He had only died in the later stages of the game, so he believed that Alice was safe, but there was another concern for him.

He had realized that the future was changing and anything was possible. If he could, he would never let Alice play divinity, but Janus was forcing him not to interfere. Janus had assured him that she was going to be safe, and he believed it.
