Concubine Alphina; looked up at the man she loved, for so long, they had shared a bed, for so many nights, bore two children: the eldest son and the youngest daughter. Was she not at least worth something in his eyes?

Even if she offended someone, was not the one she had offended simply not a lowly adopted daughter appearing from nowhere?!

So long… So long she had longed for this man. Why could he not look at her at least once, why could he not look at her as he did that woman who sat by his side?

She clenched her fist, Alphina hated, she hated so deep; she hated with every fiber of her being this woman, for taking her man from her grasp. For causing the death of her one true love.

The tears pooled in her eyes, threatened to fall; they blurred her vision, blinding her temporarily. What right did this woman have?
