Walking out, Fei suddenly stopped in place turned towards a particular column in the hall.
"Is there something wrong, master?"
Visibly shocked, Carlos stepped out from behind the column.
One might ask, why was he hiding there?
Actually, right after Carlos left the living room, he realized that Fei hadn't gone with him. With a pout, he decided to return to the place and remind her that she was his bodyguard and needed to be with him at all times.
However, as he approached, he heard his sister's loud and sharp voice. He had never heard such harshness in her tone nor her words ever before.
It intimidated him, and he could not bring up the courage to go in and save Fei from the distress she was experiencing.
The young boy knew that even he felt immense pain from hearing those words his sister had said, so how could Fei not feel anything?
As such, he decided to wait for Fei outside. He planned to surprise her with his presence, hoping that by doing so, he would be making her feel better.
But Carlos never thought that she would be able to find him effortlessly. Cursing himself, he realized that he had forgotten that Fei was different and had superpowers.
Looking at his bodyguard's sad smile, he felt his own heart breaking into a million pieces. He wanted to comfort her, somehow.
Biting his lip, the boy finally said, "Nothing's wrong." He shook his head while holding out his hand.
"I just wanted to play with you today." He tried to smile as wide as he could. "I want to draw your portrait."
As Fei's expression began to change into one of pleasant surprise, Carlos knew that he had succeeded.
"What about Marcus?"
"Umm… Well, I changed my mind. I wanted to draw portraits, but he was too ugly and unfit to be my model. I want you to be my model. Fei is so pretty." *
Fei lifted the corners of her lips, her eyes turning into half-moons. "Okay."
Carlos nodded, walking forward with his hand intertwined with hers. He swung his arms.
In truth, he did not plan to draw, nor was Marcus as ugly as he said he was.
He just wanted to spend some time with Fei. He found that he hadn't spent much time with her these days that Eyrie was out.
Although it was because Fei was simply not that fun to play with, it still wasn't right, considering that the two were friends.
Best friends, actually.
But the thing is, the conclusion 'Fei was simply not that fun to play with' was developed pretty soon.
Reason one: she was dense and didn't know how to lie.
One time, Carlos, Fei, Carol, and Eyrie were playing hide-and-seek.
Carol turned out to be the one that would look for the others, and she quickly found Fei. Fei hadn't bothered to hide; she felt it was pretty pointless despite it being a game.
After catching Fei, Carol interrogated her, asking where the others were hiding. She knew that the mutant could easily find where the others were by their distinct breathing and steps.
Before the game began, Carlos and Eyrie repeatedly told Fei never to say to the person that would be searching for the others where the others were hiding.
Abiding by their words, Fei indeed did not directly tell Carol. However, she still gave away their positions.
In the room that Carol had to stay in, blindfolded for 30 seconds, Carlos had been hiding in a cabinet. He had wanted to use reverse psychology to fool Carol, since the area that the game took place in encompassed the entirety of the estate. He thought to himself; Carol will never find me!
The young boy never thought that, in reality, he would be the first person to be found.
While Carol was interrogating her, Fei had kept looking at the cabinet that her master was hiding in. She had been praying for him, hoping that some existence would bless her master so that he would win the game.
However, Carol had followed the mutant's gaze to the cabinet and determined at once that this was where her little brother was hiding.
With a bang, she flung open the cabinet doors, catching a boy that was still grinning with evilness at his 'awesome' plan.
That was a terrible memory for Carlos.
Reason two for why 'Fei was simply not that fun to play with': She was too conservative.
It was on a sunny day, around the beginning of December. The weather was chilly, but Carlos had been excited to swim in the pool that was on the open roof of the mansion.
He was usually not allowed to go there, but for the first time in third grade, he passed his math test.
To encourage his son, Mr. Rochester had allowed him to go to the pool.
Carlos hadn't swum in that pool for months; the last time he did so was a few days before his birthday. As such, he was very excited despite the cold.
In addition, the roof had heaters, and the water temperature could be adjusted with the touch of a button, making the young boy care even less about the weather. He also wished it would snow while he was there; it would be so cool!
With his heart in his mouth, the young master of the Rochester household had been ready to leap into the water with his swim shorts on.
But he was stopped by Fei.
When Carlos looked back with question marks written over his face, the bodyguard met his eyes in seriousness.
"Master, the water temperature is too high. Since the temperature is high, it will enlarge the blood veins and change the blood cycle. For people who have not had children, the temperature has bad effects on male sperm and may influence fertility."
Utterly oblivious to her master's incomprehension, she continued. "In addition, what you are wearing now is too little. Master, you should find a more conservative swimsuit. If a stranger spots you from the streets below, how will you face your future wife?"
"…" My swimsuit is perfectly normal, okay?! Do you think everyone has as good of a vision as you do? Was what the young boy wanted to say, but he stopped himself, only pursing his lips.
After that day, despite his internal turmoil, Carlos never asked to go to the pool again in the wintertime.
* Just accept it as he is very straightforward. Don't talk like this in real life, or you might risk hurting someone's feelings.
