Bab 26: Frozencaller Tournament ( 4 )

The sun shined on the cold snow of Skyrim as the new match of the Frozencaller Tournament started.

Ilyana Lorathyra.

A Blood and Ice Magic Master-class Mage.

Using offensive spells as her focus, she wasn't proficient in Defensive or Evasion types of spells.

Against Darfin Calver.

An Ice Magic Master-class Mage.

Using defensive spells as his focus, he was the opposite of his opponent.

As the cold wind blew their respective mage robes, they observed each other.

Just as the public wondered when they would finally start, with a supersonic sound, a reddish ice spear rapidly advanced toward Darfin.

But, he was ready for it.

As it advanced toward him, a transparent barrier appeared around him.

Impacting on the barrier, the ice spear exploded.

It was as if it impacted an ebony wall.

Although he blocked her attack, he frowned deeply.

'... This is...' He thought focusing.

For, when the ice spear exploded, a bloody mist enveloped the platform.

That's right.

If you can't block or evade the enemy's attacks, just make it impossible for them to attack.

Focusing on his barrier, he tried to find her.

He was proud of his barrier.

It was a spell only taught to the Calver's family.

This barrier was the reason Calventus, his family's city was considered impenetrable.

As it wanted to engulf the world, the bloody mist becomes denser and denser.

At the start, it was almost a pinkish color.

But now, it was full reddish mist.

Feeling something impacting on his barrier from behind, he turned around rapidly.

His cyan mage robe blew in the wind as he focused on his fight.

But, as soon he turned around, another impact happened in the direction he was staring at earlier.

Like a cornered mouse, he started to feel various impacts all around him.

He didn't know where, when, and how.

This fight was disadvantageous for him since the start.

The Calver family was the family that never entered the truly front lines on the wars.

They were the Empire's shield.

Not the Empire's sword.

His only hope was that he could tire Ilyana out.

So the situation continued.

It was like a draw.

Darfin couldn't defeat Ilyana but she couldn't defeat him either.

That was what Darfin thought.

But, he started to feel it.

Something was wrong.

He started to hear the low sound of... spiders.

Tilting his head in confusion, the feeling intensified.

Suddenly he saw it.

Something that he never imagined possible.

A crack.

A crack on the perfect spell made by his family.

It shouldn't be possible.

Shooking his head to see if he was hallucinating, he stared at the crack again.

Suddenly, a reddish ice spear impacted directly on the crack.

It penetrated his barrier perfectly.

Finally sensing death upon him, Darfin widened his eyes and was about to surrender.

But, he forgot something.

Something extremely important about the barrier.

It's only weakness.

Focus.

It can't sustain itself, so the person needed to sustain it constantly so it can't collapse.

But, the feeling of death and his surprised seeing the crack made him foolishly careless.

And that was exactly the result Ilyana wanted.

"... I surre-!" Darfin said but before he could finish, a reddish ice sword was already slashing toward his neck.

He couldn't even shout in surprise before his head was sent flying to the air.

As if the whole situation was unbelievable, his eyes remained wide opened and his mouth still open about to shout 'Surrender'.

Before his head could impact the ground.

A female hand's took it mid-air by his hair.

But, something was different about her.

Ilyana earlier cold cyan eyes weren't present.

On their place, four spider-like eyes could be seen on her 'beautiful' face.

Since the reddish mist was covering the platform, the public didn't see the horrifying situation that transpired.

As the mist started to dissipate, they finally could see what was going on.

Ilyana earlier four spider-like eyes were nowhere to be found, only her previous cold cyan eyes.

On her hand, a screaming decapitated head could be seen.

Her reddish dress along with the blood gushing from the head made the scene extremely 'Raw'.

"... The Victory goes for Ilyana Lorathyra!!" The commentator shouted, declaring the victor.

But, strangely, Ilyana didn't leave the platform immediately.

She turned around to Miraak, who was silently watching their match since the beginning and started to walk over to him.

As the gushing blood made a path of blood, she stared at Miraak.

Finally arriving in front of him, she made a beautiful smile.

But, Miraak just tilted in his head in slight confusion.

After all, he didn't know her or her family, what is going on?

Slowly rising the decapitated head, Ilyana continued smiling as she threw it toward Miraak's feet.

Making a splash-like sound as it landed on the ground, the decapitated head stared at Miraak.

But he ignored the head and just pondered.

Suddenly, he slightly frowned.

Because he felt it.

A source of magic that he was already very familiar with.

Daedric Prince's source of magic.

And there was only one Daedric Prince that was in bad terms with him right now.

'... Mephala.' Miraak thought to himself seriously.

"See you at the finals," Ilyana said smirking as she turned around to leave the platform.

Staring at her back, he immediately understood it.

"... Another Mimic Spider Daedra, huh... Annoying bugs..." Miraak said clicking his tongue in annoyance.

'... Looks like the real Ilyana is dead...' He thought shooking his head.

There was no reason to let someone who saw it's real identity alive.

The problem of Mimic Spider Daedra was that they perfectly mimicked the other person.

Appearance.

Personality.

Even a limited amount of the person's skills was possible to mimic.

They were annoying bastards that were almost impossible to differentiate from each other.

Of course, that was for 'normal' people.

As long they were near him, Miraak could use his vast experience with the Daedric Princes' powers to almost immediately know if a person is associated with one of them.

Staring at the now almost disappearing Ilyana, he thought, '... Looks like it doesn't know that I discovered his true identity, huh...'

Standing up to leave the Arena, Miraak clicked his tongue again, annoyed at the situation.

...

As the moon shined on the world, basking it on its light, another night started.

Arriving at the inn and entering his group's room, Room 69, Miraak saw Asa and Iphislia eating a Sweetroll together.

Seeing him so serious and him staring at their Sweetroll, Asa smirked and said, "... Let me guess, someone stole your sweetroll?"

Of course, she was joking, so she soon continued, "... So? What happened?"

Iphislia stopped stuffing her mouth full of Sweetroll and turned to Miraak too.

"... A powerful enemy appeared... It's time for improvements to the training's schedule." Miraak said seriously to the duo.

He wanted to take it slowly but now, with the current situation, he needed to power them up faster.

Powerful enough to kill Mimics alone, that is.

As the moon shined on him, Miraak's eyes glinted as he smirked at how he would 'train' them.
