Bab 20: Magic World Part 3 Hunters are just cannon fodder.

Max traveled in the forest at high speeds. Going deeper did work for finding better stuff. A lot of magical plants were found. As well as a few magical ores to make weapons. But nothing is highly concentrated in clusters. Only scattered about, collecting them as quickly as possible to get back.

But he did remember to keep just practicing his movement really.

His cultivation blended better than normal. The others kept working as needed with a quick check through a spell. Which strengthened the contracts he had with them. Which allowed Max to focus more on self-improvement later down the road.

If they started to slack off, he would have to look harder for others to form contracts with.

"Hmm?" Max stopped. Taking stock of his surroundings. 'Oh, they are going to make their move now. How fun.' His gaze turned predatory as he crouched low to the ground. Several spell formations on the ground were ready to be used to help assist.

The time spent movement gathering materials was used to set that up as well. It would be stupid to try to solve this with physical might considering he had know idea what they had ready trap-wise.

It was the perfect time to try some things as well.

"Do it now." The leader in the group ordered. A signal spell went out flying towards Max at high speeds. The signal then exploded into bright light. It was meant to disorient and blind. 'This is an easy capture. It has to be tired after all of that moving about.'

Max closed his eyes, a small ripple of magic played under his eyelids. They were already recovered to a decent level from his body's work, but a little nudge away could help more.

The light only blinded for 1.23 seconds. His eyes as well as most of those in his group would be fine against a spell like this. Hell, even lighting flashes barely itched.

The light from the spell was dissolved and used to strengthen his nerves. It was a foreign spell after all. The attacking group would probably cry if they found out they made Max stronger slightly.

Two melee hunters moved up. A pair of nets that contained a yellow substance was glowing from certain areas. With a toss, they were already moving back out of the way. Not wanting to risk a counterattack against an unknown creature.

"Grrr." Max growled playfully feeling the nets land on him. It tightened around the body as he started to stretch and pull against it. He rolled around on the ground getting a feel for it. As well as luring the hunters into a false sense of security. 'Hmm very strong. About the level of refined Titanium. Hmm, almost a shame to break it really. But this yellow stuff is a problem.'

*Sizzle!* The yellow liquid burned against him. Parts of his flesh turned slightly numb. Circulating his magic, Max pulled it into his body. Refining it for future use.

"Hit it with the tranks to be sure!" The leader called out. Three hunters fired with crossbows. On the tip, about an inch of glass with the yellow toxin in it. Seeing each one sink into Max and him stop struggling, the leader calmed down a little. "Ahhh glad it overworked itself."

"Where is all the stuff it gathered?" A hunter asked as he moved close up. Having tracked Max for a while, they took note of the different bits of material he gathered. Pulling out a cable, he went to wrap it around Max's arms. "Huh?" The hunter paused seeing Max's tail stretch out of an opening.

*Schlick!* With a fierce cut, the hunter's throat was sliced completely open. His blood follows a pattern in the air. A part of the ground lit up as all the magic inside was devoured from inside the hunter in an instant.

"Raaaaawwwrr!" Max stopped playing sleep and roared. Stunning each of the hunters. His body pushed against the nets ripping himself free. Yellow mist burned around his body as he finished refining the toxin a little. "Delicious.. thank you."

"It talked!" A hunter said very afraid. His fear freed him from the roar but his body was still not responding to his will. The look in Max's eyes scared him. Let alone the death of his friend. "A sentient Magical Beast!"

"Worth a fortune!" Another cried. Money was the only thing on his mind now. "Use the.." A quick flash passed by his body. A clean cut sent the head flying about. Free from the body. "..flash spells.."

The head landed on the ground blinking once at its body that stood standing still. The formation finished spinning on the ground, each of the hunters were spellbound for a few moments.

Max moved about killing them cleanly and quickly. The area distorted with the class of magic the hunters tried to use to retaliate. Somehow they had time magic. Or a small version like it.

'Well the magic that has always been denied to me for Millenia is right here in front of me, wonder how much I can learn from this?' Taking a moment to cipher through one of the corpses was enough to bring a smile. In a flash, Max went back to killing the hunters that were further away as support. 'The best way to obtain knowledge is through the mind!'

The screams in the forest were drowned out easily by the vast wilderness.

Returning Back-

.

As Max made it back to the house, he stared at the changes to the outside. Namely the lawn decorations. Someone made lawn ornaments. They were well done so he left them be. But the color change to the shutters had to go.

A quick spell and they reverted to a light blue from neon green. The spell carried onto the rest of the place fixing things as needed. It was his home after all. Most inside were just guests.

Evangeline floated over on a broomstick of all things from up high. A frown on her face from the color changes he made.

"The light blue is so... male." Evangeline groaned out.

"Make your own place and turn it whatever color you want." Max responded back. "How did things go while I was away?" The two started walking inside speaking amongst each other.

"All good. Those magical copies you made were really hands-on in teaching. Correcting and pointing out any flaws. Mind teaching me the spell?" The look Max gave her answered her question. He would not for various reasons. "Stingy. I have my own version anyway. Just need to fine-tune it some more."

"That is good. How many issues have you come across with spell concentration with them?"

"Quite a few actually. The magic in the air is so abundant even with the filters in place. It took some fine-tuning to fix it up right." Evangeline tapped her chin as they moved to another area. "Oh, we took the furniture out of storage in the back. A bit of exploring the others did pretty detailed actually, they found a few things."

"How nice for you." Max stopped in the first main room. "As long as it is not from the do not open room, it is all fine." But that was not to be. A few of them lazed about sloppy. A few snacks are all over the place. Mana and Kaede were well kept. But the others... were very much like teenagers. "Ok, so.. like you have two minutes to clean this up. Is that.. grape soda.. on my couch?"

A vein throbbed on Max's forehead. The couch was not his. It was something he was watching for another Champion from a different Pantheon. The furniture was in that room because it could not be put in inventory for long.

As well as a bunch of other stuff he had in possession.

"Clean it up now dammit!" He barked seeing the mess. "The room seal had every language written on it that I know. How could you think it was a good idea to use it!?"

They went to work moving about cleaning up. Kaede and Mana moved to be in front of him to explain what happened.

"We didn't see a sign." Kaede said sheepishly. "And the seal was already opened by Kytten. So... not our fault entirely." She looked to her partner in crime for help.

"Right.. it is just a little soda. What is the worst that can happen?" Mana looks bemused.

"Well simple..." Max waved his hand. A bell appeared that started to ring a little. The furniture started to shake as eyes appeared as well as mouths. ".. explain to him why he has a purple stain."

"The furniture is alive..." Yuna stopped with a bunch of bags in her hand. Mouth hanging open as a lamp jumped about. Asuna knocked it over by accident earlier. Now that she was thinking about it, it was surprising the bulb didn't break. 'I wonder if that would break the mind or something?'

"I say there.. where is Max?" The lazyboy walked over to the group of them. More of a wobble really. It's one eye looking each of the females over before stopping on the only male. "Hmmm."

"Yeah, it's me, Larry. Do not say anything pass a category 1 situation." The lazyboy nodded. Almost causing the cushion to fall out. "I have know idea when Pretor plans on picking you all up. Or when he plans to release the seal."

"Oh dear." The lamp hopped over. The cover was slightly skewed from the fall earlier. "I feel a bit lightheaded. Can you check me out please?" The voice was feminine in a way. The only bit of the furniture that was really.

"Of course Samantha." Max went to work.

*Bwoom, bwoom!* Two magical currents wrapped the lamp up. The cover fixed itself as well as a small crack at the base.

"Much better." Samantha hopped away.

"Living furniture... Really in a magical world." Sayo murmured. It still felt so surreal to her. "..that we caused damage to at that." She looked around for Kytten. The cat familiar was asleep on the mantle place.

After cleaning up, they surrounded the cat. Ready to grab hold and make it pay for getting them in trouble. Feeling the threatening presence, Kytten woke up. A curious look as it looked over them each with one eye.

"Meow?"

"You got us in trouble furball!" Asuna tried to grab it first. Kytten expertly jumped away. Jumping off her face and landing on Yuna's head. "Grab him Yuna!" Yuna tried to but it cartwheeled away.

"Of all the things!" Sayo was surprised to see the technique. "Like a trapeze artist. Or gymnast."

Things turned into a scramble as they went after the familiar. Energized with anger, Kytten was smart enough not to go toward its master Max. From the connection, the young Familiar realized it messed up.

It leads them out of the main room into the hall. Leaving Max, Evangeline, and Shizuna. Sister Shakti walked over after her charges were tucked away.

"How did the hunt go?" Shizuna asked.

"Well enough. Ran into a few hunters but it was nothing of note. Have some info and some ingredients to really test some things. Even found some ruins deep inside to go and visit. But that is for later. Need to rest up then make a few items."

"Oh, can I assist?" Sister Shakti asked hopefully. Shizuna next to her wanted to do the same. "Please!"

"I do not see why not. But it will be quite gross." Max shrugged not caring either way. There was some spare material to let them play around with later. "Just make sure nothing is in your stomachs when we start tomorrow. I will definitely kick you out of the room if you puke."

"Ummm it can not be that bad." Shizuna stated simply. But then she thought about the fact it was a magical dissection. Her inner teacher wanted to witness it even more so. Her eyes were ablaze in intrigue. "I am looking forward to it."

"Me as well." Sister Shakti added in.

"I want to take the others to a place I once visited. Slightly dangerous but they should be ok." Evangeline stated. "Think we will leave around noon in two days."

"Enough time for them to pick up some more training." Max watched as the magical copies of himself appeared. They dissolved passing a little magic back over to him. As well as a better understanding of the magic in the area. "Hmmm, need to place outer wards in the outside area to collect some of this rampant magic. Definitely will go a long way for some plans."

"Oh, before I forget, about the Gargoyles." Evangeline grabbed Max as he was about to move away. "Are they alive as well?"

"Yeah. Not the same as the furniture mind you. They are golems given life. Good protectors, I have for certain places." Max stated simply. The look on their faces begged for more info. "Yes, I am their creator. I literally gave my life force to make them. SO technically..."

"They are your kids!" Sister Shakti shouted. Out of them all, she was the most interested in the creatures. "I wanna learn that magic!"

"Uh huh." Max thought it odd but left it alone for now. "We will see. Besides, it is high-level magic. You need to pass a few tests before I can teach that to you. Takes years for most."

Max would be surprised how much would happen this trip.
