come help me clean these preys," he said glancing back.
Eru on the other hand was stunned. 'He was not planning to kill me? Oh.... oooohhhh...' he thought, wiping his butt. With a grimace, he walked over to him and glanced down at the jaguar. He was currently skinning it with a sharp knife.
"Uncle?"
"Yes, kid," Lumian whispered without glancing up.
"Are you not a spy?" Eru squatted down next to him.
Lumian gazed at him with his eyebrows raised. "You thought 'I' was a spy?"
"Yesss...."
"That's insane kid," Lumian laughed out loud.
"I know, I know, but...I have seen too many people who have tried to hurt me," Eru said with a downcast look. It had been like that even since he had come to this world. Little by little he had lost his ability to trust anyone. Even the most trusted person, Yelli, ended up being a bad person. Even though she was not a spy but it seemed like she had a huge animosity with the royals.
Lumian skinned the jaguar and stored its pelt and meat separately in a huge bag. He glanced up at the kid frowning, thinking about something. At first he thought this kid would be a sheltered plant, but it looks like he is a seasoned one. "Even if you see many people like that, you should not give up hope. There are good people and bad people in this world. I hope you could find the good ones and stay away from the bad ones," he said.
