'It's not like I didn't notice that Mashima had been looking out for me. But, I didn't understand the reasoning behind it. Mashima clearly disliked me.'

Mashima turned to him. "You're not attached to Nagawa Kanade are you?"

Sano blinked. "Why?"

"Before I leave the organisation, she is one of the lose ends I want to deal with. If you're attached to her it would be an issue."

"Why though?"

Toh sighs deeply. "I've always wondered if you two had anything in common and now I see it. You're both oblivious."

Sano frowned. "I don't understand."

"It's simply really. If I do anything that upsets you, Sumire will be upset too and I don't want that."
