Bab 9: The Brother's Marriage
Back in the Kashyapa Clan in a beautiful green courtyard filled with trees, three young men were sitting surrounding a stone table, near a stream. It was peaceful atmosphere there, even the sound of stream and birds on the tree can be heard. But on the table was a 'Karpasika Pata'. This was from the King of Kingdom of Prastha about their princess marriage to Prince Shantanu.
The three young men sitting were Prince Shantanu, Prince Vinetra and their friend Vijanat. When Prince Shantanu heard this news he was shocked, he remembered the letter his father left for him, he had read about this matter before but that time he was already lost in many emotions so he didn't think much about the matter that time, he not even cared to read that line after that.
He had never seen Princess Pritha before or even if he had, he had never noticed her so the first thought came into his mind was to outright reject this engagement but the engagement being set up by his royal father so he had to accept it as a wish of his father.
"Elder brother you cannot reject this engagement, even if Prastha is a small kingdom but its royal family is still a side branch of Addi Clan and even you know that the present King was a saviour of his majesty."
A tense faced Vijanat said, he was fearful of this crown prince rejecting the engagement and creating a rift between two ancient clans when they're already going through troubled times. Addi Clan was most closest to them both in distance and in the heart.
After thinking something, he asked with a curious face,
"Elder Brother have you heard of Addi Crown Prince Suradvis? According to my father, he's also on conquest just like you ."
"Hmm. I have heard about him. But why do you ask? You think he'll come to fight and defeat me?" A slightly smiling face replied to him.
"No no elder brother, how can anyone defeat you in younger generation. Even in older generation there are not many people left on the mortal plane who can win against you."
Like a broken spring doll he shook his rapidly while clarifying himself.
""Hahaha."" Two laughing voices echoed in the courtyard.
"The wisest man among our generation will not say anything without reason. Let us hear, what you want to say."
"Umm… I have heard he also have a sister, elder brother I'm just suggesting why don't you marry her too. If our Clan and Addi Clan both formed a family relationship, it would be hugely beneficial for our Clan." The voice was full of hesitation, he didn't knew how the crown prince will react to his suggestion.
"I'm already marrying one of the Addi Princess. Then why I need to marry a second one too? Isn't just marrying Princess Pritha will make both the Clans as close as families?"
"No elder brother, the one you're marrying is princess of a side branch. I think if we go through a big crisis like war with another ancient or great clan, the main branch will not come to help us, at best they'll let the princess' branch help us and at worst they'll even refrain the princess' branch to help us."
"So you want to me to marry her for this?" The crown prince laughed then,
"Hm.. but why do I have to marry her? There is other prince in our clan too. What do you think brother, want to marry that Addi Princess?"
""What?"" two resonating voices were heard and two mouth jaw dropped open.
"What? Brother Vijanat do you think my brother is not worthy of that princess?" a stern face questioned.
"No royal brother, it's not brother Vijanat. But I don't think anyone want to marry me considering my.."
"What are you talking about? You're in every way capable of being a true mighty righteous king. You don't have to worry about anything, just tell me if you want to marry her or not?" With a straight face he asked expecting a clear answer.
"But royal brother…." Before he can he complete he was interrupted.
"Just tell me you want to marry her or not." Without giving him a chance to think about, the crown prince asked again.
"Brother Vijanat, don't you think so too?"
"Royal brother, it's not just about myself agreeing to marry her will make her marry me. She also needs to agree for this and considering my blindness, I don't think anyone in Addi Clan will agree."
"You don't have to worry about that, I'll be going to Addi Clan soon, after hearing all the victory tales of their crown prince even I want to meet him now, then there I'll ask her sister's hand for marriage for you."
"Elder brother you should consult to forefather about this first before deciding anything."
"I don't think forefather will reject this Proposal after all it is for our clan. Brother doesn't worry, I'm not going to marry before your marriage."
