Bab 8: Training Starts
After dinner, Nejiko told him about everything that happened in the incident. As he was unconscious for three months, he felt as if he met Liam's father just yesterday, and now he was dead, even that little girl and her grandfather were also dead. He felt guilty, he felt as if he was more responsible for their deaths than those pirates, he was the sinner. He had the system which could have made him strong, but he did not use it, why? Just because of little pain and laziness. How laughable.
Luck played a very large part in his mother being alive, What if that pirate did not hate him? What if the pirates weren't hungry? What if Marines were a little late? What if? What if? What if? It was all luck that saved his mother, he just played a small part in it.
Even he was alive because of the system, if there was any other kid he would have long been dead. This was the situation of their town, in this world how many other towns are in similar situations or even worse.
Before this incident, Leo knew the dark side of this world, but now he understood the true meaning of it. Every day many common innocent people are being killed, but very few people cared about it.
He felt as if another chance he was given at his life was just for paying the price for the sins he committed, the sin of not using what he had to save his people. Even though he would never be able to bring back their loved ones, he would create a world for them where they will never have to live in the fear of pirates or anything else, nobody will ever have to go through such tragedy. "I will devote my whole life to it." And he knew he had the ability to do it. Even though the system wasn't easy as in other novels he read but similar to them it had the ability to make him the strongest man in this world.
He only had half of his lifespan to live, but how much was it? He didn't know. "How many years do I have?" He asked the system.
"..." There was no response.
"I guess it's better not knowing. I just have to live as if every day was my last day. I have to use every moment of my life to improve myself." He was determined.
He opened the system. A blue transparent screen appeared in front of him.

[Limitless] - He would get stronger and stronger as more he trained, there was no upper limit. He never experienced this function, so he did not know how it worked.
[Gravity: 1] – This is an ultimate training tool. Leo can change the gravity of the world and this change could only be felt by him. It's as if he is living in a world with changed gravity. Currently, gravity is at [1], which is the normal gravity of this world.
[White Space] – It is a virtual space, where his conscious can enter. Here he can set the opponent's stats before sparring. Opponent which is called 'Ultimate Sparring Partner' by the system has the default appearance same as him, it can be adjusted. The opponent is similar to the emotionless robot made of flesh and bones, it never talks, its only job is sparring and nothing else. Leo can use this function of the system for two hours per day. After the sparring session ends, the white energy, containing the fighting experience will be transferred to his body and mind. This sparring is only in close combat using the body itself as a weapon. According to the system, 'Ultimate Sparring Partner' has godly fighting instincts, and if he is ever able to defeat it on the same power level, then he will be invincible in the close combat in the whole universe.
[Restrictions] – Leo wasn't allowed to change the original plotline of the One Piece intentionally. The system didn't say anything about what will happen if he did, and Leo wasn't very eager to find out. Leo wasn't allowed to use any weapons in the fight and he also cannot use devil fruit.
[World Creation] - [One Piece] – Leo did not understand this function, and the system also did not explain it.
[Earth] – Leo can return to the Earth when the One Piece story ends.
This is the overview of the system.
The next day, town's people came to visit Leo, they congratulated him for getting well.
After helping Nejiko in the tavern in the morning he went out with Bolt.
Both of them were sitting under the Giant Tree. The incident erased innocent childlike features from the Bolt's face, now there was only seriousness and maturity. "You were unconscious for almost three months, how are you feeling?" Bolt asked.
"I feel fine. As I was unconscious for such a long time, it feels like everything happened just yesterday." Leo answered.
"It's the same for me, even now I can't sleep properly, I get nightmares of that incident again and again." Bolt said with a pained expression.
There was a heavy atmosphere between them. "We can't change what happened, but what we can do is to stop from happening such tragedy again. And how can we stop it? By becoming stronger. We have to become stronger." Leo said with a clenched fist, his tone firm and resolute.
"Yes, we have to become stronger. I promise that no one will ever lay hands on our loved ones." He also clenched his fist, his eyes were filled with determination. "Do you want to train with me?"
"Of course, we will train together," Leo answered. "Did you ask others?" Leo was talking about their friend circle.
"Yeah. They said they are always busy working with their family."
"I guess we can't do anything about that."
"Only if Liam was here," Leo murmured to himself, he missed him.
"Yeah. If then he would have trained with us, and also would have taught us about becoming stronger. It's kind of feel off without him." There was a longing in Bolt's eye. "I kind of miss him."
"Same here. I don't know when he will be back," Leo said.
Both of them became silent for a moment.
"You must have already started training. How do you train?"
"I am just doing the stuff Liam used to do, running, pushups, lifting weights, and swinging sword repeatedly." Bolt showed him the wooden club. "As I don't have a sword, I am working with this."
"Let me take a look," Leo asked for the wooden club. He took the club in his hand. "This thing is quite heavy."
"Yeah, I know."
After returning club, Leo thought about how he should train. Whatever the way in he would train he must break past his limits, and only then [Limitless] would activate. On the Earth, Leo was never been an 'Exercising' person, when he searched for the training word in his mind, the first thing that came to his mind was, 'Saitama sensei's Workout: 100 Pushups, 100 Sit-ups, 100 Squats, and a 10 Km run every day.'
For a boy who was two months away from turning six, Saitama sensei's Workout was quite the difficult task. He decided to start with Saitama's Workout, and only when he was able to complete the workout without tiring himself out then he would start using the [Gravity] function of the system.
Both of them started training by running. Bolt was older than Leo by two years and he also started training three months earlier, so he was faster and could run longer than Leo.
As Leo started running, initially it was okay, as he ran further and further he started feeling tired, but he did not stop, he continued. After some time his clothes got soaked with sweat, he was breathing heavily, even then he did not stop. After some more time, his body was screaming at him and his mind was making up reasons to stop him. "It's your first day, take it easy. Take a rest, it's okay, you can do better tomorrow." But he did not fall into their trap. "No. I can't stop. If I can't do this today I will definitely can't do tomorrow." He continued with a firm resolve to get stronger, scenes of the incident were coming to his mind. "No. I can't stop if I want to protect my loved ones." He continued running.
He felt his legs becoming heavier and heavier as if someone was gradually adding weights to them. Slowly his speed became lower and lower, at the end he was running at a snail's pace, finally, he fully exhausted himself and fell to the ground, he was almost on the verge of losing consciousness. He didn't know if he break past his limits, so he decided to crawl. But just then system's mechanical voice rang into his mind.
