It is the first day, the suns are still blazing high in the sky with students, servants, and relatives doing the duty of bidding farewell to students they may never see again.

This is the way of the empire.

War can happen at any moment, even though the army is vast and technology is well developed it has been ingrained deep within the bones of the humans that they must always be prepared. 

The inter-school battle is simply a formality to see which student is worth nurturing in which way. To the empire, all students who join this battle are worth nurturing because they have the courage, the will, to fight for their homeland and prove their worth.
