"And so," the judge called out, "this is what I hear. Simon Ferry, you were forced to engage in Memory Theft at the whim of Morpheus Rose, and you complied for self-preservation. Your wife's death was accidental, as this Morpheus Rose pushed her in front of him in order to avoid the shot you fired at him."

"That is what I believe," Simon agreed, lowering his head.

"That's what my memories tell me," Lysandra said.

"Lysandra Ferry," the judge continued, "your murder of this man, Morpheus Rose, was in self-defense?"

"Yes," Lysandra answered, "but not only self-defense. I was also defending Cale."

"Cale Ainsworth?" the judge asked, his eyes flicking over to Cale, who sat somewhere behind her. "Is this true?"

Cale nodded. "Rose threatened Lysandra first with the rifle he had on him, and then me."

"I see." The judge looked down. "Are there any other witnesses who would be able to testify?"

"No, sir," Lysandra said. "We were the only three people in the room."
