Bab 88: Chapter 83
The blinding, golden light pierced through their veins as a warm, comforting pillow-like pacifier. Joy felt something on her heart- a feeling of ease and love- and she opened her eyes and saw that the light has been reduced to golden ashes that glowed against the setting sun and magnificently surrounded the both of them. Just then, the golden ashes touched her skin and dress, as her hair turned silver. She wasn't afraid anymore; and the feeling of sadness, lonelines and pain has been erased from her entire being and it was replaced by a person's love and care that rippled through her skin.
Suddenly, the light came to her at a faster pace and their glowing hurt her head so much that she crouched to herself, trying to ease the pain but it was too great that she couldn't withstand it. She screamed, but no one seemed to be able to hear her- and she felt her surroundings spinning and it carried her away. She felt like flying while being toyed with the lights. She wished it to stop. She wished it to be over because it was too painful for her...
She wished and the light approved.
She opened her eyes slowly the moment she felt that it was over- but she realized that she was in front of their school. She entered their gate and saw Mari and Nick walking together she approached them.
"Mari! Nick! I'm so relieved to see you!" she said and went to them with open arms, ready to surrender in their arms.
But as soon as she was near them, she realized that they can't see her and they just get past her body- without touching. She freaked out and her body shivered again- but she looked up and saw a person trying to jump from the rooftop of their school. With a sense of urgency, she ran so fast with a blistering face. She tripped on the stairs but she didn't mind at all even if she came across some of the students because she knew she won't be able to hurt them. All she had in her mind was to stop the person in the building from jumping because she had been there before and seeing someone in the same state as her was terrifying. As she ran, some golden ashes escaped from her body and she went faster and faster until she reached the door. She went past it- but the sun's rays hurt her eyes that she momentarily stopped.
"Don't do it!" She screamed and held her hand out to the person- she tried to open her eyes- and upon success, her eyes widened at the sight. She fell on her knees and started crying.
She saw herself in front of her searching for the man- but the person appeared when she looked back and the Joy in front of her was startled.
"Hope Joy Montefalco also known as Joy. 17 years old from class 12-3."
Joy stood up and went closer. She walked at their sides and she entered her own body that was talking in front of her to see how it would look like in her point of view. When she walked into her body, she noticed that everything was coming back to her mind- the atmosphere, the sun setting- the scent- and who the man was.
"I am Light Elkin and I was tasked to deliver you a message from above." The man had gray hair and silver eyes. His skin was pale and it looked like porcelain against the sun. His hair looked so soft and beautiful but he has a cold aura going on around him and she felt that the Joy was frightened.
"From above?" Joy asked.
"Yes. The deities heard you and have tasked you to do your very goal. You have to save everyone." Light said.
"From above?"Yes. The deities heard you and have tasked you to do your very goal. You have to save everyone." He said. "Wear this necklace and never take it off. If someone around is thinking of ending his life, that necklace will glow and will lead us to where the person in need is." He added as he put the necklace on her neck. The necklace was circle with a transparent heart shape on the center and was wrapped with chains. It was pretty that Joy admired it but the other Joy was too startled because it looked like Yvan's and Bright and Brennan's except that it was pure white.
She remembered everything that happened in that day- even how she wrote everything in her diary. She was like walking on a distant dream and while watching everything that happened that day. She felt her heart race. However, as she was about to be at ease, the golden lights that became instilled in her body escaped again and headache lurked into her, realizing that she was travelling again and when she opened her eyes, she saw that she was at their room while their math teacher was having a lecture. She looked at the supposedly empty seat beside her and saw that the person was there. And she remembered how he fearlessly answered the question of their teacher and became exempted in everything on that class. A person suddenly came dashing from their window and she followed the person which she believed as her senior, Corriene- and she trasported again and saw how Light rescued the person. Memories of saving Mari flooded into her mind- as well as Fallon and Cammy, whom they weren't able to save. She remembered Ajan, Ren and the others that used to be their mission as she spun on the air. She basically remembered everything- from their first meeting to how they fell in love with each other.
The lights transported her to the beach again and as she thought that she was about to be reunited with Bright and Brennan, she realized that the memory she saw a while ago in their house was happening in front of her- with her leaning on him as they held each other's hands- then everything came back to her- how he vanished, how he forgot her- like what happened with Yvan and she couldn't accept that she forgot about him. She was mad at herself for not remembering and for not searching Light. She burst into tears and went running to her unconscious body by the sand and tried to search for the broken necklace.
"My beloved." a voice spoke- and Joy opened her eyes to see that she was back with the ashes of gold escaping her body. She looked at Bright whose eyes turned into gold- and his hair became silver as well- the features of Light. He smiled at her as he held her hands. "How have you been?"
"Why? How can you be so concerned with other people at times like this?!" Joy screamed as Light's voice escaped from Bright's body. He chuckled.
"I missed you."
"Damn you. How could you act like that?!" Joy said and hit him in his chest big time that he screamed in pain and Joy apologized to him as if she committed a great sin. "Sorry..."
Just then, Light pulled her into a hug and Joy no longer fought nor struggled because she missed his warm hug and it made her relax like nothing was wrong. "I missed you too." she said and hugged him back.
"I see that you haven't been well since I disappeared." Light told her and squeezed her tightly. "Jeez I thought you'd be happy."
"Did the heavens made you stupid? How could I be happy without you?" Joy cried.
"I guess so." he chuckled and kissed her forehead. "I've been well."
"That's great because I've been worse." Joy said and laughed at herself for sulking. "Where'd you go after you disappeared?"
"In you heart." Light replied and laughed lightly. "I came back to where I was from."
"Was it happy there?" Joy asked and settled on his chest.
"It was. Everyday's a happy day but I was happier when I was with you..." Light teased and chuckled again.
"You've become cheerful. That's great."
"Do you prefer the cold Light?" he asked in a cold manner and Joy looked up to him but she saw Bright's face instead. "Oh, I can't stay on earth with my body. And Bright's our communicating vessel. Sorry about that."
"It's okay as long as it's you. But what do you mean? Are you saying that I still can't be with you? That you'd go back to the heavens?" Joy asked.
"Yes, that's true but not heavens. It was the Happy Ville." Light replied.
"How do I go there?" She asked and Light laughed at her.
"You can't do that, unfortunately. Only chosens are allowed." he replied.
"So how can I be with you?" Joy asked him with tears in her eyes.
"We can no longer be together, Hope." Light said with a serious expression in his face. "We can't.."
"Why?"
"because because." Light said and pulled out from the hug as Joy tried to keep him close. However, he pushed her away and all the light came to her like falling stars, forming the black necklace she had before. "Hope, don't try to find me. It would be such a waste."
"Why are you doing this to me?! You are so unfair!"
"I am being fair. That heavens already gave me a lifetime with you so who am I to ask for more? Trust me. I want to be with you that I kept thinking of you even if I was on a place where I am supposed to be happy. Being away from you for so long is broke me." Light said and hugged her again. "So don't you think like that. Someday, maybe we can be together."
"Can we not stay like this all the time?" Joy asked him and she burried her head on his chest.
"I wish we could. But you can think of me as a dead person." Light chuckled and pet her head.
"Shut up." Joy said, but Bright's body started to shake and he held his head because of pain. "What's happening?"
"My time is limited." Light said and screamed because of pain and the golden Light was slowly becoming blue again. "You promised me that you'll be happy so live with that promise because I'll watch you everyday as I sit in heaven. I love you. Okay? I love you Hope."
"Don't go... Please don't g-" Joy said and hugged him but he let out another grunt because his pain was too much. Just then, the gold light dimmed and vanished into thin air as the Bright's necklace turned blue which signified that he was back.
The light faded until it disappeared.
"I'm sorry Joy, hosting like that is too painful for me." Bright said and coughed with blood. "I'm sorry I couldn't endure it."
"It's okay. It's okay no worries." Joy said and hugged Bright whose hair turned blue and his eyes were normal again. He collapsed at her arms and Brennan came rushing towards them from the water.
"Are you okay Hope?" He asked her as he checked Bright- who was sleeping.
"I am..." She said and looked at him. "I should erase your nemories about this."
"No, it's okay." Brennan said. "I'm aware that I'd forget him after the mission and it's true that the possibility of me facing the same fate as you is great but you don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine."
"If that is what you want." Joy said and stood up as her black necklace caught the attention of Brennan.
"That's the same as Yvan's... It's terrifying." Brennan said and looked at his dirty white necklace.
"Let's go take him to the nearest clinic." Joy said and Brennan carried him in his back. "Nathan's clinic is near here and it wouldn't take us hours to get there. Let's hurry up."
They ran as fast as they could because Bright was grunting with pain until they reached the clinic. Nathan was studying on the reception desk as Joy opened the door hastily, and with a sense of urgency, Nick ran to fetch his father who was sipping his coffee with his favorite mug.
"What happened?" Nathan said as his father ran behind him.
"He collapsed." Joy said as she was about to leave. "Brennan, can I leave all things to your care?"
"Wait. You should let them tend your bruises." Brennan said and held her arms.
"It's okay I'm okay. Thank you Brennan. Take care."
