Bab 46: Chapter 46: Unexpected Ally

She could have knocked me over with the tip of that flickering tongue. Instead of the careful, controlled response I had planned, I stuttered a moment before she thumped her tail on the ground and silenced me. Lilith had never really had my side until the end of my time here. She'd treated me like a mistake, just like Corvus in Dad's realm. And much as everyone else did, though it was she who stood up and helped me when I needed help the most. And so I listened when she spoke again, and relented under the hot anger of her gaze.

But again I was surprised to find the one who spoke to me didn't aim her fury in my direction. Instead, Lilith hissed softly, her fangs shining as she bared them in frustration.
