Bab 117: The Gift of Akn

Lucian wasn't sure how he knew what the blue-skinned demon before him was, how he knew it was the "Mal'arath Primogen", or why on earth the words "God of Slaughter" echoed in his mind.

It was only after a second or two's pause that the memories of that other life became clear. That's what he was called in that life. The Mal'arath.

"Was that… was that me, or you?" His words didn't make much sense, but the demon seemed to understand.

In a deep voice and a strange accent, it spoke.

"Luka Varren was you. The choices were yours. But the story was not."

"Story…" For whatever reason, even the pointed teeth and tongue of the demon didn't frighten him. Everything about the man's appearance seemed so familiar that his own pale skin and dull nails seemed the more unusual set of features.

"Then, was it real? The life of Luka Varren, did it happen?"
