As the sunlight gleamed in-between the trees, she noticed the hostage prince's tattered back.
'Deric, huh? Poor kid, his own kingdom is treating him like this,' she thought, shaking her head.
Ambai peered at his dark face. A small shimmer originated on his face. 'Hmm, what is that?' she peered at his face carefully.
At the same time, the hostage turned towards her.
Ambai gasped, seeing his forehead. There was a huge black 'One'.
It was the numbers again. But this time it was different, it looked malicious. With dark smoke flowing out of it.
With all the clues she had collected over the months she was here, she discovered that only the spies are the ones with the number on their forehead.
At first it was those five soldiers, they had the numbers from seven to eleven. Then there was Kaden with number Five, and there was also Healer Gaius with number two.
All of them ended up being a spy of Lafta. and in one way or another tried to harm her.
"What are you two still doing here?" A Low growl sounded behind her.
She could recognise this commanding voice even in her sleep. It was her master Huyt.
She slowly turned back and waved at him. "No master. It's because I.... I was on the way to my room and I got lost as well and the crowd.... they led me here. Isn't that right, Zhong?," she said with a fake laugh.
But the stupid guy did not cooperate with her.
She pinched his thigh and whispered, "Isn't that right?"
Imposter Zhong gazed at her with a smile. "Haha, it's just as the prince said. We got lost master," he said.
With a wooden look, Huyt gazed at them both. "You expect me to believe you guys got lost?" He said.
Ambai nodded her head as if pounding ginger.
"You own this palace prince, so you still expect me to believe you got lost?" Huyt said with a sullen look.
"I.. I.. Yeah, master. It's the truth," She whispered.
Their master sighed and held Zhong's shoulder. "You.. Your lying skill can still improve," he said with a fearful smile.
"And you," he pointed at her face and sighed. "Don't even try. You are very bad at lying."
'What? Mister, I'm a compulsive liar. How could you say I have no talent for it ah?' Ambai thought, holding her chest.
"Don't overact, get back to your rooms," He shouted. His spit flew onto their faces.
Ambai wiped it off and gazed at her master's retreating back.
"Zhong, shall we sneak out again? I want to find something out," She whispered.
He gazed at her and smirked in a weird way.
"You are weird, you know that. If it was any other human, they would have stayed away from me. But you... you just like steering trouble with me," he said.
His shimmering eyes dulled as he said that.
Ambai gazed at him straight in the eye. "I don't fear you okay. After all the help you did that day, i owe you my life," she whispered.
His eyes widened a little at her declaration.
"Besides, i know that you are weak in your 'mortal' body. I trust that i can take you down with these fists," She chuckled and held up her clenched fists.
"Hump, believe me, if you have seen my devil form you would not say this," he whispered and walked away.
Ambai pouted. "Hey are you still coming?" she shouted and followed after him.
He stopped and turned back.
"Maybe.. I will bring more rats this time," he said.
Ambai gasped and punched his shoulders. "I knew it; you were that one who released that rat!"
It was during the first time she met this impostor. She had tried to sneak into the imperial hall of records and almost got caught. She managed to escape thanks to a small rat.
'I have to admit that rat was a genius plan. But.. I am scared of them ah.' Her body shuddered uncontrollably at that thought.
He chuckled and whispered, "It did remind me of your sneaky form."
"Hump, don't you dare bring rats this time," she said and glared at him.
He chuckled and said. "No rats I promise."
"Okay then lets go," Ambai hugged his hands and pulled him.
"Where exactly are we going now?" he whispered with a confused look.
She chuckled mysteriously. "Somewhere fun,"
Ten minutes later, both of them hid behind a wooden column and silently observed The King's office.
He pulled her back and whispered. "This is your idea of fun?"
"Yeah, isn't it fun to sneak into King's private workplace hmm," she wiggled her eyebrows.
"You do know that I could get killed if we get caught," he whispered in a somber expression.
"Oh, you don't have to come inside. I want you to stand guard here, and give me a signal if anyone approaches," she whispered.
"Your plan sounds 'REALLY' fun, yeaa," he said with a dull expression.
"Come on dude, be my door man, just this once," she whispered with a wink.
He just looked at her with a weird expression.
"Are you really Erudite?" he whimpered with a skeptical look.
Her heart nearly stopped. 'afshuelas, oh god I'm found out, shit what should I do? What do I do?' she panicked internally.
But externally her face still retained her calm smile. "Have you gone crazy? Why would you even think that? Haha," she said.
But the Devil still peered at her.
Fine droplets of sweat formed on her forehead. 'Shit, shit, shit, should I just run now? God help!!' she internally cried.
"Hmm, you should really work on your lying skill," he whispered.
Ambai gasped at him. 'Darn twice in a day. Is my lying skill rusted? I need to practice more,' she thought to herself.
"Shh, get back," he said and pulled her back behind the column.
His burly stature hid her small body.
"You dad is here, he is with someone. I think it's the Lafta emissary," he whispered close to her ear.
But none of his whispers registered in her brain. Her whole focus was on his scent.
He smelt divine. A subtle scent of grass and something else mixed within.
'A flowery scent, 'sniff' maybe, jasmine, 'sniff' no this is too subtle.' She thought, sniffing him.
"Haha, do i smell good?" a hoarse voice whispered in her ears.
'Shit, did he notice?'
Like a deer caught in a headlight, she clenched her fist and gazed at his smiling face.
She pinched her nose close. "No.. noooo you smell rancid. Did you not take a bath? Darn that's stinky," she whispered.
His smile turned into glare instantly.
"Then don't sniff like that," he growled.
"Hump I won't....." she whispered.
"shh, shh listen," he said and placed his head onto the wall.
The wooden beam behind them vibrated softly.
"Shit, is it an earthquake?"
